Every term at Cardinal Vaughan is full of moments that inspire We have also had moments of reflection and deep sadness this term. A few weeks ago, our community came together after the passing of our pupil William Blake. When I shared that news, we were inundated with messages of support from parents, pupils, and alumni We hope that William’s family find comfort in knowing the Vaughan community is, and always will be, there for one another
The school play last week is another sign of what sets the Vaughan apart I often say this at our new pupils’ welcome events you are ‘one of us now’ - and that really is the case The Vaughan end of year production of Beauty and the Beast was a moment where pupils, teachers and support staff came together to produce three consecutive nights of stellar music and drama which would rival any West End production The performances, music and stage production were, quite simply, astounding Ultimately what struck me most was during the speeches at the end when I could see our Sixth Form cast and crew cheering and supporting our younger pupils from the Lower School It was clear, after weeks of rehearsals, that these pupils had formed an unbreakable bond
Throughout the Termly Review you will see the richness of the first-class Catholic education we deliver, from community events to great academic success Immersive school trips with pupils visiting Wimbledon or heading to South Korea The Schola Cantorum performing live on ITV with Malakai Bayoh The success of our First XI football team Pupils building an electric motor car The Eco Club for reminding us daily on the importance of sustainability Leading TV executive Jimmy Mulville taking part in careers events to inspire the next generation The breadth and depth of the pupil experience is enough to stop you in your tracks
At a time when there are significant challenges on state education, we continue to create as many opportunities as we possibly can for our pupils Thank you once again all for your support I wish you a restful and peaceful summer break and we look forward to welcoming you back next term.

"The Vaughan has made a huge impression on my life Most importantly, its commitment to Classics has allowed me to study Latin ALevel The dedication to mastery of academic disciplines is what makes it so extraordinary Earlier this year I received an offer from Oxford University to study Classics alongside an organ scholarship I could not have achieved this without the Vaughan "

Ms Drury, Head of Drama, has written an article for Saint John Southworth Teaching and Learning Digest (SJS T&L Digest) discussing how Drama is an important part of the curriculum and has many positive impacts on pupils, particularly boys She says: "While other schools shelve their drama departments, Cardinal Vaughan created one " We know the value added to having Drama on the curriculum, so we have included it as an option at GCSE for our pupils, and the uptake has been steadily increasing
It has been an exciting year for drama in the school, not least of all because of the growing popularity in take up for the subject at GCSE We also saw tremendous success of our recent Fourth Form devised theatre performances, inspired by the work of their chosen practitioner, midcentury German visionary Bertolt Brecht Extra-curricular Lower School clubs and enrichment opportunities have increased and improved And Ms O'Connell's annual school production was, as ever, spectacular
