Video games, cartoons and comic books all use 3-D design to create depth and texture. In this class students will learn how to create backgrounds and characters that will want to jump off the page. Students will also explore pix-elated design and create characters like those in "Mine Craft" and "Pixels." All materials will be provided by the instructor.

Back to school is in full swing as we present a bountiful selection of drawings that introduces our students to a fascinating world of color, pattern, and design. We say farewell to summer in our detailed still life drawing of a beach. We explore color usage and composition in our chameleon and fire truck drawings. In keeping with the season, our stylized fall leaves drawing challenges our technique and color scheme. Our students will learn cultural themes and cartoons as they draw and color Kawaii inspired art. All this and more awaits your child in a Young Rembrandts classroom!

PASTEL DRAWING-EVEN MORE MAGNIFICENT MASTERS

This Young Rembrandts? Pastel Art workshop will focus on five different artists. Each day, we will create a large, original pastel drawing replicating a famous artist’s masterpiece. We will draw a colorful goldfish bowl as Henri Matisse did in his Goldfish painting. On day two, we will recreate Vincent Van Gogh’s famous Starry Night complete with swirls throughout the sky. On day three, we will create powerful still life full of robust color as Paul Cezanne did often in his paintings. Day four will find us drawing Andre Derain’s Portrait of Matisse. On the final day, we will draw as Thiebald did for his Cake Paintings. Each day will challenge us with the pastel media. But in the end we will be Masters ourselves. You will want the drawings framed! No experience necessary. Please wear an old shirt or smock to class each day.

PRESCHOOL LITTLE ARTIST!

Young Rembrandts classes will challenge and excite your budding artist while prepare your child as a lifelong learner. Drawings like the marbles will help your preschooler master the art of creating a circle, a deceptively simple yet complex shape. The acorn & apple tree drawing will strengthen your child’s compositional skills and use of colors.

Basic facial and figure drawing will also be addressed as our students learn to draw a funny clown and scarecrow. These are just a few of the many great lessons our students will learn. DANCE BABY BALLET (PARENT/CHILD)

Baby ballet encourages self-expression and fun! Children learn to respond to music, improve balance and agility, and express their feelings through dance. A variety of music and props such as scarves, and teddy bears keep your little ones entertained.

DANCE TAP / BALLET

This tap/ballet class introduces children to the basics of both ballet and tap, combining creative movement, grace and balance. Students learn basic tap steps such as shuffles, rhythm exercises, and springs, and elementary ballet including plies, tendus, passes, and the basic ballet positions. EDUCATION & ENRICHMENT APPRENTICE MECHANICAL ENGINEERING: MASTER MACHINES

During the Mechanical Engineering classes, students use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and refine a variety of machines and mechanical systems. Students learn basics of fluid mechanics, simple machines, and other design and engineering concepts while constructing roller coasters, egg-drop vehicles, and an incredibly fast air powered dragster they keep at the end of the course.

ELECTRONIC GAME DESIGN: PLATFORM GAMES

During Electronic Game Design: Platform classes, students will create their own video game. A platform games is a side-scrolling, Mario-type game where students program characters and a two-dimensional obstacle course. They attempt to avoid or overcome enemies and reach an end goal on multiple levels. At the end of the class, students take home a copy of the game they create. (Not compatible with Mac or Linux).

JUNIOR PIANO PLAYERS

This fun and educational piano keyboard class is for budding pianists ages 4-5 years.

Students will be introduced to keyboard technique, music theory and play songs using a curriculum that incorporates learning-games geared towards the younger learners. HARVEST FESTIVAL HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE

This class explores basic singing skills through creative and fun games. Students learn the basic elements of breath control, voice placement, tone, phrasing and pitch in a fun- oriented format. In this low-stress environment, students who chose to sing on their own will gain the benefits of getting immediate direction. There is a $10 materials fee is payable to the instructor on the first class.

San Jose Recreation Preschool Please consider the following policies and requirements before registering for a San Jose Recreation Preschool class:       

Requirements for a parent participation, volunteer, snack, etc varies by center.

Teacher to child ration is 1:10 or better.

Participants must be toilet trained by the first day of program.

Non-registered children are not allowed in the class at any time. Please make arrangements for siblings on your participation day.

A birth certificate may be requested for age confirmations.

The City of San Jose, Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services provide recreational programs ONLY and not licensed childcare.

After reaching the class capacity your child can be put on a waitlist. If a spot becomes available at any SJ Recreation Preschool center, you will receive a call and be given the option to enroll at that center or to stay on the waiting list.

KINDERPREP This class prepares your child for kindergarten with ageappropriate activities, learning concepts, socialization skills and fun. Your child will gain a basic understanding of shapes, colors, pre-phonics, literacy building. The goal is to have fun, participate and learn.
