South Jordan’s Heritage with the Exclusive

DOWDLE PUZZLE

Artist Eric Dowdle’s puzzles are known for their intricate designs, vibrant colors, and storytelling qualities that bring local histories to life. Having created hundreds of pieces reflecting cities, national parks, and cultural events worldwide, Dowdle’s work is cherished by puzzle enthusiasts and art lovers alike. This unique piece for South Jordan, Utah, is no exception; it celebrates the city’s rich heritage through a collection of historical moments and landmarks

that have shaped its character and community spirit.

Unveiled as a mural at South Jordan’s Heritage Park on May 31, 2024, this puzzle is now available in three sizes: 100, 500, and 1,000 pieces, priced at $20 plus tax. It’s exclusively sold by the City of South Jordan and you may purchase this special edition in-person at City Hall, Station 64, the South Jordan Community Center, and Mulligans. You can also purchase them online with an additional shipping charge. Supplies are limited, so be sure to grab yours while they last!

South Jordan’s baseball legacy is also highlighted, dating back to 1883 with the local “Red Gales” team. Today, this tradition of America’s pastime continues with the arrival of the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees in 2025.

Other notable features include a nod to South Jordan’s Fire Department, which began as a volunteer operation in 1977, originally run out of a modest gas station. The dedication of leaders like Gary L. Whatcott, who led the fire department’s transformation and later became City Manager, is honored by naming the South Jordan Public Safety Building after him.

“It’s the people who make it come to life.”

This beautiful artwork is a visual time capsule, preserving important historical elements that resonate with South Jordan residents. Featured prominently is Mabel Nelson, lovingly known as “Aunt Mame.” She was a beloved figure of the Holt Homestead, famously sending visitors home with hugs, candy, and bags of popcorn.

These captivating snapshots of South Jordan’s history, from the White Fawn Flour Mill to the Heritage Park Splash Pad, have been immortalized in this one-of-a-kind Dowdle puzzle. Whether you’re a history buff or simply enjoy a good puzzle, this piece offers a cherished opportunity to bring South Jordan’s story into your home. Dive into South Jordan’s past with this exclusive puzzle before it’s gone!

is the seaon to #ShopSoJo!

First, I want to wish all of our residents a happy holiday season. As we welcome everything that makes this time of year meaningful, I want to take a moment to celebrate our local businesses. These businesses are more than just places to shop, they make invaluable contributions to our local economy and enhance our city’s unique character.

Nationwide, small businesses have a significant impact on local economies. The United States Small Business Administration reports that there are 34.7 million small businesses across the country that represent 99.7% of firms with paid employees. When you spend locally, 68 cents of every dollar stays in our community.

Our local businesses offer rewarding employment for our teens, seniors, and everyone in between. Sales tax revenue, which makes up 40% of our general fund, is an essential resource for keeping South Jordan the city we love by supporting parks, streets, and city services. That’s why shopping, playing, and dining here in South Jordan matters.

This fall, we launched a social media video series to feature our local businesses, and one of the highlights has been

UPCOMING RACES

our “Dine with Dawn” series. I’ve enjoyed getting to know our local business owners and managers and sharing their stories with you. We hope you’ll join us in supporting these businesses, not just during the holidays but year-round.

I encourage our local businesses to share their stories with us on social media using #ShopSoJo, and I invite you to follow and support these businesses. Every purchase, every meal, and every dollar spent here in South Jordan makes a difference for our economy and the wellbeing of our community.

Have a wonderful holiday season and a very Merry Christmas!
