Dear Alumni, Current Parents & Students, Friends and Supporters: Greetings! Which St. Joe graduating class is the best-ever? Was it your class? The great class of …………….!!!! Well, the Class of 2018 is representing our strong tradition well. Most recently, the seniors played an integral part in organizing and presenting the culminating event of this year’s Catholic Schools Week celebration – the joining of our Sacred Heart & SJCC students! Our senior leaders in Student Council, Meaningful Service, Band, and the Cheerleaders prepared various activities for participation of all K-12 grade level students who were mixed together in small groups. Sack lunches, games, a pep rally, and competitions were enjoyed by all before moving to the St. Joe Church for Mass. Do you remember your high school activities? Is your class the greatest? Of course, your class is the greatest, and so is the Class of 2030 (our current BHCS kindergartners). Every St. Joe graduating class is the greatest. The pride of our Catholic education runs deep throughout the history of Fremont. During the past seven months while serving as the interim BHCS Superintendent/SJCC Principal I have had the opportunity to rub elbows with generations of proud St. Joe graduates dating all the way back to the Class of 1944 (by the way, the most points scored in a basketball game is still held by a ’44 alumnus!). The Class of 1955 shared their memories with me at a recent reunion. Over-and-over again, grads have told me about their high school years at St. Joe’s – they’ve also told me how proud they are that they have kids, or grandkids, or great-grandkids now attending Sacred Heart & SJCC. Thanks for helping us live the legacy that you helped make. We are “One for All & All for One.” Always! With these thoughts in mind, enjoy this issue of “The Voice.” David Perin, Superintendent BHCS/Principal SJCC

1,000 points x 2! In the 45-year history of SJCC girls basketball there have been many great athletes grace the hardwood. This season has been no exception, in fact, there are two seniors who have been exceptional. With the senior duo of Adrienne Wehring and Miranda Wammes numerous girls’ basketball records have fallen. In the first game of the season, Adrienne Wehring scored her 1,000th point, making her the fourth girl in the history of the program to achieve this milestone. Wehring also earned the record of becoming the highest career scorer, scoring 1,350 points with several games left this season. Miranda Wammes Fellow senior, Miranda Wammes scored her 1,000th point a bit later in the season, earning her spot in the record book. Her exceptional play as point guard also helped her capture the record for most season assists. Wehring and Wammes have been playing together since the fourth grade. They have great chemistry on the court and are an offensive threat both inside and outside of the paint. Together with a close-knit group of talented senior athletes they have captured first place in the SBC and hope to make a great tournament run. Adrienne Wehring

Winter 2018

Dear Parishioners, Alumni and Friends, Happy New Year to each and every one of you! The governing board wanted to share with you a snapshot of our financial health. The BHCS review of our Sacred Heart & SJCC Campuses 2016-2017 academic year show a solid future. We voluntarily completed a 3-year audit of our finances through an outside firm and received the report in December 2017. In 2016, the BHCS Governing Board approved the hiring of an Enrollment Coordinator and began using Smart Tuition (an online tuition payment company) which helps us to track tuition payments in a timelier manner. Also, in the Spring of 2017, the Board approved a switch to the cost to educate model for assigning tuition which enables us to maximize our State of Ohio Department of Education monetary contributions. With the increased security of our BHCS financial health we have been more aggressive in growing our financial assistance dollars. We are now positioned to award tuition assistance to more families during the 2018-2019 school year than in past school years. Through the continuing generosity of our many BHCS benefactors, we will continue helping our families benefit from a Catholic education. We are “one for all and all for one”! Currently our administration is reaching out to families who have fallen behind in their payments in order get them up to date. Please contact the BHCS business offices to seek tuition assistance. Do you remember our grade school lessons? Ask and you will receive. Seek and you will find. Knock and doors will be opened. BHCS is here for you! Through these efforts and the on-going support of our Parish subsidies we will maintain both the Sacred Heart & SJCC current rates of tuitions for the 2018-19 school year. Enrollment has steadily increased with a kindergarten classroom added this year at the Sacred Heart Campus. The SJCC Campus has created a classroom that has two 3D printers, four z-space computer 3D monitors, and other advanced educational investigative technologies. Our future is bright! The Governing Board of BHCS would like to thank you for your prayers, your generous gifts of time, talent and treasures as we strive to be good stewards of your gifts. With your help, BHCS will continue the tradition of excellence in pre-K through 12th grade Catholic education in Sandusky County. In Christ, Mark R. Hoelzle MD
