Dear Alumni, Current Parents & Students, Friends and Supporters: Welcome to the ‘good old days’ of the summer! This is the season of the year when we relax – or at least try to relax! Yes, there are those usual summer chores to do, but there are also picnics, family vacations, ballgames, county fairs, local festivals, and high school reunions. Yes, it’s summertime! Let’s talk about those SJCC high school reunions. The gathering of our classmates who helped make the memories we recall from our days of innocence. Have you noticed that those St. Joe high school days always seem to pick up right where they left off so many years ago when you go to your class reunion? What is it that causes our friendships to endure? It’s easy to explain the bonds that remain strong with our best friends from our SJCC days. What about our other classmates who were friends and we went to class with them, but we never hung out with them a lot? What forms the bond between us and St. Joe alumni from other classes that were years apart from our class? What exactly does it mean to be one of the many St. Joe alumni? We all share a pride in being a member of the Crimson and Gray Streaks family! For many of us that pride began with our grandparents, parents, older brothers and sisters, and friends who attended St. Joseph Central Catholic. Our faith-filled education has extended the SJCC pride to students who come from many different backgrounds to form a common bond that is our Streaks family. There is a Crimson and Gray school spirit…..and the Holy Spirit…..that joins our alumni in God’s family! As you read this edition of The Voice I am certain that your Streaks spirit will be rekindled!! David Perin, Superintendent BHCS/Principal SJCC

Make the responsible decisions that you want for your future.” During commencement, special awards were presented: Bishops Cross Recipients Nathaniel Vasquez, Belle Michael; Excellence in Religion Award - Roberto Baez, Katherine Kuss; Robert Smith Outstanding Male Athlete Callie Kelbley - Spencer Harrison; Ethel Smith Outstanding Female Athlete - Miranda Wammes; SJCC Alumni Award - Michelle Hang; Thomas H Rimelspach Memorial Award - Miranda Wammes; Award for Outstanding Loyalty & Service - Abigail Chlosta; Sara Barbour Memorial Award for Courage - Antonio Alvarado. Boys Basketball 100 Year Celebration For the 2018-19 season, St. Joseph Central Catholic is excited to celebrate 100 years of boys basketball competition! As part of this celebration, the SJCC athletic department is creating/publishing a booklet of basketball memories. We are inviting you to send in one, two or more of your fondest memories about playing or coaching basketball for the Crimson Streaks. If your father or grandfather has passed away, but you know of stories they told of their days playing, please feel free to contribute them to our collection. We would like to print this booklet by Christmas time, so the sooner you can get your stories to us the better. Please email your memories to: ggeller@bishop-hoffman.net. Remember, these memories can be of wins or losses, of great plays or great players, of coaching achievements or milestones in scoring, rebounding etc. We are looking forward to filling the pages with memories.

Wrestler Noah Price finishes third at State! With one-fourth of the wrestling team making it all the way to the State meet, it would be hard not to sum up the season as a success. Senior Nate Vasquez and Junior Noah Price both represented SJCC at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus. It was Vasquez’s first trip to state and Price’s second. Price achieved his goal of making it to the podium with a third place finish in the 220 lb. weight class.

“State was an amazing experience for me. I went down with a personal goal of making it to the podium and was very happy to finish with a third place medal,” stated Price.

Two first place finishes for the girl’s track team at State! Reprinted from: The Fremont News-Messenger, written by Matthew Horn

It was time for St. Joseph Central Catholic coach Paul Grahl to turn Natalie Cook, Miranda Wammes and Adalia Pasch loose Saturday at the Division III State Track meet at Ohio State. Cook and Pasch were instructed to attack Minster's orange jerseys the first two legs of the 4x100 relay. Wammes and Cook were told to focus on Gilmour Academy's white jersey in the 4x200. The trio didn't just do their jobs, but Tristan Reineck and Jessica Drown followed up to earn the Crimson Streaks' first two relay championships at State in a span of ten minutes. The relays topped their own school records. “The plan of attack was to set up the second half," Grahl said. "Adalia gave it to Tristan in the 4x100 and I knew it was over. To have three underclassmen hook up together, Tristan was a huge catalyst in both the relays. "It's a heck of a 1-2 punch ending both those relays with Tristan and Jessica. "It’s special because we’re the first,” Drown 4 x 200m Champions said. To do it twice is surreal. To end with two state titles is unbelievable. It was my Miranda Wammes, Jessica Drown fourth time making it to Columbus. It's hard to explain all the emotions” said Drown. Tristan Reineck, Natalie Cook Crossing that line first twice and celebrating with my teammates, I'm so happy for the school and my team. To be able to break records and end on those — when I looked up I couldn't believe we ran that fast." Drown knew the relays would respond to the environment and circumstances. They were seeded second Saturday after nearly winning both heats Friday. "I knew going into both relays we had a good chance to come out on top," she said. "We could feed off each other and hopefully secure first place." SJCC won the 4x200 at 1:44.03. "I remember handing off the baton to Jessica in both relays and just knowing we had already won," Reineck said. "I was watching the big screen jumping and screaming because I was so happy. I don't even know what to think right now. It all feels so unreal. I'm so proud of our team and what we were able to accomplish. We worked so hard for this and I couldn't be any happier." The Crimson Streaks took the 4x100 at 49.69. "Tristan, Natalie and I were super excited being able to carry that high through, knowing we could do the same thing in the 4x100," Drown said. Covington and Gilmour Academy finished second in the 4x200 at 1:44.52. Lehman Catholic was second in the 4x100 at 50.20. "The gap between us and second place in both relays surprised me," Grahl said. "Around the league and District meets, we were fast and we knew we'd be in the mix." St. Joe's has three individual State crowns in its history. Grahl said relays on both sides have finished runners-up about seven times before this year's groups made history. "I knew going in we had a really good chance at winning," Reineck said. "I knew that if we perfected our handoffs we would be fine. I remember running across the field to the rest of the team and hugging all of them.” "Standing at the top of the podium in front of all those people didn't even feel real. I couldn't be any more thankful for my teammates and coach." Wammes said who was also a senior. "Their competitiveness and their determination," Grahl said. "They attack their workouts and it translates and shows up 4 x 100m Champions in their races. They've done it year-in and year-out as dedicated, Natalie Cook, Jessica Drown Tristan Reineck, Adalia Pasch intense competitors." Junior Brandon Kadlubowski competed at State for the boy’s team. Despite being seeded in ninth place he finished fifth in the 400m dash to earn 400m Dash Fifth Place his spot on the podium. Branden Kadlubowski
