“In a positive sense, aging becomes a time for visiting the temple of your memory and integrating your life… Sometimes difficulty is the greatest friend of the soul. Aging inspires both the clearance of false burdens and the integration of our experiences.”
- John O’Donohue
Dear Friends,
We are now forty-three in number and our median age is 83. For the most part, we are in the golden years of our lives. The integration of our experiences, as the John O’Donohue quote above references, is a reflection of you. We are very grateful for our steadfast and dedicated RDC Associates, Companions, benefactors, alumnae(i) and friends. You are our ambassadors of compassion, and partners in our mission to be the compassionate presence of God in the world.
From the very beginning, Divine Compassion has been about the blending of strength and tenderness, community-building and hospitality, empowerment and solidarity, particularly with those who are disadvantaged. Touched by God’s mercy, we are called to be life-giving women of prayer who respond to the signs of the times by embracing the suffering of others, and bringing God’s healing love to them.
Prayer is the business of our lives. In aging, we reflect more on the power of prayer. In today’s troubled world, it is increasingly important that we all take pause to keep God as our center. Difficulty can be the greatest friend of the soul when we let all we bear and all we suffer lead us to God. Remain in Christ as Christ remains in you through the best of times, as well as the most challenging.
With your generous support, we continue to live out our charism in prayer and deed. This Annual Report shares some of the highlights of our mission in action in 2024. We pray in thanksgiving for your dedication to our Sisters and our mission.
Blessings,
Sr. Laura Donovan, RDC President

In 2024, the Sisters of the Divine Compassion joined with the Franciscan Sisters of Peace in Haverstraw, the Sisters of the Blessed Presentation in New Windsor and the Sisters of St. Ursula in Rhinebeck to explore ways to ease their increasing civil administrative responsibilities, in order to dedicate more of their time to their canonical work and caring for their Sisters. After prayerful discernment and planning, the Sisters decided to develop a position that would oversee and manage operations for all four Communities.
Michele Pollock, the Chief Operating Officer for the four congregations, brings a diverse professional background to her role, having taught in Catholic schools for ten years and held executive level positions in nonprofit administration in domestic violence and civil legal services for fifteen years. Michele also earned a law degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law, where she concentrated her studies on women’s and children’s legal rights and history.
“I have been very fortunate to have a unique combination of opportunities in my career. I believe that my extensive work with various external stakeholders, including community partners, government, funders and philanthropists, forces you to take a big step back sometimes to get a clear picture of your organizational needs and opportunities. I am hopeful that experience will be an asset to each of the congregations I am working with now,” Michele explained.
During this transitional time, Michele’s priority is to ease the civil obligations of the Leadership Team as they guide their Sisters, Associates, Companions and staff into the future. Additionally, Michele is focused on becoming a source of support for the dedicated finance, health care, advancement and administrative staff.
“I am humbled by the confidence that the Sisters have placed in me at such an important time, and I am very grateful to be part of the Divine Compassion Community, in which genuine care and compassion guide the work of the congregation. I look forward to working in such a special, spiritual environment,” Michele expressed.
Michele lives in Milan, New York, where she rents an old farmhouse on a cattle ranch, but makes a point to share, “the cows are not mine!” She does, however, raise English Orpington chickens and honeybees. Michele has three children who she is very proud of. Jonathan is a Ph.D. candidate in geology at the University of Toronto, Gabriella is an RN working with developmentally disabled adults, and Sofia is a full time student at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC.
In 2024, our Collaboration for Compassion, comprised of 22 representatives from 15 entities in White Plains and Westchester County, continued its work on building a Community of Compassion in White Plains.
Our focus for this initiative is addressing homelessness/ housing insecurity, as it is one of the top challenges and concerns in the White Plains community. Together, our collaboration of representatives from government, health care, business, not for profit, human services, community advocates and issue experts, worked to address the New York State “shelter contribution,” one of the major road blocks in supporting the homeless/housing insecure population.
The New York State “shelter contribution” requires individuals or families receiving temporary assistance to contribute a percentage of their monthly gross earned income towards their shelter costs. Those living in shelters have been required to pay up to and exceeding 90% of their monthly income. This contribution has had the negative effect of incentivizing the unhoused to enter the County’s ‘drop-in’ system for shelter rather than the full shelter system where they can receive support and assistance, including food, case management and referrals for counseling and other services.
Over the past year, we have made progress in advancing our initiative. Collaboration member, Mayor Thomas Roach, introduced us to NYS Assemblywoman Amy Paulin and her team, who have been instrumental in guiding and partnering with us in our advocacy efforts.
Most recently, Westchester County’s 2025 Joint Legislative Package included a recommendation to eliminate the shelter contribution. Assemblywoman Paulin is currently drafting legislation that would grant the County authority to pilot the elimination of this contribution in Westchester.
The Collaboration for Compassion will continue its advocacy efforts in 2025, while considering programmatic initiatives, as well.
Cloud Crossings is Sr. Alice Feeley’s third book of poetry, and once again, Sister connects the depths of the spirit with the Divine Presence everywhere, especially in nature.
“Nature offers us beauty, life and creation in various and unique ways. Although a constant in our lives, nature reminds us that we are not in control, so we have a better sense of who we are in this world,” Sr. Alice explained.
For Sr. Alice, poetry is spiritual. It tends to touch the deeper and mixed part of self that oftentimes we have trouble expressing. The same is true for prayer.
Poetry comes to Sr. Alice in many forms. It can be visual. It might be something someone says or may come from exploration. Sister explains that, in her experience, the art of poetry is not orderly and may often be surprising.
Cloud Crossings lightly touches upon various mainstays of Sister’s life and often speaks to her visits to the natural and restored life of Wild Farm, an extensive farmland abutting the lush state forest in Danby, New York. Unique clouds constantly cross the sky everywhere. Their shapes and movements have found their way into this collection, and Sr. Alice’s art form continues to be bolstered by spirituality in her personal and professional life.
Most recently, Sr. Alice has been incorporating poetry into retreats that she has led. Sister feels that poetry speaks to people with varied experiences and realities and provides opportunity for deeper reflection.
“Taking time to reflect on the words can help individuals live with trust and love, especially when answers to life’s challenges do not come easily,” Sr. Alice explained.
In addition to writing poetry and leading retreats, Sr. Alice continues her practice of spiritual direction. The practice of spiritual direction is like walking quietly into the woods. Rather than leading the way for you, a spiritual director is a trained listener who walks prayerfully beside you, waiting with you as you wait for your soul to emerge in order to deepen your awareness of and relationship with God.*
To learn more about Sr. Alice’s spiritual direction practice, email Sister at afeeley@divinecompassion.org.

Since retiring from her position as the Director of the RDC Center for Counseling and Human Development in October 2022, Sr. Pat Sheridan has been quite busy!
Soon after her retirement, Sr. Pat decided to enroll in a bereavement counseling certification program. Sister has always had a particular sensitivity to people who have experienced loss.
“People who have experienced loss have always touched me,” Sr. Pat explained.
Since earning her certification in bereavement counseling, Sr. Pat has been working with Hospice of Westchester in White Plains. She began volunteering, but is now a part-time social worker serving on the Hospice team made up of a medical director, nurse, social worker, chaplain, home health aides and a primary care physician.
As a licensed social worker, Sr. Pat provides emotional support and presence to the patient and family. In her role with Hospice, Sister works with people who are “actively dying” in their homes, as well as nursing homes or other facilities.
Sr. Pat explained that there is a care plan and goals for each patient. Her goal is to provide emotional support whether it be to face an illness and/or adjust to this life change, and be present with them where they are and with whatever they need.
“I am grateful to be able to serve patients and their families in this way. We offer comfort, including anticipatory grief counseling and emotional support to help them prepare for and grieve after a passing.”
Sister also recommends that patients and their families consider complementary care such as music therapy, massage therapy, chaplain support, and bereavement counseling provided by Hospice. Sr. Pat finds meeting people where they are at the end of their lives very inspiring.
“Often times we have no idea of what people have lived through or experienced. There is an entire history and story of what came before me, but you can really get to know a person through their individual stories and what their families share about them. People have done incredible things in their lives. I get to know the beautiful individual they are, and I am inspired by their courage and beautiful life before me,” Sr. Pat explained.
Sister further reflected about her work in social work as a Sister of the Divine Compassion (RDC). She explained that all of the RDCs have touched people’s lives in different ways.
“In education, we affected them in the beginning of their lives. In therapy, we helped them through different times in their lives. In Hospice, we touch people at the end of their lives, bringing compassion to them, who they have become and all they have been through. Providing compassion at the culmination of their lives really is an honor and privilege. It is a full circle moment for us all,” Sr. Pat Sheridan said.
In December 2024, Sr. Mary Alice O’Brien was inducted into Westchester County’s Senior Hall of Fame. The program honors senior citizens who have given their time and energy to improve the quality of life in their communities or the county at-large. Nominated by the administrative team at Wartburg where Sr. Mary Alice lives with 21 of our RDCs, Sister was recognized for her tireless dedication to the well-being of others.
Leading with humility and compassion, Sr. Mary Alice is known for her cheerful, warm and caring presence, as well as the personal connections she makes with everyone she meets. Sister creates an environment of care by listening, offering companionship, and ensuring seniors feel seen and valued.
Sr. Mary Alice volunteers for an array of service projects on campus, including spiritual and education enrichment programs, stuffing goodie bags and preparing gift baskets for events, engaging residents in weekly music events and helping them shop for conveniences. Sister also volunteers at Wartburg’s special events, including Jazz in June, the Fall Festival and Earth Day festivities.
Sr. Mary Alice’s joyful and motivational spirit is evident during Sunday morning bowling sessions at Meadowview, where she actively participates and encourages others to do the same. Sr. Mary Alice also supports the Network for Catholic Social Justice and is a member of the Wellness Warriors team that raises funds for the Alzheimer’s Association and participates in their annual walkathon.
“I was honored and humbled to be nominated by Wartburg and to be inducted into Westchester’s Senior Hall of Fame,” Sr. Mary Alice said. “It was very inspiring to be among so many seniors honored for their service to others.”
In November, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School (OLMC) celebrated its 95th Anniversary with a dinner dance at Knollwood Country Club. More than 200 people, representing three generations of OLMC students, attended the celebration.
It was a very special evening, as everyone came together to celebrate this remarkable milestone and reminisce about all of the great memories over the years.
OLMC has so much of which to be proud. In addition to educating three generations of students, several of the faculty and staff have been teaching at the school for 25+ years. Sr. Stephen Healey has been Principal for 62 years, which we believe is a record in New York State, and Sr. Joanne Fallon has taught fourth graders at the school for 65 years!
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is truly a happy “home-away-from-home” for its students and faculty. Love and caring is evident, and as Sr. Stephen often says, “A happy student is a successful student!”
To round out the evening, Elmsford Mayor, Robert Williams, presented a proclamation to Sisters Stephen and Joanne, recognizing their incredible leadership and service to the community.
For more information about Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, visit them at olmcelmsford.com.
“You pulled me in and together we’re lost in a dream… So I risk it all just to be with you. And I risk it all for this life we choose…”
These lyrics to the song, Tight Rope, speak to Sr. Laura Donovan’s love and dedication to God, the Divine Compassion mission and Congregation, as well as her family and friends near and far.
The words truly defi ne her. Sister always leads with love and compassion, giving her whole heart to everyone she meets.
It was with this in mind that we gathered together at our 26th annual Divine Compassion Golf Classic & Dinner Reception last September to honor and celebrate Sr. Laura for her 55 years as an RDC, her resilient and compassionate leadership over the past eight years, as well as her open and compassionate heart.
Immediately after we announced Sr. Laura would be the 2024 Golf Classic Honoree, the congratulatory messages, sponsorships, foursomes, dinner guests and general excitement came pouring into our office. The majority of those that golfed at the event reserved their spot early in August. We also had over 200 people confi rmed for the dinner reception by that time. Sr. Laura set a record for early registrants, sponsorships as well as the most sponsorships - ever for this event!
In early September, we received a beautiful message from Good Counsel Academy High School alumna, Rosie Hintz, which read:
“The impact you have had on the Sisters, Associates, Companions, alumnae/i, and friends of the RDC Community, is nothing short of extraordinary. You have led us through some of the most challenging
times, yet despite the uncharted and tumultuous waters, you navigate with grace, compassion, and unwavering leadership. You truly embody the spirit of Our Lady of Good Counsel in every decision you make.”
Thanks to the generosity and support of so many of you, this year’s event set a new record, raising over $168,500 in net proceeds for the care and support of our Sisters and the Divine Compassion mission.
In expressing her gratitude, Sr. Laura Donovan reflected, “Our founder reminds us to be humbled that God would be so good as to let us take the Divine Compassion into our hands and go and give it to others. It is with this in mind that I thank God, my family, the Divine Compassion Community, our partners in mission, alumnae(i), benefactors and friends for this wonderful honor and your remarkable response to our annual Golf Classic & Dinner Reception.”
Sr. Laura added, “My heartfelt gratitude goes out to our dedicated Golf Classic Committee who continue to dedicate their time, talent and treasure to our Sisters and this annual event. We could not do this without their work and support!”
We look forward to having everyone back again next year!

Founders’ Day of Giving • June 26, 2025
Sisters of the Divine Compassion were delighted to welcome alumnae “home” to celebrate their Anniversary Reunions.
The Sisters of the Divine Compassion joyfully celebrate two of our Sisters celebrating their 50th and 70th Jubilees. As certified teachers, administrators, counselors, therapists, spiritual advisors and more, our Sisters have shared their unique and personal gifts with children, teens, adults, families and communities at all levels of education, administration, health services and social service platforms.
As we celebrate the 50th Jubilee of Sr. Susan Merritt, we fondly recall Sr. Susan’s favorite quote of Mother Mary Veronica, the Divine Compassion Foundress, “What would all we do amount to, unless our hearts went with it?” Sr. Susan poured her heart and soul into all that she accomplished during her remarkable 50-year ministry. Institutions, individuals and the Divine Compassion Community have all greatly benefited from her dedicated and compassionate heart.
An alumna of both Good Counsel Elementary School and Good Counsel Academy High School, Sr. Susan, an honor student, also excelled on the basketball court. After GCA, Sr. Susan went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Catholic University, then a Master’s degree and later a Ph.D. in computer science from New York University.
After a brief stint at working in the digital business field, Sr. Susan joined the faculty at Good Counsel Academy High School, teaching math and computer science, and later taught at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry. Then, as a member of Good Counsel College and the College of White Plains faculty, Sister began a far-reaching career at Pace University.
In 1981, Sr. Susan was appointed as the first and founding Chairperson of Pace University’s Department of Computer Science. She soon became the first Dean of the newly established School of Computer Science and Information Systems, later named the Seidenberg School after Ivan G. Seidenberg, Pace alumnus and Chairman and CEO of Verizon Communications, Inc.
Under Sr. Susan’s leadership, Pace became one of the first universities in the country to combine software with systems development and applications in the same comprehensive school. Pace was cited by Crain’s New York Business for its position among the top five institutions in the region granting degrees in information technology (along with Columbia, CUNY, NYPoly and NYU).
Sr. Susan’s creatively designed programs in computing resulted in the continuing education of thousands of students in the United States and overseas.
Throughout her life, Sr. Susan has been an advocate for the education and leadership of women. In 1991, her successful proposal to Westchester County established a multimillion dollar funded, structured program in personal computer applications for women on public assistance.
On the non-academic side, Sr. Susan was an avid beach-goer, relaxing either at the shore or by skimming the waters of the Sound as she sailed on her Sunfish. Special too was spending time with her beloved nieces - Michelle, Carly, Jenny, Ali and Hannah, her devoted younger sisters, Debbie and Nancy, and her dear friend and confidant, Sr. Mary Alice O’Brien.
Widely recognized in the computer science field, Sr. Susan earned several honors and awards including the Carol S. Russet Award for Distinguished Service and the Martin Luther King Jr. Social Justice Award from Pace University. Additionally, the Women’s Research and Education Fund’s Education Scholarship, awarded by the Verizon Foundation, named a “Dr. Susan Merritt Verizon in Technology Award,” in recognition of her leadership in the field of information technology. Sr. Susan remains a valued member of the Pace University faculty, now as its Dean Emeritus.
After completing her 25th year as Dean at Pace University, Sister relinquished the Deanship to assume the Presidency of the Sisters of Divine Compassion from 2008 to 2012. With her concern for our Sisters always paramount, Sr. Susan visited the Divine Compassion infirmary daily, offering compassionate care to the elder Sisters. Simultaneously, Sister championed green technology and practices throughout the Divine Compassion network, enabled by a large grant from the Verizon Foundation. She also successfully led the Divine Compassion Community through the arduous Vatican Visitation of religious congregations.
Another highlight of her presidency was overseeing the Divine Compassion’s memorable 125th anniversary celebration. This involved securing a slot for the Sisters to march in the 2011 New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Hearts were high as the people along Fifth Avenue cheered for our Sisters!
Her infectious sense of humor, a hallmark to all who know and love Sister Patricia Smith, adds to our joy in paying tribute to Sr. Pat, who celebrates her 70th Jubilee this year! Congratulations and many blessings to our hallowed honoree!
Our Bronx-born and raised Sister attended St. Francis Xavier Elementary School, following in the footsteps of her two older siblings. When it was time for high school, she chose Preston, then a new all-girls high school in the Bronx, and there Sr. Pat first met the Sisters of the Divine Compassion.
After graduation, Sr. Pat continued her education at Good Counsel College, where in 1955, she decided to become a Sister of the Divine Compassion. Sister earned a Bachelor’s degree in biology at Good Counsel College in 1962, and earned a Master’s degree in gerontology from the College of New Rochelle in 1996. She also holds New York State Certification in general science and biology.
Sr. Pat’s ministry in elementary education spans more than 30 years. During that time, Sister taught second through eighth grade children in the Bronx at both St. Frances de Chantal and Blessed Sacrament schools. Warmly remembered as Sr. Mary Campion by her former students there, as well as at Our Lady of Sorrows in White Plains, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Elmsford and St. Joseph’s in Croton Falls, Sr. Pat leaves a great legacy.
During her summers, Sr. Pat often volunteered at the Dwelling Place, a women’s shelter in Hell’s Kitchen in New York City. She was also active in Summer in the City, an Archdiocesan anti-poverty program providing enrichment opportunities for youth in neglected areas of Harlem in the 1960s.
Throughout her life, Sr. Pat enjoyed singing. Her soaring soprano always enhanced the Sisters’ choir! She was also part of the Sisters’ group that cut its very own vinyl record, still enjoyed by the RDC staff! Sr. Pat also directed a glee club at each school where she taught.
After she retired from teaching, Sr. Pat served as the Good Counsel Senior Services Administrator and Director of Pastoral Care. In these roles, she led a committee of Sisters to provide care, company and support to our aging and infirmed Sisters. Sr. Pat also created prayer services and activities designed to further the Sisters’ spiritual and emotional wellbeing.
One of Sr. Pat’s greatest joys has been spending time with friends and her wonderful family - at the beach or at their homes throughout the country. Now in her elder years, Sr. Pat’s many devoted nieces delight in coming to visit her!
The Sisters of the Divine Compassion are faithful to their prayer ministry.
Order prayer cards for the living or deceased by visiting our website at divinecompassion.org/support us/prayer cards or by scanning this QR code.
We remember with love each of these women, our Sisters and friends, who died within the past year. We celebrate their lives and the example they offered to the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, their families, friends, students and the whole world. They each embraced the call to live compassionate lives. May they rest in the arms of the loving God they so faithfully served.
Sister Alice Conrad, RDC (Formerly Sr. Mary Frances)
July 28, 1931 – October 27, 2024
Sister Alice Conrad, a member of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion for 71 years, died peacefully on October 27, 2024 at Greenwich Hospital.
Sister Alice was born in New York on July 28, 1931, the daughter of Harry and Frances Gallagher Conrad. Upon her graduation from Good Counsel College, where she was President of Student Council and earned a Bachelor’s Degree, Sister entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion on August 15, 1953. Sr. Alice continued her studies at Seton Hall University, earning a Master’s degree in Education. Sister also held three NYS Certifications in Education and Administration.
Sr. Alice spent the majority of her ministry serving the people of Westchester County in schools, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, government, as well as day care centers and summer camp programs.
Sister Alice taught elementary school in White Plains, Brewster and the Bronx. Sister served as principal of Sacred Heart Elementary School in Hartsdale and John F. Kennedy High School in Somers. Additionally, Sr. Alice was City Clerk for the City of Rye, a member of the Divine Compassion Congregation Leadership team and Campus Administrator, and worked closely with developmentally disabled children and adults.
Upon her “retirement” from Grace Church Community Center in the 1990s, Sr. Alice developed and continued to manage Shepherd’s Flock, which provides basic necessities of food, clothing and/or furniture for the poor, especially the working poor, who are not eligible for government assistance.
In 2019, Sr. Alice received top honors at Westchester County’s Senior Hall of Fame for her 50+ years of service to the people of Westchester County.
In addition to her sense of humor and wisdom, Sr. Alice is remembered as a “connector” of people. Sister wholeheartedly loved her family, dear friends and beloved dogs, and always enjoyed a good story and a laugh. Even in death, Sr. Alice’s compassion, beautiful heart and humor were evident as she reminded us, “Please, no flowers. I am terribly allergic. In lieu of flowers, donate socks, underwear and/or diapers to the poor.”
We lovingly remember our faithful RDC Associate who passed away in 2024.
Katharine Torlish
May she rest in the arms of our loving God.

Sister Mary Rose Golden, RDC
May 13, 1924 – July 31, 2024
Sister Mary Rose Golden, RDC, a member of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion for 81 years, died peacefully on July 31, 2024 at St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry. Sister was our oldest Congregational member, having celebrated her 100th birthday in May 2024.
Sr. Rose was born in New York on May 13, 1924, the daughter of Peter Golden and Anne (McDonald) Golden. She entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion on September 12, 1943, and professed her fi nal vows on April 23, 1949.
Sr. Rose earned her Bachelor’s degree in English from Good Counsel College. She continued her studies at Fordham University and the College of New Rochelle, earning a Master’s degree in Education from St. John’s University. Sister also earned NYS Permanent Certification in elementary education.
Sr. Rose’s teaching ministry, began at Good Counsel Elementary School and included St. Lawrence O’Toole in Brewster, St. Bernard’s in White Plains, Sacred Heart in Hartsdale, and St. Frances de Chantal in the Bronx. Sister also served as Principal at Sacred Heart, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, and Good Counsel Elementary School.
Sr. Rose never really considered retiring. For years after she retired as principal of Good Counsel Elementary School, where she had begun her teaching career in 1947, Sister continued to administer the CCD program at St. Patrick’s in Armonk. When she had to give that up because of health issues, Sr. Rose continued on as sacristan at Good Counsel Convent.
The hallmarks of Sr. Rose’s life were her warm presence, gentleness, gratitude, and a quiet joy, exemplified throughout her life and ministries and among the residents, staff, and visitors at St. Cabrini of Westchester.
For Sr. Rose, family was everything! Her siblings were her heroes. She would share that her brother, Tom, was a Maryknoll priest, and her sister, Anne, was a Sister of Charity. She would ask, “Can you imagine my sister Rosemary had seven children?” Possibly her favorite role was being “Aunt Peg” to three generations of nieces and nephews. Sr. Rose was blessed with the presence of many of them at her 100th birthday party. Their stories reflect a mutual delight.
Sister Dorothy Weber, RDC (Formerly Sister Mary Matthew) October 14, 1938 – September 19, 2024
A member of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion for 68 years, Sister Dorothy died peacefully on September 19, 2024 at St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry, NY.
Sr. Dorothy was born in New York on October 14, 1938, the daughter of Gregory Weber and Mary Ellen Walsh Weber. She was raised in the Bronx, attending Holy Family Elementary and Preston High School. Sister entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion on September 3, 1956.
Sr. Dorothy earned a Bachelor’s degree in English from Good Counsel College. She continued her studies at Fairfield University and Western Connecticut State College, earning a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education from St. Joseph’s College in Connecticut. Sister also held NYS Permanent Certification in elementary mathematics education.
Sister Dorothy’s fi rst ministry assignment was at St. Anthony’s School in East White Plains. During her time there, she taught third, sixth and seventh graders. In 1962, Sister moved to Brewster, where she taught fourth grade at St. Lawrence O’Toole School until 1965. Sister then returned “home” to the Bronx, teaching math to middle school students at St. Frances de Chantal. In 2011, Sister Dorothy retired from her fi nal assignment at St. Anthony’s in White Plains.
Sister was known throughout her religious life for her easy humor and love of the Dodgers baseball team. Famous for her storytelling, Sr. Dorothy often shared great tales about the “good old days” with her friends, Sisters Pat Smith and Anne Kniphuisen. The memories she cherished most were the times she spent with her dear and loving family at their homes and at the Jersey Shore. Her family was one of the greatest joys of Sr. Dorothy’s life.
