Edifi cio cardine della complessa struttura difensiva voluta da Cosimo de Medici, conserva ancora intatta tutta la sua vocazione militare. Oggi è un museo che espone collezioni di varia natura. Cosmopoli, antico nome di Portoferraio in memoria del suo fondatore, trova in questo luogo l’essenza delle sue molte storie: un Cosmos eterogeneo, ricco di sorprese inaspettate, e punto ideale da cui partire alla scoperta dell’affascinante storia della città.
The key building of the defensive fortifi cations created by Cosimo de Medici, it still clearly retains all its military character. Today it is a museum where collections of various kinds are on display. It is a place that conserves the essence of the multiple histories of Cosmopoli, as Portoferraio was originally named after its founder: a multifarious Cosmos, rich in surprises and the ideal starting point for the discovery of the town’s fascinating story.
