Sistema-museale-arcipelago-toscano
The Museum System of the Tuscan Archipelago (or the “Sistema Museale dell’Arcipelago Toscano (S.M.AR.T.)”) was founded in 2020 as a cooperation tool to facilitate the promotion of the archipelago’s cultural heritage. It is a single museum system embracing seven enchanted islands, each with a wonderful heritage just waiting to be discovered. The archipelago’s museum locations offer a variety of historic-artistic and cultural experiences: archaeology parks and museums, old fortresses, geo-mineralogical museums, modern and contemporary art collections, mines and collections of various kinds which reflect the rich variety of an archipelago inhabited and visited since the dawn of history. Places where the stories of Etruscans, Romans and fierce pirates interweave with those of famous personalities, from Cosimo de’ Medici to Napoleon and even former Italian President Sandro Pertini. Fascinating, adventurous stories just waiting to be discovered! The Museum System extends across the nine municipalities of Campo nell’Elba, Capraia Isola, Isola del Giglio, Marciana, Marciana Marina, Capoliveri, Porto Azzurro, Portoferraio and Rio, and includes the Tuscan Archipelago National Park.
