TREADING THE HIGHS AND LOWS: Adah Sharma

Having made her debut in 2009, Adah’s journey has been nothing less than a rollercoaster ride. From receiving rave reviews to being completely written off, she has faced extreme emotions from her fans and industry. Against all odds, she resurfaces in the spotlight yet again, captivating audiences with her latest film 'Story.' Having raked in over 300 crores at the box office, the movie has become the Highest-Grossing Women-Led Movie ever!

“I wouldn’t change anything,” shares a smiling Adah Sharma who talks about her journey, choices and more in an exclusive with Sinduri Vuppala.

Adah, your journey in the industry has been quite remarkable. You have experienced numerous successes as well as challenges, but you have persevered through it all. Tell us a little about your journey.

It's been about 15 years, since my first film, ‘1920’. I love acting, I love working on all these cool skills. Low points or high points, it's all been fun! I wouldn't change anything!

In a recent interview, you mentioned how you feel that every film you do would be your last… does that change after Kerala Story?

No, that should never change! I can't predict the future and I don't wish to. I don't know who will give me my next movie and trust me with a project that I would also be equally excited to do. But after Kerala Story, I've been offered some really exciting projects and scripts, so looks like I’ll be around for a bit.

Your film Kerala Story has put you back in the public eye. Can you tell us about it and what attracted you to the role?

It was just my intuition, I felt I should tell this story. A role like this is the role of a lifetime. Even for me, it was different because, for the first time, I was doing a true-life story, playing a person, Shalini Unnikrishnan aka Fatima Ba, who has been through all the horrors and terrors I relived on screen. I met the survivors and heard their stories and I thought, if I could play this role convincingly, I could be the voice for a few girls. Back then, I didn't know that this choice would change the lives of so many!

As of today the movie has collected 300 crores and counting… what do those numbers mean to you?

More numbers mean more people watching the film. Despite it being banned in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, people have travelled in buses to Assam to watch it. It's touching. A lot of people say movies make crores, but this movie is special because it has touched the hearts of crores of people.

Despite it being banned in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, people have travelled in buses to Assam to watch it. It's touching.

Even the success of this film has been a little bittersweet, while you were appreciated for your role; you were also doled out death threats. How does this make you feel?

I've made space in the hearts of millions of people around the world. Speaking the truth would anger a few, after all, we are exposing a huge terrorism nexus. A lot of the anger is from people who haven't watched the film. For me actually, it isn't bitter. I am overwhelmed by the incredible amount of respect and love I have received. I haven't witnessed such immense support for a film in recent times. People have embraced this film as their own and actively promoted it. I am thrilled to be included in their celebration of success.

What’s next for you? Do you think the success of this film will get you the kind of roles you have been looking for? Is it true that you have been offered an international project where you play a superhero?

I wish to work with people who are charged to make great cinema. Yes it is true, I am playing a superhero, and I like to talk about films when the trailer is out. It’s nicer that way, like we did for the Kerala Story or like I do for all my

films. My next set of films is very different and I play very contrasting characters from what I did in Kerala Story. To know more you will simply have to wait a few more months.

Do you think being from a non-film background has set you back more than you would like to believe is true?

I think after debuting with a role like 1920 and doing some amazing stuff in the South too and now Kerala Story, it would be ungrateful for me to say I wish I were born in the womb of someone from the industry. The Kerala Story is the highest female-grosser film ever. That makes me one in....everyone ever!

How do you approach choosing roles and projects? What factors do you consider?

Only intuition. I make sure I'm well fed, and my sugar levels are optimum, then I tap into my intuition and I know, Positively YES or Definitely NO! There's never an

I’m thrilled they have included me in their success think after debuting with a role like 1920 and doing some amazing stuff in the South too and now Kerala Story it would be really ungrateful for me to say I wish I were born in the womb of someone from the industry.

You have done a lot of films down South, any interesting projects in the pipeline?

Yes, several. I’m planning to clone myself first, want to do all of them and more.

What’s your take on OTT, OTT is now opening up opportunities for better roles and better performances…

I agree. With OTT more stuff is being made, and more actors are getting a chance. I'm very happy OTT exists; I hope all the talented actors get opportunities and raise the bar so high that mediocrity becomes obsolete.

In an industry where fates and people become obsolete every Friday, you have managed to ride the tide with your head held up high. Does the pressure ever get to you? What do you do to keep your mental health balanced?

To be honest I'm not sure one can be fully mentally balanced and stay around. I’m a little off and a little dead inside to stick around.

I like what I was doing over the past three years. I was getting to live roles that I enjoyed playing, all of them were so diverse. I like working without an end goal and plan that keeps me sane.

What advice would you give to aspiring actors who are just starting their journey in the industry?

For someone who isn't from the industry, make sure your light shines so bright that they can't help but notice you. You might get that one chance, so be ready for it. It sometimes might take a hundred years (for me from 1920 to 2023, literally a hundred) so keep at it, because when you get that one chance you should be ready to give it your all.

How do you stay motivated and inspired in your craft? Are there any specific sources or practices that fuel your creativity?

I try to keep my focus. If I'm peeling oranges, I do just that! If I'm solving puzzles, I don't check my phone in between. If I'm playing the piano, it’s the piano alone. I'm not distracted; I'm listening to what they are saying. I think that keeps me inspired. I like learning new things that keep me fuelled too!

Finally, what keeps Adah going and what’s her biggest high?

The biggest high is being so real on screen that people don't think it looks like an act. To make life and death real. And finally, to keep people entertained enough so they don't have the urge to check their phones while watching what we have created on screen.

COCONUT-LEAF SIPPING STRAWS THAT MULTIPLY HAPPINESS

If you think PhD English Professors don’t look beyond the rim of their glasses, think again. Dr Saji Varghese (Christ University – Bangalore) exudes inspiration like none other! With a keen desire to improve the underprivileged sections of society and promote women empowerment, he wears his heart on his sleeve and shares his dream for a better India with Canta Dadlaney!

From teaching English to innovative manufacturing of eco-friendly straws, what inspired you?

I have been teaching English for almost 26 years, first in Maharashtra and now in Bangalore. A large section of our society lives in utter poverty and millions of children live in horribly squalid conditions. While I love my work, I was always haunted by the question of whether my work was making a difference to those around me. One evening, I happened to be near a railway station. I spotted a slum close to a massive drain and several little kids were playing close by. I realized I had to make a difference in the lives of these marginalized kids through my work, it was an epiphany for sure.

Were you confident about the straw products or did you just go by a gut feeling?

Millions of straws are used every single day across the globe and the very fact that the world was looking for an alternative to single-use plastic straws made me take the plunge headlong. I developed the straws from Agri-waste (fallen coconut leaves which are usually burnt in landfills

and kitchens). A little research made me realize that we could make 150200 straws from a single coconut frond. I then understood that we could create employment opportunities for hundreds of women in rural areas not only in India but in other tropical countries as well.

Did you consult someone about the probability of making it a success?

No, I did not but I went about building a team and we worked together to establish an enterprise.

INDIA 12 July 2023
"
MILLIONS OF STRAWS ARE USED EVERY SINGLE DAY ACROSS THE GLOBE AND THE VERY FACT THAT THE WORLD WAS LOOKING FOR AN ALTERNATIVE TO SINGLE-USE PLASTIC STRAWS MADE ME TAKE THE PLUNGE HEADLONG.
Dr Saji Varghese

What were the initial steps? Did you consider the technical aspects?

A month after I started hand-rolled straws, I focused my energies towards making very simple devices to expedite production. Soon Chirag, Jobin, and Anoop joined me and along with their creativity, passion, and perseverance, we developed the first machines which could roll out a single straw every 45 seconds! As the demand for the straws increased, these individuals worked dedicatedly for eight months and successfully developed a conveyor system. This is undergoing trials at one of our production centres near Mysore. This system will enable rolling out 1 straw every second!

Where did you establish your first production unit? How many team members did you have?

We started with four women in Madurai. Christ University, where I teach, funded my project. Sandeep and Chirag, my students at Christ University came on board wholeheartedly. In a short while, we were joined by Jobin, a design engineer. Soon, we had Rajkumar and Ponvenkatesh, who started franchisee production units join us and then came Fousul followed by Anoop who is an engineer.

Where and how did you market your first production of straws?

The first of our straws was tried out in the US. A US-based company came across a YouTube video that featured us and bought them to test their response in the US market.

How did people receive them in India?

Initially, I used to make single-layered straws. I would take feedback from the users on the improvements they expected. I worked on them for a year and then developed multi-layered

straws which are now received well. From hygiene concerns to shelf life, we could assuage all the apprehensions and assure them of the quality of these straws.

How many production units do you have today?

We have three straw-producing centres and two leaf-processing centres. With a conscious effort to be a social-impact startup emphasis on a holistic approach to women's empowerment in rural pockets. We have 86 women employees and they have been working with us for the past three years. We manufacture about 6,000 straws per day. By midJuly, we will deploy our upgraded machines at our three centres. This will help manufacture 30,000 straws per day.

Can you affirm that you are the pioneer of these products?

Yes absolutely. The single-layered straw which I developed was the fastest patent granted in India in 2018. We have filed a patent for the multi-layered straws under PCT and we have received the international patent search report. All our claims are novel across 153 countries. We have also filed independent patents for our straws in the US, the European Patent Office and Sri Lanka.

INDIA 13 July 2023
WE MANUFACTURE ABOUT 6,000 STRAWS PER DAY. BY MID-JULY, WE WILL DEPLOY OUR UPGRADED MACHINES AT OUR THREE CENTRES. THIS WILL HELP MANUFACTURE 30,000 STRAWS PER DAY.
"

What about quality-check processes and training? How long does it take to train the employees?

Women from the adjacent areas are employed and trained to collect leaves of the right quality. They are trained to use our cleaning, width-cutting, and knurling machines which are simple to use. A week of training suffices. The women are trained to use our spiral and long-rolling machines. They are quick on the uptake with these machines (7 days) but they often take about three months to become proficient.

A sale of 20 million straws worldwide! Do you see yourself as an inspiring leader in the future?

I would be happy to build inspiring leadership at all levels so that we build a model social enterprise which has a holistic approach and creates a ripple effect. I would want it to affect financial independence, improved standards of living and creative quality education in these communities.

What’s behind the name Sunbird Straws?

Sunbird is a tiny bird whose feathers have a natural glow and its beak is specially designed to drink nectar from flowers. Our straws have a natural shine (the natural wax of the leaf gives it a shiny surface and makes it water-resistant and antifungal) and we can customize our straws across diameters and lengths to suit all kinds of beverages.

You also conduct online training for the kids of your women employees. Why?

I am a teacher first and teaching is and will always be my first love. I teach English and good communication skills are very empowering. It gives me immense satisfaction and I don’t mind stretching myself a little to conduct these training sessions for them. These online classes are now a priority for me.

Are you working on any future innovations?

Although we are currently manufacturing only straws of different sizes. We developed a few other organic products like dishwashing scrubbers, urinal screens, coasters etc., but we will be introducing them gradually.

I just developed straws from the leaves of Pandanus (Annapoorna leaves) and I see this as a huge value addition to the current line of products. This can encourage the sustainable cultivation of pandanus plants which helps in preventing soil erosion and reducing the impact of high tides on the shores. Our goal is to reach a production of one lakh straws per day with employment to 500 women in the next year.

Sunbird Straws has been selected as the finalist for two prestigious international competitions i.e., MassChallenge Switzerland 2023 (an early-stage startup accelerator program which accepts startups from any industry) which will be held in Renens (Switzerland). The other is the Youth Ecopreneur Award organized by the International Trade Centre which will be held in Mongolia where we are the only team from India.

Sunbird Straws has many feathers in its cap some of which include:

1. The Swiss Re Shine Entrepreneur Award

2. The Catalyze Tech 2021 Award by the SELCO foundation

3. The Agri-Hackathon Award by the Ministry of Agriculture

4. The Honey Bee Network Creativity and Inclusivity Award through UNDP

The Rise of FWBs:

Are They Becoming the New BFFs?

In today’s evolving landscape of relationships, the concept of “Friends with Benefits” (FWB) has gained significant attention. Often depicted in popular culture as casual, no-strings-attached encounters, FWBs have become a subject of fascination and debate. But are they blurring the lines between friendship and romance, leading to a new kind of “best friends forever” (BFF) relationship? Mehak Walia delves into this intriguing topic and explores the evolving dynamics of modern connections.

The Emergence of FWBs:

Let’s get one thing straight, FWBs relationships haven’t just emerged suddenly, they have been around for quite some time. But, their visibility and acceptance have increased in recent years. The fast-paced nature of modern life, shifting societal norms, and the rise of dating apps have all contributed to the growth of this relationship style. Friends-withbenefits arrangements typically involve two individuals who are friends and engage in sexual activities without the commitment of a romantic relationship.

While FWBs primarily revolve around physical intimacy, the foundation of these relationships is often built on friendship. The partners involved share common interests, engage in conversations, and provide emotional support. This connection can blur the lines between friendship and romance, leading some to wonder if FWBs are indeed becoming the new BFFs. Although, one major aspect that distinguishes FWBs from traditional romantic relationships is the absence of romantic expectations. In many

cases, FWBs provide a safe space for individuals to explore their sexuality without the pressure of long-term commitment. The lack of expectations allows for greater emotional intimacy, as partners can openly share their thoughts, fears, and dreams without the fear of judgment or the burden of traditional relationship obligations. Furthermore, FWB relationships rely heavily on clear communication and mutual understanding. Unlike traditional friendships or romantic partnerships, FWBs require honest conversations about boundaries, expectations, and the potential for evolving feelings. This emphasis on communication fosters a deeper understanding between the involved parties and allows them to maintain a strong connection while respecting each other’s autonomy. With the rise of FWBs, the lines between friendship and romance have indeed become more nuanced. Some argue that the emotional and physical intimacy shared in FWBs can create a bond resembling that of a BFF. The absence of societal expectations and the freedom to explore intimacy can strengthen the foundation of the friendship, leading to a deeper and more trusting connection.

INDIA 16 July 2023

But, what does the modern generation have to say about this transition? We spoke to some individuals who have participated or are participating in such relationships, to try and find out more.

Natasha Khanna, a 28-year-old cisgender woman believes that “FWB relations don't always work, there are clichés everywhere but if you have an open channel of communication, it works perfectly. TBH, most of the time women just have to be mommies to men and handhold them through relationships, so being FWB works just fine for us. This is because it's convenient, you're not answerable to them, you can depend on them for support without committing to them and, of course, you can get sex on demand (at least most of the time). And sometimes I feel, some people are just not meant to be together, and if that's the case and there's sexual tension and chemistry, fayada uthao!”

Similarly, Jason, a 26-year-Old cisgender man exclaims, “I honestly think when you have great chemistry with a friend and a sexual tension to go with, why not make the most of it, in that moment? Such relationships are highly advantageous for everyone.”

On the other hand, Shreya Singh, a 24-year-Old bisexual woman strongly believes that “FWBs can be helpful, but I don’t think the bond is comparable to that of true friendships. Like, yes, I would love to cuddle and talk with my FWB but I would only let them into the point where I’d let my best friend in I believe that there’s still a difference, at least for me. I have seen other people integrate the two as well but to each their own.”

Meanwhile, Raghu Das, a 22-year-Old gay man adds, “I and my FWB have been friends and more for about 3 years now. It’s such a convenient and giving relationship because at the end of a hard day, you sometimes just want some calming sex or you just want your close friend to watch some movie with you and chill so you can trash talk your boss. Guess what? I get both of them in the same man minus expectations. How is that not amazing?”

Aisha Walia, a 20-year-old lesbian woman looks back at her own experience and recounts, “I was lucky enough to find my FWB in my best friend. She and I have grown up together and we just decided to experiment once and it stuck. We did have the decision to convert this into a relationship, but we were both scared of the complication that comes with it and decided just to nurture our friendship and remain FWBs. So, we do go out on dates with other people and bitch about them to each other and go out to shop or binge-watch shows but as a cherry on top, we also support each other sexually. It’s a plus, plus, plus!”

INDIA 17 July 2023

In a similar tone, Hargun Singhania, a 30-year-old cisgender man comments, “My FWB is one of the most important people in the world, for me. If I have a bad date, get screamed at, at home, or just have an awful day at work, she’s there for me and I’m there for her when she needs me too. But, we also help fulfil each other’s sexual needs and fantasies. It’s like the greatest thing ever because, at the end of the day, we don’t expect the other person to treat us differently, shop for us, propose to us, or anything cliché, it cuts all the absurdities that a relationship is usually filled with and leaves us with happiness, fun, support, and sex. What’s not to love?”

As FWBs continue to evolve, it remains to be seen whether they will become a new kind of BFF relationship. While some argue that the lack of commitment and expectations makes FWBs an ideal middle ground, others believe that the traditional BFF relationship is distinct and irreplaceable. Ultimately, the changing landscape of relationships calls for a broader understanding and acceptance of various connection styles, allowing individuals to define their unique paths. With their unique blend of friendship and physical intimacy, FWBs have undeniably challenged conventional notions of relationships and given birth to new connections to cherish for life and beyond.

Tattoos have long been recognized as a form of self-expression and artistry, but their potential therapeutic benefits are now garnering increasing attention. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, tattoos are being explored as a means to help people cope with and heal from traumatic experiences. The act of transforming pain into permanent art on the body has proven to be a powerful process for individuals seeking emotional release and personal transformation. In this article, we delve into the growing phenomenon of therapeutic tattoos and explore their potential to assist in the healing journey. Tattoos can aid in healing by enabling individuals to reclaim their narratives. Traumatic experiences often leave emotional scars that can be difficult to overcome. By choosing to have those scars etched into their skin as symbols of strength, resilience, or growth, individuals regain control over their stories. Tattoos provide a tangible representation of personal journeys, allowing individuals to create a narrative that helps them make sense of their experiences and find empowerment.

TRAUMA TO ART: Can tattoos help people?

But, do tattoos have psychological advantages? To learn more about this, we spoke to Shreya Kaul (She/ her), a counselling psychologist and Narrative Therapy Practitioner whose therapy is based on a queer affirmative, inclusive, feminist, and trauma-informed approach. She strongly believes that “self-expression is one of the biggest advantages of getting a tattoo. It’s a creative form of expression that comes from a state of permanence and autonomy. Tattoos can help people. For so many of my clients, tattoos are ways of saying things they might not be able to say easily. To express love. It’s also such a space for creativity. For those who make them and get them both. For people who get tattoos, their body acts as a canvas on which they have full control. I have tattoos that celebrate me and some connections I’ve made with people, too.”

INDIA 19 July 2023 FROM
Mehak Walia in conversation with Shreya Kaul, a counselling psychologist, and Narrative Therapy Practitioner along with talented and experienced tattoo artists, Tushar Nath, Mannat Sood, and Karan Singh. SHREYA KAUL

To understand the world of tattoos and their advantages, we also spoke to experienced tattoo artists who have been tattooing clients for years now. Karan Singh, the founder of Tempt Ink Tattoo Studio and a skilled tattoo artist who has been pursuing his passion for transforming bodies into living canvases since 2017 strongly believes that “Tattoos can serve as a form of self-expression, allowing people to communicate their beliefs, values, memories, or personal stories through art. It can be a way to celebrate one’s identity or to commemorate a significant event or milestone in life. Isn’t that beautiful?”

He further added, “You see, it’s all about emotional connection through art. Some people get their parents' names which they love the most, this makes them feel like they are always with them, wherever they go which is beautiful. This is why, we always tell our clients that whatever you get, just make sure it connects to your life till your death because it can change your life for the better.”

While talking about people who attach a layer of stigma to getting tattooed, he said, “I would like to emphasize the importance of embracing diversity and respecting personal choices. Tattoos are form of self-expression and art that hold deep meaning for individuals who choose to adorn their bodies with them. It's essential to recognize that judgments based on appearance, including tattoos, can perpetuate stereotypes and hinder understanding. Tattoos do not define a person's character, abilities, or worth. They are simply one aspect of a person's self-expression and should not be used as a basis for judgment or discrimination.”

While talking further, about the psychological advantages of tattoos, she said, “I’ve heard of cases where tattoos have been made to cover scars and offer empowerment to those who’ve gotten it done. It can be used to affirm certain actions we’ve taken. So many people get meaningful quotes done, which have special affirming meaning in their life. A reminder of sorts. It also offers a sense of control to a lot of people. Some people claim that tattoos could almost be a healthy and safe way to positively express urges of self-harm. But not a lot of research has been done on this, as of yet.”

This creative growth is often hindered by the stigma that people in society attach to tattoos as well as tattooed individuals. While discussing about this stigma associated with tattoos, she explained, “I think the stigma attached to tattoo making is unnecessary. It’s one of the oldest art forms and for some communities is paramount to their culture. There is an association that has been made for individuals with tattoos to be a certain type of way - mostly negative. This has been perpetuated by pop culture as well. Mostly portraying negative characters as those with tattoos, can add to the stigma. But at the end of the day, it boils down to - everyone’s body is their own, and they have every right to use it the way they want to express whatever they want.”

Meanwhile, Mannat Sood, the founder of Art By The Gods which is her independent studio, who has been bringing clients' visions to life with her tattooing skills for 4 years now, strongly believes that “We live in a world where every single individual that you come across is looking to express. There are different expressions and there are different ways of expressing. Tattoos help individuals who choose to express their thoughts in the hope that it remains safe and engraved for eternity. Those who want to feel some sort of permanency in the ever-changing and temporary setup of life. On some other days, tattoos can also just help individuals to simply feel cool and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, either.”

She further urged people to, “Take your time with the whole process, understand the culture, and understand what it means to appreciate art, do your research, and then, just go for it. You see, just being able to get tattoos is an advantage of life itself that every person should take up at least once in their lifetime, according to me.”

While discussing the people who attach a stigma to tattoos, she smiled and politely said, “As much as I try to understand the place they are coming from since tattoos are linked with notoriety in several cultures over the centuries, the existence of such people at this time and age is just funny to me. But I’ll just say because of such people we get to be the cool rebels of the society so please, by all means, keep existing. You know you are a hot topic if you have tattoos because everybody knows it takes up a lot of courage to do what you want to do without caring what others might think of it. So for all the stigma makers and haters, please exist because your judgment only fuels us and we’re having way too much fun being the cooler ones on the planet, anyway.”

(the founder of Art By The Gods)

Whereas, Tushar Nath, one of the esteemed artists at Inkinn Tattoo Studio, who has been tattooing for about a year and a half now, strongly believes that, “tattoos are an incredible way to express yourself. Your thoughts and feelings are all kept on your body, and it acts as a diary to see how you've evolved. I feel like getting a tattoo is a therapeutic experience overall. It gives the client a person to talk to, a release through pain in a way and it allows them to express themselves in ways they aren't often able to do.”

He further added, “In many other situations, getting tattoos also serves as a way to get over traumatic or painful memories, by reclaiming our bodies. A final way in which it helps is through memorial tattoos, having something to remember a loved one by permanently ends up being quite healing for them.”

While discussing about the people who attach a layer of stigma to getting tattooed, he said, “To such people, I'd say that they need to start considering tattoos to be another form of art. We adorn so many things with art, so why not our bodies? At the end of the day, it’s just a way to express ourselves and one shouldn't judge that!”

Tattoos are increasingly being recognized as a powerful medium for healing and self-expression. By transforming trauma into art, individuals can take control of their narratives, release emotions, and symbolize personal growth. While therapeutic tattoos may not be suitable for everyone, they offer a unique path for individuals seeking to heal from traumatic experiences. As the intersection between art and therapy continues to evolve, tattoos provide a tangible and lasting testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit. After all, if they are helping people, who are we to comment on that? Let’s just learn to appreciate this beautiful art form and let it flourish.

DELTIN ROYALE: A Gigantic Nightlife Cruise, Goa!

Goa, often referred to as the Miami of India, offers a distinctive and vibrant nightlife scene. If you're seeking an unforgettable experience, be sure to include the luxurious Deltin Suites and Deltin Royale

journey

Following a flight delay of 4 hours, accompanied by picturesque views and a touch of humidity, I embarked on another one-hour journey to Deltin Suites in Candolim. Deltin Suites, Goa, was primarily established in 2012, and the brand currently operates six other properties, excluding its three offshore and landbased casinos. The next item on my itinerary for the evening was a visit to Deltin Royale, the main attraction on the Mandovi River. A tranquil 8-minute ferry ride from RMJ Jetty Port in Nerul to the cruise heightened the adrenaline rush to an even greater intensity.

Deltin Royale-

A part of the Deltin Suites, is Asia’s largest offshore casino and entertainment cruise, floating in the scenic Mandovi River of Panjim, Goa. Spread over a 50,000 sqft, 4 levels and a large deck, the cruise holds a surreal gaming experience, live entertainment, delicious cuisine, vintage liquid refreshments and so much more. The Casino bears various gaming options from traditional card games, like the Teen Patti and Poker, to roulette, baccarat, money wheel and more.

Two types of entry-level passes are available: a basic pass and a VIP pass. The VIP pass grants access to the entire cruise, unlike the basic pass. On the first floor of the voyage, one end is dedicated to a comprehensive gaming area, while the other side features a spacious dining place for guests. The cruise boasts two main restaurants, with one called Whisky exclusively reserved for VIP guests and offering private live music entertainment, while the other, Vegas, is open to all.

INDIA 23 July 2023
on your must-do list. Radhika Sharma takes you on her first experiential sailing of Deltin Royale - Asia’s largest gaming and entertainment Cruise, Goa.

Gourmets and Spirits-

Sipping on my Jacob Creek wine, I explored the cruise. If you are a liquor enthusiast too, you'll be delighted to know that Royale boasts a vast bar, offering an impressive selection. The extensive menu also caters to seafood aficionados, featuring some of the most exceptional dishes of all time. From the tantalizing Goan Fish Curry to the delectable Pomfret Fry, the options were truly mouthwatering. There were also various vegetarian choices available, both on the buffet and the à la carte menu. The buffet presented an array of starters, pastries, desserts, salads, and spicy delicacies, while the menu offered satisfying options such as authentic Indian meals and delectable international gourmet cuisines. If you're seeking new vegetarian delights to explore, I highly recommend trying the Sticky Rice and Thai Curry, which are at the top of my list.

Land-based Casino

Deltin Group also has three land-based casinos namely Deltin Zuri, Deltin Gold and Deltin Suites Casino and three offshore casinos including the Deltin Royale. I did have a brief chance to experience their land-based casino- The Deltin Gold, Candolim. The land-based casinos are a little different from the offshore ones as everything in the gaming section operates in online mode, using tablets, which include everything from e-distribution of cards to e-calling the dice, unlike the offshore gaming arena. So, if you are okay with being a digital mogul, then Land-based casinos could also be highly entertaining.

Live Entertainment to the Rescue

Not a gaming enthusiast? Well, hop on to the topmost part of the Cruise, to the vast deck of live Entertainment space, fresh breeze, a buzz of little humidity and delicious food that awaits you for a breathtaking cruise vibe. This vast deck, aligned with the stars above is perfect for a romantic dinner plan with your partner. Although crowded, you can opt for a non-holiday, week option if you wish to avoid a little hustle.

Experience Asia’s largest offshore gaming and entertainment destination where people look up to the wild Vegas-like feel. When it comes to gaming you might have your prospects in two ends, but one thing you definitely will take back home is the exhilarating Nightlife offshore aura of THE DELTIN ROYALE.

Plus-size inclusivity has come a long way in recent years. From the days of limited options and an overall lack of representation, plus-size fashion has evolved into a thriving industry offering various styles and sizes. Here's a look at how plus-size inclusivity has evolved over the years, as mentioned by Diksha Singhi. “It's a niche topic, and fewer people follow and create such content. Body positivity, for me, is the understanding that your body's role is more than to look like somebody else's definition of beauty. For me, it's realizing that my true potential is in what my body does for me vs what it looks like.”

In the past, plus-size fashion was often an afterthought. Plus-size clothing was limited to basic styles and colours, and many retailers only offered sizes within a certain range. This left many plussize individuals feeling excluded and frustrated with the lack of options. However, plus-size inclusivity has become a significant focus for many fashion and couture brands in recent years. An increasing number of Indian designers are broadening the range of models they use in their campaigns and advertisers. Here's an example of how SabyasachiXBergdorfgoodman's runway impacted this side of the fashion industry. Sabyasachi Mukherjee said. “Skinniness and confidence aren't mutually inclusive; curviness and spirit aren't mutually exclusive.”

INDIA 27 July 2023
Diksha Singhi Have you ever considered not fitting in a party because of your size, clothing and being left alone? Well, fret not; you are not alone. Pragnya Reddy in conversation with fashion influencers and designers, sharing their ideas and spreading positivity.
For me, it's realizing that my true potential is in what my body does for me vs what it looks like.
"

This increased focus on plus-size inclusivity has also led to the development of new brands and retailers that cater specifically to plus-size individuals. These brands focus on creating stylish and trendy clothing that fits and flatters plus-size bodies. They also prioritise inclusivity and representation, featuring various models and body types in their advertising campaigns. Coming out from a similar societal perspective, Akshay Kakkar says, “It is a good thing that many brands are working on it currently, and this creates a sense of self-confidence and an urge to look and be positive about yourself, as his struggle to find the right clothes was so real that he eventually had to get them stitched. Moreover, if we talk about the future, it will be sized models ruling the fashion industry, he concludes.” These brands are leading the way in creating clothing that is both fashionable and accessible to a broader range of women and men.

Another significant change has been the increased visibility of plus-size models and influencers spreading body positivity. In the past, the fashion industry was notorious for only featuring thin, conventionally attractive models in their advertising and runway shows. However, in recent years there has been a push for more diversity. These influencers are opening up, breaking industry barriers and inspiring others to feel confident and comfortable and start fresh by being themselves.

Ishita Khanna comments, "We are uniquely positioned to change the industry's future. A growing number of consumers are already actively transitioning to a more inclusive world by raising awareness and inspiring new narratives around body positivity and deeper representation. But there is a lot more potential. Now, more than ever, we all need to step up and create meaningful change." Similarly, Dr Geetika Rawat also mentions, "a significant portion of the population falls within the mid-size and above range. By including all sizes, businesses promote diversity and contribute to creating a more inclusive and accepting society. This fosters a comfortable environment with fewer insecurities and diminishes societal tendencies to downgrade individuals based on size."

Social media has played a massive role in this shift towards inclusivity. Instagram, in particular, has become a platform for plus-size women to share their style and connect with others in society. This has helped to create a sense of community among plus-size women and has given them a platform to share their experiences and advocate for change.

Even the current stage, the plus-size fashion evolution, which was attained via the extraordinary efforts of a few, has taken so many years to reach. As consumers, we have been trained only to see one physique, so our natural reaction is almost terror when encountering anything else. Overcoming such thinking and conditioning will take a lot of effort and time. Although there have been advancements, there is still a long way to go in ensuring that individuals are seen and represented.

COSPLAY is trending in India and here’s what you should know about it

Cosplay is the act of dressing up as a fictional character and portraying them in real life. Think Disneyland where Disney employees dress up as Cinderella, Snow White, etc., to charm and please kids. Anyone can cosplay, they only have to buy the costume or make it themselves since cosplaying can get pretty expensive. Imnasanen Jamir talks to cosplayers to define cosplay and suggest how you can do cosplay too!

Cosplay and its origin

Cosplay combines ‘costume’ and ‘play’ together to make an act that complements the two. It is an expression of love where individuals dress up as fictional characters from movies, books, or games. Cosplaying can be traced back to Japan during the 1970s or 80s when fans of anime communities recreated their favourite characters in real life by making costumes and styling wigs according to the characters. Today, cosplay exists beyond Japan and has exploded worldwide, becoming an important aspect of fan culture.

Amazing Cosplayers in India you must know

In case you were curious, India has no shortage of amazing and talented cosplayers throughout the country. Although the love for cosplay isn’t as strong as in Japan or Western countries, fans all over the country try to get together to appreciate and meet up over their love for the same. Here are a few amazing cosplayers.

1. Tanya Shringarpure / Syrinx Cosplay (Mumbai-based cosplayer)

“Cosplay to me is freedom. Freedom to be whichever character I want to be in whatever capacity. There’s no limit or restriction to cosplay and it is the best creative outlet for me,” says Tanya Shringarpure, a Mumbai-based cosplayer, who is one of the most creative cosplayers in India. Having cosplayed for a long time, she has gained an effective knowledge of the ins and outs of cosplay and shares that cosplaying has made her many friendships with like-minded people. She has integrated cosplay into her business life by making costumes and wigs and renting them out to fellow enthusiasts. Cosplay has no ‘rules’, so the freedom to bend and warp possibilities is endless. A woman can cosplay a male character and a man can cosplay a female character, cosplaying alien-like creatures is also not out of the question.

2. The CosplayMonster (Nagaland-based cosplayer, owner of the TCM fashion store)

Despite being a newcomer to the scene, she proves herself to be just as talented to stand on the same ground as the big players. Her leisure time never excludes cosplay, it is a part of her life. All her costumes are sewn and crafted by her. Her talent in sewing makes it possible to build costumes from scratch and design them seamlessly, she has also mastered the art of prop making and sells them for a cheap price which makes her a valuable player in the cosplay community. She has been consistently cosplaying for a year and aspires to do more in the future and showcase the artwork of costume-making and crafting skills and normalise cosplaying. She exclaims, “My future goals while cosplaying are to organise cosplay events and allow people to present their skills. I’d also very much like to represent my state by participating in national and international events.”

3. Rara (Delhi-based cosplayer, UX Designer)

Rara is an avid cosplayer from New Delhi who has a zeal for cosplaying like no other, she uses what she learns in cosplay to blend that in her professional and personal life. “I always wanted to create content and ended up choosing cosplay which is one of the most expensive hobbies but it’s really hard to get out once you get into it.” Rara considers cosplay an escape from her mundane life, she further exclaims, “I get to see myself in a very different way and it makes me feel really pretty. The love for the characters I cosplay adds happiness as I feel I can live the character and bring them to life. In a precise way-If I can’t meet them, I’ll become them.”

How to be a Cosplayer

The first step to being a cosplayer is to choose a character, it can be anyone as long as you’re passionate about it. Next, you can either buy or make your costume. As a beginner, buying a pre-made costume is often recommended since crafting costumes can be a daunting task for newbies. Rara suggests, “Not having every piece of a costume is valid, using clothes from your closet is valid and not wearing wigs is also acceptable. You don’t have to become the character, having your personal touch is always a good thing.”

Love Yourself: Self-Pleasure and Relationships

Even in the twenty-first century, there are taboos and stigmas around sexual intimacy and self-pleasure. Lack of understanding about sexual intimacy and masturbation leads to emotions of guilt, insecurity, and difficulty conveying our wants. In a talk with Bidisha Barik, Karishma (@talkyounevergot), an internationally experienced Sexuality Educator and Advocate, describes how cultural stigma leads to unanswered questions and guilt among young people with their own bodies. While the notion of masturbation is not restricted to one gender, and the use of sex toys is thrilling and appropriate even in heterosexual relationships, the stigma makes open conversation and spreading knowledge difficult.

People often have strange concerns about selfpleasure that are not addressed by formal sex education in society, and no one takes responsibility for educating one about such physical changes. Karishma encounters similar instances in her role, where individuals come to her with scientifically unfounded questions about masturbation which, she believes, stem from cultural prejudices and misinformation spread on the internet. In a short interview, she sheds light on certain prevalent stigmas surrounding sexual and reproductive health.

The words ‘masturbation’ and ‘sexual intimacy’ are, to a degree, hidden or are associated with one specific gender, or not at all. What are your views about it?

There are a lot of taboos, but in my view, we should get rid of them since having taboos surrounding these things causes a lot of shame and an overall negative attitude toward masturbation and sexual intimacy. Just because we don't talk about these things, does not mean people aren't suffering from them or inquisitive about them. It's just that when we don't have an open conversation about them, a lot of misinformation spreads, through random posts on social media or the whisper net, and so forth. Regardless of gender, having an open discussion about masturbation and sexual intimacy is fundamental. Traditionally, it has been believed that “boys are casual with masturbation or such things.” Any gender other than males expressing or desiring self-pleasure is still considered taboo. Because of societal taboos, there is a prevalent mindset in which males hold the default position.

INDIA 33 July 2023
Karishma @talkyounevergot
ANY GENDER OTHER THAN MALES EXPRESSING OR DESIRING SELF-PLEASURE IS STILL CONSIDERED TABOO
"

What makes the stigma awfully evident or really present when talking about masturbation?

The misconception that masturbating is detrimental for individuals, I believe, is what contributes to the stigma. People with penises have a lot of questions regarding masturbation, like does it cause weakness, memory loss, and premature ejaculation. People with vulvas are assumed not to masturbate, thus I receive fewer inquiries about the same. Some of the beliefs internalised by persons with vulvas include a lack of awareness of masturbation narratives, a lack of awareness of self-pleasure, or internalised shame about one's own body, which leads to a lack of exploration of one's own body.

People of all genders wonder things like “Will I get hairy palms?” and “Will I go blind?” These questions reflect all of the stigmas associated with masturbating. Misinformation in the media, internet movements like the ‘No Fap Movement,’ and other scientifically baseless assertions are why the stigmas surrounding masturbation continue to persist today.

What’s the most concerning issue when talking about “self-pleasure in relationships?” Why is it that it is still taboo?

People believe that “self-pleasure in a relationship” is something that should not exist. When it comes to heterosexual relationships, there is a belief that if a man buys a vibrator for his girlfriend, or if their partner uses a vibrator independently, he will be replaced. When it comes to self-pleasure in couples, there are a lot of social-cultural scripts at play. Some people assume that self-pleasure is cheating, or that someone who masturbates without involving their partners is doing something wrong. However, it is about the couples' setting of limits in their relationship and open communication about their sexual activities. If a partner feels uncomfortable with the concept of their partner engaging in self-pleasure or exploring their own body, the individual should address the source of their uneasiness or insecurity. At the end of the day, one is free to explore their own body in whichever way they see fit!

How can couples communicate comfortably about their sexual preferences and how important is it to do so?

Couples may convey their sexual preferences in a variety of ways; nonetheless, I believe that communication is the most important factor, despite the fact that this word is overused. However, it is practically hard to appreciate what you or your partner love in bed if one person does not communicate. Though there is widespread apprehension about discussing sex due to the taboo, it may also seem extremely personal and private, as well as vulnerable. The first thing to remember is that your partner does not have superpowers to know what you like and don't like. As a result, communication reduces the strain that comes with physical closeness. The second point is that being absolutely clear with your action feedback will assist your partner to understand you better. Last but not least, while conversing about such delicate matters, be kind and considerate of people's sentiments, while still being receptive to input.

Tips on how one can master self-pleasure activities, with or without sex toys?

1. Understanding one's own anatomy is the initial step toward self-pleasure activities, especially for individuals with vulvas. There is a general lack of understanding about clitorises and their significance. As a result, touching oneself while utilising the mirror teaches you how to explore and touch yourself.

2. The second stage is to make sure you're cognitively stimulated in ways that allow you to fully immerse yourself in the act, whether or not you're using toys. Turning off items that can disrupt you while you are in the act is part of being psychologically prepared to enjoy pleasure.

3. The next stage is to experiment with every potential variation and learn how your body responds to various postures. The idea is to have fun and learn what works and what doesn't work for you.

Losing weight can be a tough journey because it needs dedication, consistency, and a lot of hard work. Incorporating natural strategies into your daily routine can make a big difference. From regular exercise and a balanced diet to getting enough sleep, Dhanush Kumar explains the seven natural ways to support weight loss goals. By making small changes to your routine, you can transform your body and effectively achieve healthy weight goals.

7 Ways To Burn Fat Naturally

1. Exercise regularly

Exercise is one of the best ways to help your body burn fat. It is important to aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity most days of the week. The activities included in this are brisk walking, jogging, cycling, or swimming. For better results, try to include cardiovascular exercises and strength training in your daily routine.

2. Healthy diet

Food plays a crucial role in your ability to burn fat and reach a healthy weight. Having a diet that includes fruits, vegetables, and proteins can help you feel full and reduce your overall calorie intake. Stay away from unhealthy fats, and calories like fast food that can lead to weight gain.

3. Eliminate Sugary drinks

Consuming excess sugar seems to be the main driver of weight gain, especially in the abdominal area. High sugar intake can lead to higher blood pressure, inflammation, diabetes, and fatty liver disease. Everything is linked to the increased risk of a heart attack.

INDIA 35 July 2023
HEALTH

4. Stay hydrated

Staying hydrated is one of the best ways to lose weight successfully. Aim to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water per day and make sure that you avoid sugary drinks like soda and sports drinks. Drinking water can help you feel full, and it will automatically reduce the temptation to eat.

6. Manage Stress

Stress can lead to overeating, weight gain, and difficulty losing weight. That is why it is important to manage stress, try incorporating relaxation techniques into your routine like meditation, yoga, or pranayama exercises. Practising these relaxation techniques can be a great way to reduce stress levels and improve your overall well-being.

5. Get enough sleep

Lack of sleep can disturb hormones that regulate hunger and metabolism in the body, and it becomes harder to lose weight. Aim to sleep at least 7-8 hours each night and maintain consistency. It also lowers the risk of severe health problems like diabetes and heart disease. It reduces stress and improves your mood.

7. Cook more meals at home

Cooking meals at home is a great way to support weight loss and improve overall health. When you cook at home, you have control over the ingredients allowing you to make healthier choices and avoid unhealthy preservatives found in many processed foods. It can save you money and reduce food waste. You can experiment with new recipes and cooking techniques to make healthy eating more enjoyable.

Rooftop is a community-driven art experiences marketplace App that makes traditional Indian art forms accessible to the world. This App is a one-stop destination for all art needs, which is bridging the gap between Indian artisans and art lovers all over the world. This first-of-its-kind art technology company endeavours to curate art and recreational activities based on traditional art. Bindu Gopal Rao in conversation with the Founder of Rooftop, Kartik Gaggar.

Rooftop was started to help the arts and artists. “Whilst travelling I came across so many different indigenous artists that were struggling to create value for their crafts. I was impressed with their skills and the passion with which they continued to love their heritage despite the challenges. When I started Rajasthan Studio, I wanted to bring art lovers closer to the artists and regenerate value for the arts. In 2020, when the pandemic hit, this provided me with an opportunity to revamp and pivot to a digital/online space with Rooftop. This enterprise was a brainchild of long hours of work, tears, and a zeal to make Indian traditional arts mainstream again,” explains Kartik Gaggar, CEO & Founder, of Rooftop.

So how does it work? Rooftop works for art lovers and artists. It intends to connect the two and create revenue and value

for different art forms scattered around the country. Rooftop onboards artists and experts based on their level of skills and love for their craft. The team record either workshops or courses with them to then market the same to different target audiences ranging from simple art lovers to hardcore artists. They also have subscription plans for people who are passionate about learning and upskilling. “Subscription is a great way to consume art and courses are great as it also gives you a personal connection with the artist as it has more immersive depth. We have an art inspiration feature where we ask the artists questions about the art form, which can be consumed by anyone on the app,” says Gaggar.

The Rooftop team believes in being completely transparent with the artists and keeping an open, clear line of communication and work based on trust. “Our journey

to onboard artists for maestro courses is manifold. First, we create a list of all artists who have been practising the art for at least a decade if not more. Furthermore, we research their achievements and awards and based on the level of that we set up intensive meetings with them between the arts research team and me. I also make it a point to visit them at their homes to create a relationship that will put them at ease and help them understand Rooftop’s mission,” says Gaggar.

To ensure that they are putting out the best material, they have an in-house arts research team that works with the operations team to plan and structure the courses. They have set up a framework for their courses that they follow to create a standard process. There are four stages comprising the making of the maestro course –

research, pre-production planning, shooting the course and postproduction management. "Our core revenue comes from B2B and in the last 12 months, we have done workshops for corporates, for institutions as well as the Ministry of Culture, and about 80% of the revenue has come from there. From B2C we get money from workshop registrations and courses. Courses we assume will be one of the main revenue-generating sources. Award-winning artists who are part of courses make a royalty for life and in cases where there are multiple artists from the same family, we have bought that content because of that there are no issues. The Cheriyal family from Andhra Pradesh lived at different places, but we got the whole family together and we bought the content,” explains Gaggar.

The team has recently finished shooting Tibetan Thangka with Padmashree awardee Shri Wangchuk Bhutia. The next few courses that they plan to start researching are Kerala Mural and Kalamkari. The target groups include students, hobby artists, professional artists, art enthusiasts, art explorers like interior designers and architects and people who are just curious about art. Hobby artists get paid between ₹800 and ₹2000 and master artists get anywhere from ₹5000 to ₹20,000 and more but to be honest, the artists have never demanded that they be paid a specific amount."

Customer feedback and vendor feedback are important aspects that they consider. For someone who wants to try the app, they

"OVER THE LAST THREE YEARS, WE HAVE WORKED WITH OVER 2500 ARTISTS AND WE HAVE CREATED A SUPPLY OF ARTISTS WHO CAN GIVE ART COURSES IN INDIA SO WE KNOW WHOM WE CAN WORK WITH.

offer a free workshop and an option to upload their work on the community space where they can take feedback from others. “We are looking at creating engagement first. Over the last three years, we have worked with over 2500 artists and we have created a supply of artists who can give art courses in India so we know whom we can work with,” says Gaggar. The team is also planning to organise and host multiple offline art workshops and talks in different cities in India. Currently, they are looking at Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, and Bangalore to start the schedule.

Gaggar has robust plans for the app going forward. “We want to work towards enhancing user experience, expanding market reach, building a strong online community, improving data analytics and insights, exploring commercial opportunities, and generating trust and value among the artisan community. With blockchain technology coming into the whole art space and the world of NFTs, we are excited to see the possibilities for creators,” he concludes.

When it comes to visiting the Sun temples in India, Konark Sun Temple in Odisha, Martand Temple in Anantnag, Kashmir, and Modhera Sun Temple of Mehsana district, Gujarat make it to the forefront of every itinerary. Katarmal in Almora, Suryanar Kovil (also called Suryanar Temple) in Tamil Nadu and Osia in Rajasthan are also Surya mandirs (Sun temples). All these temples are not exemplary of engineering precisions but also intricate and elaborate stone carvings. In Gujarat, Modhera Sun Temple stands as an architectural marvel from the early 11th century. Modhera also finds mention in the ancient scriptures like Skanda Purana and Brahma Purana. Further, some folklores mention that Lord Rama performed a penance yagna here after killing Brahmin (Ravana). Manjulika Pramod lists some incredible facts and features about Gujarat’s Modhera Sun Temple and the period in which it was constructed.

SPLENDOURS OF MODHERA: EXPLORING INDIA'S SUN TEMPLE

1. It was built during the reign of King Bhimdeva-I of the Solanki Dynasty (Chaulukya dynasty), whose kingdom included parts of presentday Gujarat. He not only built the Modhera Sun temple and Dilwara temples but also reconstructed the Somnath temple which was razed down by Mahmud Ghazni. The Solanki dynasty was a Rajput dynasty of medieval India and the Solankies were also known as the descendants of the Sun. In Gujarat, one will find many architectural legacies of the 'Solanki' rulers. A UNESCO Heritage site, Rani ni Vav, a spectacular stepwell in Patan is attributed to his queen Udayamati.

2. Modhera was constructed around a year after Mahmud's invasion. Some historians have found a connection between the two incidents and proposed that the sun temple could have been built to commemorate the defence that a handful number of brave soldiers had put up in Modhera against Ghazni when he was advancing towards Somnath. Though the attempt of the soldiers was unsuccessful, it did not go unnoticed. The temple is made of sandstone and it hails the Maru-Gurjara Style of architecture, encompassing the boundless imagination and creative instincts of the workers who made it.

TRAVEL

3. The intricate carvings on the sandstone and the three main sections of the temple leave one enthralled and impressed with the artistry, engineering, and design skills of everyone that contributed to the making of it. First comes the water tank or the Surya Kund, which is adorned with steps made in amazing geometrical patterns. This is not just a tank but a very special one where the steps are full of small and big temples. Many of them are ruined now but each of them tells a story. Just next to the water tank is the Sabha Mandapa, an edifice of beauty followed by the main shrine, called Guda Mandapa, which once housed the idol of the Sun deity.

The Sabha Mandapa has four entrances and one can enter through any side. Here, you must look for the torans, the intricate Gujarati artwork at the entrance. At the centre is the walnut ceiling which is ruined but still stands gorgeous. This open on all sides’ structure was mainly meant for social and religious gatherings. The main shrine has only one entrance and inside, it is dark. It was made in a way so that the rays of the sun would reach the Sancto Sanctum, and light up the space.

4. The days of equinoxes hold special relevance here. The temple is designed in such a way that on the 21st of March and the 21st of September, the first rays of the Sun used to fall on the idol of the Sun God in Garbhagriha. Now, there is no idol and no prayers are held inside the temple. Also, there are 52 pillars inside the Sabha Mandapa, denoting the 52 weeks of a solar year. The carvings on the pillars are spectacular and they tell many tales from our mythology books like Ramayana, Mahabharata, etc. One must also look for the twelve representations of the Sun carved on the pillars depicting the 12 months of the year.

6. The ASI maintains the temple well so that travellers can visit, appreciate, and see a part of the magnificence that once existed here. Visitors travelling to Gujarat should plan a visit to this temple and if possible, must stay back to enjoy the solarpowered 3-D Projection mapping show and heritage lighting (light and sound show) at the temple postsunset. A cultural festival is also organized once a year. There is a museum complex too that can be explored to learn more about it.

5. Many mysteries fill the air in Modhera. One of them happens to be the existence of a closed underground path (tunnel) that potentially linked the Guda mandapa of the temple to Patan, the capital city of Solankis, but it has not been traced in its true form. If the temple still holds so much significance and is a treasure trove of stories, imagine how relevant it would have been in its heydays.

How to Reach the Temple?

Modhera is only 100 kilometres from the World Heritage City of Ahmedabad, 85 kilometres from Gandhinagar, and only 35 kilometres from Patan. If you start early from Ahmedabad, a day trip to Patan and Modhera is easily doable.

Pet Nutrition: Essential Guidelines for Optimal Health

When it comes to taking care of our beloved pets, providing them with proper nutrition is paramount. Just like humans, pets require a balanced diet to maintain good health and vitality. Dhanush Kumar will explore some essential guidelines and tips to ensure your pets receive the optimal nutrition they deserve.

Before embarking on the journey of providing good nutrition to your pets, it’s crucial to understand their unique dietary requirements. Dogs and cats have different nutritional needs, and factors such as age, breed, size, and activity level play a crucial role. Consult your veterinarian to determine the ideal diet for your pet.

Balanced Diet and Essential Nutrients

A balanced diet for pets should include essential nutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals. Proteins are crucial for muscle growth, and repair, while carbohydrates provide energy. Fats are also a source of energy and aid in nutrient absorption. Vitamins and minerals are also crucial for overall health.

Usually, high-quality commercial pet food comes with these essential nutrients in the right proportions. However, it is important to check the label and choose a good brand that meets the nutritional requirements recommended.

INDIA 62 July 2023

Selecting the right Pet Food

When it comes to choosing pet food, it is essential to opt for quality produ cts that align with your pet’s needs. Look for food labelled as complete and balanced as these meet the nutritional standards established by authorities. Consider the life stage and specific requirements of your pet.

Portion Control and Feeding Schedule

Supplements

Mostly high-quality pet food provides adequate nutrition, and some pets may benefit from supplements or treats. However, it is important to consult your Vet before introducing any new treats because some nutrients can be harmful in excess. Opt for healthy treat options or consider using a portion of your pet’s regular food as a reward during training sessions.

Maintaining a healthy weight is also crucial for a pet’s overall well-being. Overfeeding can lead to obesity and related health issues, while underfeeding can result in malnutrition. So follow the feeding guidelines provided by the pet food manufacturer and adjust the portions based on your pet’s age.

Established a constant feeding schedule to promote healthy eating habits and avoid leaving food out all day.
