Salm Kh

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is pulling out all the stops to promote his muchanticipated film, Sikandar. As a megastar known for delivering blockbuster hits, he takes a deep dive into the changing landscape of Bollywood, the pressures of stardom, and what makes Sikandar stand out. Packed with action, emotion, and a meaningful message, the film promises to strike a chord with audiences. In this candid exchange with Lipika Varma, he shares his thoughts with unfiltered honesty.

Excerpts-

What sets Sikandar apart, and what is its core message?

The film has a gripping emotional graph and an engaging story. The action and romance are wellbalanced, and while the film conveys a strong message, it does so subtly within the script. The story revolves around an individual who, regardless of his origin, rises to power and earns the title of a king. King kahin ka bhi ho, king hota hai. If a person wins people's hearts, he is acknowledged as a true leader. When you leave the theatre, you’ll feel that every element was well executed.

Do you consider yourself a self-made professional?

No one is truly self-made; success is always a team effort. If my father hadn’t moved from Indore to Mumbai, I would have been farming there. My grandfather was a renowned artist, Hindustan ke sabse bade kalakar thai. Because of him, my father got opportunities in the industry. My grandfather was a director, actor, and theatre artist and also served as the DIG of Police in Indore.

Are stars responsible for the current lull in the industry, and how much pressure do filmmakers face?

If bad films are made, including my own, they will flop. Since stars are the face of films, the blame naturally falls on them. Filmmakers, too, experience immense pressure. When a film succeeds, everyone is happy. But when it doesn’t, they come to us saying, Yaar, nuksan ho gaya. This is a business where losses and gains go hand in hand.

What’s your take on the trend of declaring films as hits, even if they fail at the box office?

I don’t believe in such practices. Naam lo jis jisne aisa kiya hai. You will never find me engaging in paid reviews or falsely labeling my films as hits. Once my job is done, I leave it to the audience to judge. From the first day of association with a film to its promotion, we give our best. Iss se zyada kya kar sakte hai?

Post-COVID, has theatre occupancy reduced?

Not at all. If that were the case, how did Animal, Jawan, and Pushpa cross 200 crores? If a film is good, those watching it on the first day will spread positive word-of-mouth,

which helps it succeed.

Why did films in the 90s perform better?

A successful film needs a complete package—the right emotions, love, and comedy. Today, people have shorter attention spans, so unless we connect with audiences instantly, they lose interest. Regardless of a film’s quality, audiences prefer watching movies in theatres with their families. We need to create films that resonate with them.

Why do today’s actors hesitate to do multi-hero films?

The younger generation seems

A successful film needs a complete package—the right emotions, love, and comedy. '' ''

insecure. I have offered films to them and even assured them of fair credit. [Smiles] Even when roles are equal, they hesitate to work together. During our time, we embraced two-hero and ensemble films, knowing that our fan bases would unite, boosting box office results. We even did guest appearances for each other, which strengthened friendships. Yeh foreign se padh ke aate hain, kabhi genre samajh mein nahi aata hai, kabhi kuch aur

Does the age of your co-stars matter to you?

Not at all. People may question me working with Janhvi [Kapoor] or Ananya [Pandya] due to our age gap, but I don’t see an issue. I will still work with them.

The Evolution of Indian Streetwear

India’s streetwear scene emerged late but has rapidly gained momentum. kincare Guide: S

Expert Tips to Prevent Aging & Sun Damage

From Sunscreen to Serums: The Best Anti-Aging Strategies for Summer

Dr Madhu Chopra, a renowned cosmetologist and the Managing Director of Studio Aesthetique, Mumbai, has been a pioneer in the field of aesthetic medicine. She is also the mother of actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas. With a strong medical background and years of expertise, she shares valuable insights on the latest trends in aesthetic medicine, effective skincare routines, and expert advice for maintaining healthy skin.

How can one prevent premature aging and sunspots during summer?

Protecting the skin from premature aging and sunspots requires a combination of sun protection and a targeted skincare routine. A broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen should be applied regularly, reapplication every two hours. Wearing protective clothing and seeking shade between 10 AM and 4 PM can further reduce UV exposure. Incorporating antioxidants like Vitamin C and E helps combat free radicals, while proper hydration maintains skin elasticity. Retinoids, niacinamide, and exfoliants aid in reducing sunspots and promoting skin cell renewal. A holistic skincare strategy, including sunblock, targeted treatments, and antioxidant-rich nutrition, helps maintain youthful and healthy skin.

What are the key anti-aging ingredients to include in a summer skincare routine?

A summer skincare routine should focus on protection, repair, and rejuvenation. Essential ingredients include-

• Sunscreen: SPF 50+ and PA+++ for broad-spectrum UV protection.

• Vitamin C: Antioxidant benefits that enhance collagen production and reduce pigmentation.

• Hyaluronic Acid: Provides deep hydration.

• Niacinamide: Strengthens the skin barrier, reduces wrinkles, and controls sebum production.

• Retinoids: Stimulate collagen formation and improve skin texture but require sun protection.

• Peptides: Enhance skin elasticity.

• Polyphenols & Coenzyme Q10: Offer antioxidant protection.

• Aloe Vera & Centella Asiatica: Soothe and calm the skin.

Dr Madhu Chopra

Can the use of excessive sunscreen clog pores or cause other skin concerns?

Sunscreen itself does not clog pores unless incorrect formulations or improper removal lead to breakouts, irritation, or dullness. People with oily or acne-prone skin should opt for non-comedogenic, gel-based, or mineral sunscreens containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Double cleansing—using an oil-based cleanser followed by a gentle face wash—ensures complete removal of sunscreen residue. Hydrating sunscreens with niacinamide or hyaluronic acid helps maintain skin balance while avoiding heavy chemical filters and fragrances and can prevent irritation.

What is the best way to reapply sunscreen without ruining makeup?

Reapplying sunscreen over makeup requires a gentle approach to maintain both sun protection and a flawless look. Use–

• Sunscreen mists: Lightweight SPF 50 sprays that can be applied without disturbing makeup.

• Powder sunscreens: Provide sun protection while reducing shine, ideal for oily skin.

• Stick or cushion sunscreens: Allow precise application without smudging the foundation.

• Blotting sheets: Remove excess

oil before reapplication for better absorption.

• SPF-infused primers, foundations, and setting sprays: Offer additional sun protection but should not replace regular sunscreen application.

Reapplying every two hours ensures continuous protection while keeping makeup fresh.

How does pollution combined with summer heat accelerate skin aging, and how can we combat it?

Pollution and summer heat accelerate aging by increasing oxidative stress, inflammation, and dehydration. Pollutants

generate free radicals that damage collagen, leading to wrinkles, sagging, and dull skin. Sweat, oil, and environmental toxins further clog pores, causing breakouts and weakening the skin barrier. Combat these effects by using antioxidants like Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Niacinamide to neutralize damage. Apply SPF 50+ sunscreen daily. Practicing double cleansing to remove pollutants effectively. Strengthen the skin barrier with ceramides and hyaluronic acid. Wear protective clothing and use air purifiers when possible. Exfoliate regularly with AHAs or BHAs to promote skin renewal.

Can Botox or fillers be affected by extreme heat and sun exposure?

Yes, Botox and fillers are sensitive to heat and sun exposure, especially in the first few days post-treatment. High temperatures increase blood flow, potentially shortening Botox's effectiveness, while sun exposure can cause inflammation and interfere with proper settling. To preserve results avoid heat and sun exposure for 48 hours after treatment. Refrain from intense exercise, saunas, and heat-based treatments. Use SPF 50 sunscreen and hydrating agents like aloe vera to reduce inflammation. Maintain long-term sun protection to prevent collagen breakdown and prolong the effects of fillers.

How can we protect the delicate skin around the eyes and lips during summer?

The eye and lip areas are highly sensitive and prone to sun damage and dehydration. Protection strategies include:

• Sunscreen for sensitive areas: Use an SPF-infused eye cream and UV-blocking sunglasses to prevent fine lines and wrinkles.

• Antioxidant-rich eye creams: Contain Vitamin C, peptides, and hyaluronic acid for hydration and protection.

• SPF 30+ lip balm shields lips from sunburn, especially for individuals with less melanin.

• Hydrating ingredients like shea butter and ceramides prevent dryness and improve moisture retention.

• Gentle exfoliation removes dead skin for better hydration penetration.

Are there any new nanotechnology sunscreens that offer better protection against blue light and UV damage?

Nanotechnology has revolutionized sunscreens by providing enhanced UV and blue light (HEV) protection with lightweight, transparent formulas. Nano-sized titanium dioxide and zinc oxide offer superior broad-spectrum protection without leaving a white cast. Antioxidantinfused formulations contain Vitamin C, Vitamin E, polyphenols, and iron oxide nanoparticles to neutralize free radicals and prevent blue light-induced

hyperpigmentation. Advanced delivery methods like nanolipid and liposomal technologies improve absorption, stability, and long-lasting effectiveness. These formulations are ideal for individuals with melasma or sensitive skin who require longlasting protection. Look for labels indicating HEV light protection or nano zinc/titanium dioxide for superior skin defense.

Glow, Not Grease: Skincare Tips for a Fresh Summer Look

Dr Trishna Gupte, Clinical Cosmetologist and Founder of Cosmo-Square Clinic and ISCA Institute shares expert insights on adapting skincare for different skin types, controlling sebum, choosing the right products, and avoiding common mistakes. Whether you have oily, dry, or combination skin, these dermatologist-approved tips will help you achieve a healthy, glowing complexion all summer long.

What are the biggest mistakes people make when switching to summer skincare?

The most common mistakes include failing to use a moisturizer properly, using harsh cleansing products that strip natural oils, neglecting sunscreen reapplication, and choosing the wrong products for humid conditions.

How should skincare routines differ in summer for oily, dry, and combination skin types?

Gel-based moisturizers with sunscreens designed to keep skin matte should be used by people with oily skin during hot summer months. To prevent dehydration, dry skin needs hydrating serums containing hyaluronic acid in addition to water-based moisturizers. The skincare routine for combination skin must balance hydration by using oil-free products on the T-zone while moisturizing dry areas.

What’s the best way to control excessive sebum production in hot weather?

A combination of gentle foaming cleansers containing salicylic acid and lightweight oil-free moisturizers, along with noncomedogenic sunscreens, enables sebum control without stripping moisture. Excessive shine reduction can be achieved through clay masks and blotting papers.

Can wearing too much foundation or heavy skincare products worsen breakouts in summer?

Yes, heavy foundations and occlusive skincare can trap sweat and oil, leading to clogged pores and breakouts. Lightweight, noncomedogenic formulations and mineral-based makeup are better alternatives for a fresh summer look.

Are thick moisturizers still necessary in summer, or can we skip them?

Due to increased humidity, thick moisturizers should be replaced with lightweight water-based products and gel formulations, which hydrate the skin without clogging pores.

What are the best hydrationboosting treatments for dry skin that won’t cause oiliness in summer?

The combination of hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and vitamin B5 in hydrating facials replenishes the skin without making it greasy. Lightweight serums provide deep hydration without clogging pores.

What ingredients should people with sensitive skin avoid during the summer?

Strong exfoliants with high AHA/ BHA levels, alcohol-based toners, and synthetic fragrances should be avoided, as they can increase sensitivity to sunlight and cause irritation. Opt for soothing ingredients like aloe vera and chamomile to calm irritated skin.

How can people with sensitive skin safely incorporate chemical peels into their summer skincare routine?

Opt for mild peels like lactic acid or mandelic acid, apply them in the evening, and always follow up with broad-spectrum sunscreen to prevent irritation and hyperpigmentation.

Dr Trishna Gupte

Common Skin Conditions That Worsen in Summer & Their Treatment

Increased heat, humidity, and sun exposure can trigger or worsen various skin conditions, from acne and eczema to sunburn and hyperpigmentation. Understanding the right treatments and preventive measures can help keep skin healthy and glowing. Dr Mehnaz Jahan shares expert advice on managing summer-related skin issues and the latest dermatological treatments.

What are some common skin conditions that worsen in summer, and how can they be treated?

Several skin conditions tend to worsen in summer due to increased sweat, humidity, and heat.

Acne – Excess oil production leads to clogged pores. Using noncomedogenic products, extractions, and laser therapy can help manage acne.

Eczema – Excessive sweating worsens eczema. Treatment includes using moisturizers, topical corticosteroids, oral antihistamines, avoiding scratching, and applying cool compresses. Wearing loose, breathable clothing is also

beneficial.

Seborrheic Dermatitis – Managed with medicated shampoos, antifungal treatments, and stress reduction techniques.

Heat Rashes – Staying in cool areas, wearing loose clothing, and using calamine lotion or powders can provide relief.

Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)

– Controlled using clinical antiperspirants, light breathable clothing, and Botox injections if required.

What is the best way to treat sunburns and prevent peeling?

Sunburn can exacerbate conditions like psoriasis. Effective treatments include applying cool compresses, moisturizing with aloe vera, avoiding peeling of dried-out skin, and staying hydrated. One can also use gentle exfoliants. Using topical corticosteroids and vitamin D analogs for psoriasis-related sunburns.

Can laser hair removal be done in summer?

Yes, laser hair removal is effective in summer, but precautions should be taken. Avoiding sun exposure before and after treatment helps minimize the risk of complications.

What’s the best way to manage body acne caused by sweat and friction?

To manage body acne, wear lightweight and breathable clothing. Shower immediately after exercising and use gentle cleansers. Use body washes and sprays specifically designed to reduce acne.

What are the latest laser treatments for hyperpigmentation that are safe to do during summer?

Several laser treatments are effective and safe for treating hyperpigmentation during summer, including Nd:YAG Laser, PicoSure Laser, RevLite Laser and GentleMax Pro Laser.

Dr Mehnaz Jahan

Best in-clinic treatments for summer

shares expert insights on the best in-clinic treatments for summer, the dos and don’ts of exfoliation, and how to safely achieve a radiant glow.

What in-clinic skin treatments should people opt for in summer, and which ones should they avoid?

Opt for hydrating treatments like HydraFacial, chemical peels, Fire & Ice facial, and IV therapies for inner hydration. Avoid excessive exfoliation, as it can lead to dryness and irritation.

Do laser and chemical peel treatments have different effects on the skin during summer?

Yes, they work differently, Chemical Peels exfoliate the outer skin layer and help with acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, sunspots, and age spots. They range from light to deep intensity and require some downtime. Laser Treatments use focused light beams to break down pigmented cells and treat hyperpigmentation.

Q-switch lasers – Nd YAG is used for pigmentation. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) lasers are for reducing sun damage. Fractional lasers (538 nm to 1064 nm) target deeper pigmentation. Pigmentation may darken initially before fading gradually, and lasers are safe for all skin types.

How do you recommend treating pigmentation that worsens due to sun exposure?

To treat pigmentation that worsens due to sun exposure, it is essential to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 50+ daily and wear sun-protective clothing to minimize direct exposure. Topical treatments such as retinoids, hydroquinone, vitamin C, azelaic acid, and kojic acid can help lighten pigmentation and even out skin tone. For more persistent cases, in-clinic procedures like chemical peels, microdermabrasion, IPL, and Q-switch laser treatments can effectively reduce pigmentation and improve skin clarity.

What role does Vitamin C play in skin brightening, and should it be used more in summer?

Vitamin C helps prevent heat rash by reducing sweat gland fatigue and enhances blood flow to the skin’s surface, promoting a healthy glow. It neutralizes free radicals caused by sun exposure, protecting the skin from damage. When combined with sunscreen, it boosts sun protection. Always perform a patch test before using vitamin C products to avoid sensitivity.

Can microneedling, PRP, or other treatments be done safely in hot months?

Yes, but only under a

dermatologist’s guidance. Post-care is crucial as these treatments have downtime. Sun exposure should be strictly avoided for 24-48 hours after the procedure.

Are there any recent innovations in skin-tightening treatments that work without downtime in hot weather?

Radio Frequency (RF) Therapy and High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) offer skin-tightening benefits without significant recovery time.

How does HydraFacial compare to new oxygen infusion facials, and which one is better for summer?

HydraFacial uses a patented device to cleanse, exfoliate, extract impurities, and hydrate the skin while Oxygen Infusion Facial delivers serums and nutrients using pressurized oxygen. Both treatments improve skin health, but HydraFacial provides deeper hydration, making it ideal for summer.

Nestled in the vibrant Caranzalem Circle of Panjim, Goa OITO stands out as a haven for food lovers seeking a contemporary approach to European dining with a dash of local flavour. Launched by the dynamic husbandwife duo of Chef Viraf Patel and Prakriti Lama Patel who have over 20 years of experience, this dining destination rewrites the rules of what a restaurant can be, blending artistry, innovation, and a deep respect for local ingredients. The menu emphasizes fresh seafood, especially crabs and crustaceans while also offering an extensive vegetarian selection.

DISCOVER OITO: Goa’s Bold Fusion of European FlavoursA New Culinary Chapter Unfolds in Goa

Walking into OITO, the first thing that strikes you is a huge wrap-around bar that seats 20 and draws inspiration from the sinuous beauty of octopus tentacles. It invites you in with its promise of impeccable drinks. The bar itself is a spectacle, with carefully displayed bottles that catch the light and beckon patrons to indulge in the curated cocktail menu. With double-height ceilings and walls of French windows, the natural light that floods the 100-seat dining room sets a tone of understated elegance. The mezzanine—an elevated, cloud-like space—offers 40 seats that cater to private events, intimate dinners, or even experimental pop-ups.

OITO’s culinary philosophy revolves around the perfect harmony of European techniques and Goan inspiration. This was evident in the dishes we sampled. We began with the Grapefruit & Pear Salad, a refreshing and flavourful salad that set the tone for the meal. The Hummus with Chubby Pita, the pita being a refined take on the Goan poee, was both tasty and comforting. The Exotic Mushroom Ajillo, featuring oyster, shiitake, and button mushrooms enhanced by garlic, lemon, chili, and coriander, was light yet delicious.

Next, we tried the Potato and Cheddar Rosti, a generously sized crispy potato pancake topped with a poached egg and gribiche sauce. This dish is hearty and perfect for sharing among three to four people. The Prawn Rissois stood out as one of the best we’ve ever had, with a hearty portion of prawn which is usually missing in rissois served in other places which is accompanied by a tangy sauce that elevates the dish further. The Lamb Meatballs were delicious, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavour, while the Oven-Baked Chonak was a simple yet exquisite celebration of the fish’s natural taste.

Chef Viraf Patel & Prakriti Lama

For something truly unique, the Colaba Crossroad Hummus offers a non - vegetarian twist on the classic, infused with the bold flavours of Goan chorizo. “This dish gets its name and inspiration from the Arab lane near Colaba crossroad in Mumbai where I used to stay earlier,” says Viraf Patel. Finally, the Prawn Ajillio was a standout, easily among the best dishes of the evening, perfectly balancing flavour and freshness using simple ingredients. “This is a 24-year-old recipe,” says the chef, and “local chilies from the Canacona region of Goa are used” he further cites.

Among the mains, the Braised Lamb Pappardelle was our absolute favourite. The lamb was tender and the flavours were just right, showcasing the chef’s expertise in balancing spices. The Homemade Pappardelle was perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of flavour to leave a lasting impression. The Capellini with Truffle was buttery and comforting, while the Potato Gnocchi provided a soft, pillowy texture that paired beautifully with its accompanying sauce. For seafood lovers, The Singapore Chili Crab Ravioli is a standout, marrying the sweetness of crab with bold, tangy flavours. The Whole Charcoal-Grilled Chonak, adorned with zesty oranges and fresh herbs, delivers a pure taste of the sea.

For dessert, we indulged in the Chocolate Mousse and the Matcha Green Tea-Misu, both of which were generously portioned and delicious. The Matcha Green Tea-Misu, in particular, was a unique and refreshing twist on a classic.

OITO’s cocktail offerings are just as impressive. The Goava, a refreshing gin cocktail with chili and kokum captures the essence of Goa’s coastal charm, while the Botanical Bloom, bursting with berries and basil pairs beautifully with seafood dishes. Among the gin-based cocktails, the Gentry stood out, served charmingly in tea cups with delicate flowers. The Spiced Agave Highball, a tequila-based drink, delivers a perfectly balanced kick, while whiskey lovers will relish the Old Banana and Spout Cinnamon. The Spout Cinnamon, made with homemade cinnamon and apple cordial, was a warm and inviting blend that exemplified the bar’s creativity.

One of the most impressive aspects of OITO is its extensive menu, which caters to a wide range of tastes. Whether you’re a vegetarian, a seafood enthusiast, or a meat lover, you’ll find plenty of options that showcase the best of local and international flavours. The variety ensures that there’s something to delight every palate, making it an ideal destination for diverse groups.

What sets OITO apart is its dedication to creativity and community. The mezzanine level doubles as an innovation lab where visiting chefs and mixologists can collaborate to push culinary boundaries. Near the entrance, a stage for live performances adds an extra dimension to the experience, blending music and dining in a way that feels organic and unobtrusive. Whether you’re enjoying a quiet meal or celebrating a special occasion, OITO offers a dining experience that feels both luxurious and approachable.

Goa Reinvented: A Culinary Journey Enhanced with New Japanese Creations

Founded by Chef Nooresha Kably, the restaurant has been a go-to for classics like sushi and ramen. Now, with the recent addition of Chef Raffael Kably, Izumi has introduced a series of new dishes to its existing menu. Inspired by their recent travels to Japan, these creations add a fresh, innovative touch while staying true to the restaurant’s roots. The chef’s approach is rooted in authenticity but not afraid to experiment, resulting in dishes that excite the palate and pay homage to the classics Izumi was loved for.

The new offerings are a revelation. Traditional sushi lovers need not worry – the sushi remains stellar but with inventive additions. We began our meal with the Ohitashi Tomato & Crispy Tofu Salad, a vibrant mix of lotus root, snow peas, and white onion, all brought to life with a zesty yuzu dressing. Refreshing and light, this salad felt like a reinvention of a classic, offering a delightful start to our meal.

Next came the Avocado Tartare with Corn Cream, a dish that balanced flavours and textures beautifully. Its creamy, soothing taste lingered on the palate, making it an instant favourite.

Chef Nooresha Kably

From the vegetable robata grills, the Dashi Red Bell Pepper with Maple Butter and Aubergine with Shiraae stood out. Despite their simplicity in appearance, both dishes were bursting with flavour, perfectly cooked, and served as two sticks – a must-try for anyone exploring this section.

From the non-veg robata grill, the Chicken with Sansho Emulsion was a standout. Juicy, tender, and paired with a perfectly balanced misoreni sauce, it was one of the most succulent pieces of chicken I have ever had.

Chef Nooresha and Chef Raffael’s travels influenced the mains most delightfully. The Sapporo Soup Curry is a prime example, inspired by the chef’s experience in Sapporo, where lamb was used in a broth. “It blew our minds,” says Chef Raffael, and this dish, with its authentic flavours, does exactly that for diners.

The Spicy Miso & Sesame Chonak, made with locally sourced fish, was another standout. The perfectly cooked Chonak paired with seasoned rice highlighted both the dish’s traditional Japanese roots and its Goan essence.

For vegetarians, the Shoyu Chintan Ramen is a must-try. Featuring flavourful konbu, shiitake, and soy broth, this comforting bowl of noodles, tofu, and vegetables is both hearty and delicious, with an optional spicy twist.

For seafood lovers, the Prawn Okonomiyaki is a revelation. This savoury pancake, made with prawns, cabbage, and pickled ginger, is topped with a rich sauce, Japanese mayo, and bonito flakes. The dish delivers an authentic oceanic taste, staying true to traditional Japanese techniques.

In the small plates section, the Camembert Cheese Sticks with Cranberry Sauce stole the show. The interplay of creamy cheese with the tart sweetness of cranberry created a flavour that was both comforting and indulgent. It’s a dish worth returning for.

The drinks menu at Izumi remains unchanged, retaining its charm with a selection of expertly crafted cocktails. We sampled two of their crowdfavourite classics, and they didn’t disappoint.

The Kill Bill, a tequila-based drink, delivered on its promise of being spicy, zesty, and smoky – a perfect profile for those seeking bold flavours. Meanwhile, the Imperial Bee’s Knees, a gin-based cocktail, was bubbly and refreshing, making it an ideal companion to the diverse dishes on the menu.

Izumi’s commitment to excellence extends beyond the food, ensuring that the drink pairings enhance the overall dining experience.

Izumi’s tranquil vibe remains intact, with its minimalist decor, warm wood accents, and soft lighting that evoke a Zen-like calm. It’s the perfect backdrop for the culinary journey that awaits.

Izumi’s new offerings are a game-changer, taking an already beloved restaurant to greater heights. The new offerings not only pay homage to classic Japanese flavours but also introduce bold, innovative twists that elevate the dining experience.

Whether you’re a long-time patron or a first-time visitor, Izumi’s updated menu is an invitation to rediscover the magic of Japanese cuisine, now elevated and reimagined in the heart of Assagao.

TOP 10 MUST-HAVE PET PRODUCTS FOR SUMMER

Cooling Mat

A cooling mat is an essential summer accessory for pets. These mats are pressureactivated, meaning they begin to cool as soon as your pet lies down on them. They provide relief from overheating and help regulate body temperature. Many cooling mats require no refrigeration or electricity, making them an easy and effective way to help pets stay cool indoors and outdoors.

Just like humans, pets can get sunburned, especially those with light-coloured fur or short coats. Pet-safe sunscreens protect sensitive areas such as the nose, ears, and belly from harmful UV rays. It’s crucial to choose a sunscreen specifically formulated for pets, as human sunscreens contain ingredients that can be toxic to animals.

Cooling Vest

Staying hydrated is crucial for pets during the summer months. A portable water bottle with a built-in dispenser is a convenient way to ensure your pet has access to fresh water during walks, hikes, or car rides. These bottles are designed with easy-to-use spouts that allow pets to drink without wasting water.

For pets that enjoy outdoor activities, a cooling vest is a game-changer. These vests work by absorbing water and slowly evaporating to provide a cooling effect. They help keep your pet’s body temperature stable and prevent overheating. Cooling vests are especially beneficial for brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds like Bulldogs and Pugs, who are more prone to heat-related issues.

Pet Sunscreen
Portable Water Bottle & Dispenser

Pavements and sidewalks can become dangerously hot in the summer, causing burns on your pet’s paw pads. A paw protection balm creates a protective barrier, shielding their feet from hot surfaces. It also helps keep their paws moisturized and prevents cracking or dryness. Alternatively, pet-friendly booties can be used for extra protection.

A raised pet bed with a mesh surface promotes air circulation, keeping pets cool while they rest. Unlike traditional beds that can trap heat, these breathable summer beds help prevent overheating. They are ideal for both indoor and outdoor use, providing a comfortable resting spot for pets during warm weather.

Shade Canopy or Tent Cooling Bandana

For pets that spend time outdoors, a shade canopy or tent provides essential sun protection. Whether at the beach, backyard, or camping, these portable shelters create a cool and shaded space, reducing the risk of heat exhaustion. Many canopies are designed with UV-resistant fabric to further protect pets from harsh sun exposure.

A cooling bandana is another simple yet effective way to keep pets cool. These bandanas are soaked in cold water, and as the water evaporates, they provide a cooling effect around the pet’s neck. Lightweight and comfortable, cooling bandanas are great for walks, playtime, or any outdoor adventures.

Pets love cool treats in the summer! Frozen treat moulds allow you to make homemade popsicles using pet-safe ingredients like yogurt, peanut butter, and fruits. Lick mats can be smeared with frozen treats to keep pets entertained while helping them cool down. These treats not only provide relief from the heat but also offer mental stimulation.

Flea & Tick Preventatives

Summer brings an increase in fleas and ticks, which can cause skin irritation and transmit diseases. Using flea and tick preventatives such as spot-on treatments, collars, or oral medications is essential to keep pests away. Regular grooming and checking for ticks after outdoor activities are also crucial to maintaining your pet’s health during the season.

Good Ventilation is essential to maintaining a fresh and cool environment. Cross ventilation, where windows on opposite sides of a room are open, allows air to flow freely and prevents heat buildup. Installing exhaust fans in kitchens and bathrooms can also help in expelling warm air.

Excessive sunlight streaming into your home can significantly increase indoor temperatures. Install blinds or curtains made from heat-resistant materials to block out harsh sunlight during peak hours. Light-colored blinds reflect heat, keeping your interiors cooler.

Heavy fabrics trap heat and make indoor spaces feel warmer. Opt for breathable, natural fabrics like cotton or linen for curtains, bedsheets, and upholstery. These materials enhance air circulation and absorb less heat, making your home feel cooler.

Roofs absorb a significant amount of heat, transferring it inside your home. Treat your roof by applying reflective coatings, using white or lightcolored tiles, or installing rooftop gardens. Green roofs not only insulate your home but also improve air quality.

Color can impact the temperature perception of a space. Incorporate cool colors such as pastel blues, greens, and whites to create a soothing effect. These colors reflect light instead of absorbing it, contributing to a naturally cooler environment.

Dark-colored walls absorb heat, making rooms feel warmer. Get smart with wall paint by choosing heatreflective or light shades to maintain a comfortable temperature. Eco-friendly, heat-resistant paints can further enhance cooling efficiency.

Plants play a vital role in maintaining a cool indoor climate. Bring in greenery by placing potted plants indoors or creating a vertical garden. Plants like aloe Vera, snake plants, and peace lilies improve air circulation and absorb heat, keeping your home fresh and comfortable. By implementing these home cooling hacks, you can beat the heat effectively without excessive reliance on air conditioning. A well-ventilated, thoughtfully designed home with natural elements ensures comfort while reducing energy consumption. Make small changes today and experience the cooling benefits of a natural-friendly home.
