From the E DITOR

There’s something I’ve learned the hard way: illness doesn’t just arrive at your doorstep one morning. It builds slowly, quietly—through sleepless nights, skipped meals, buried emotions, and the constant hum of stress we’ve taught ourselves to ignore.

that celebration can be beautiful and nourishing.
This season, I invite you to be gentler— with your body, your mind, and your expectations. Health isn’t just the absence of illness. It’s the presence of balance, joy, and self-compassion. Let’s not wait for tomorrow to start living well.
This Festive Season, Choose Calm Over Chaos Sinduri Vuppala
Recently, someone I care about suffered a health scare. Nothing too dramatic, thankfully, but enough for the doctor to start suggesting tests— Pap smears, scans, screenings. That word kept coming up: stress. And I couldn’t help but think—how is it that something so common, so casually thrown into conversation, is also something we’re never really taught to manage?
We tend to look outward—at circumstances, other people, even astrology—for answers. But the truth is, so much of our well-being begins with how we respond to life. The taxi is late. Your haircut went wrong. The dinner you cooked didn’t turn out right. These are small things, but they pile up. And slowly, they chip away at us. We can’t always control what happens, but we can learn to soften our reactions. To let go a little more. To hold space for calm.
As the festive season approaches, I know this time can feel like a double-edged sword. While many are celebrating, others feel overwhelmed by the pressure to host, perform, or pretend they’re okay. If that’s you— breathe. It’s okay not to do it all. Joy doesn’t have to be loud. Peace doesn’t have to be perfect.
In this issue, we sit down with the luminous Tripti Dimri and the evergrounded R. Madhavan, who both open up about navigating success, failure, and the quiet strength that comes from within. You’ll also find handpicked Rakhi gifts, jewellery trends, and festive recipes from food bloggers and clean-eating brands that understand

& Inter-Caste Love Negative Roles Tripti Dimri on Dhadak 2,

Tripti Dimri made her debut as a leading lady in Laila Majnu (2018) and received critical acclaim for her work in Anvita Dutt’s Bulbbul (2020) and Qala (2022). She rose to fame with her scene-stealing role in the blockbuster Animal (2023) and is now one of the most talked-about names in the industry. With Dhadak 2 on the way and her recent casting in Spirit—a role that was initially set for Deepika Padukone, Tripti is clearly on a career high. In conversation with Lipika Varma, Tripti talks about her upcoming films, social change through cinema, and her desire to play complex, layered roles.

Excerpts:
How do you feel about starring in Dhadak 2? Does doing a sequel bring added pressure?
I think, if you don't take that pressure, but perform with full honesty and trust in your director and your team, that's when magic happens. And I think that's what Siddhanth and I and everybody else did on this project. So, we made sure not to take any pressure and just take each day as it comes.
What were your inputs to the character in terms of improvisation, intensity, and spontaneity?
It was a collaborative work. Every day was different. We would rehearse the scenes and then just play off each other. Siddhant has been a wonderful actor. There were a lot of scenes that were based on his reaction, even though you didn’t plan it that way. Because acting is all about reacting. The way you interact with someone day to day, naturally, your expressions come out to the best of your abilities. So, that is what happened. I think I was lucky to have good actors in this film. Everybody is just brilliant. I am happy that my director, Shazia Iqbal, was ready to take over. She was not restricted. She was very open to new ideas and suggestions, and that's why we felt free as actors.
The film explores inter-caste marriages. What is your take on it, now and in previous times?
I haven't seen it, but I have heard stories about it in my childhood. Of course, it happens. My character says it in the film. It happens on an extreme level in some places, while in other places it happens on a subtle level. We ignore it, we say it is normal.
I heard stories from people I know that someone was getting married. But the family didn't go because it was an inter-caste marriage. At that time, we didn't even question it. That it wouldn't be allowed. We used to leave it. But today, we question it. Why wouldn't it be allowed? What is wrong with it?

I think I was lucky to have good actors in this film. Everybody is just brilliant. I am happy that my director, Shazia Iqbal, was ready to take over. She was not restricted. She was very open to new ideas and suggestions, and that's why we felt free as actors.
Films are considered to be the mirror of society. Dhadak 2 is a sensitive love story. What kind of a change or improvement can it bring about?
Films can bring improvement. Films are a form of emotional education. But whether to improve or not, it's up to you. Some people get so much inspiration from the stories that they feel that if this person can do it, why can't I do it? But these are all choices, and it depends on person to person. It's not about improving, it’s about adapting and understanding. Films are a way to show you new things. Films introduce you to a new world. Improving or not is a personal choice.
Would you play a negative character role, like Shah Rukh Khan did in Darr or Kajol did in Gupt?
Yes, Kajol performed brilliantly in Gupt. It would be great if I got something like that. People don’t consider negative roles as villains. In the past, negative roles were written separately. The category was different. But now, anyone can do it. If you can play the role of a negative character, like the one who played a negative character in our film, that boy is such a simple and decent person. It doesn't seem like he can look at anyone. That's when you feel as an actor proud of another person. I think I would want that for myself. I will learn something new. I will get to explore something new.

Films can bring improvement. Films are a form of emotional education. But whether to improve or not, it's up to you.

Eat Right
Nutreat
Hyderabad-based Nutreat was born in 2014 out of a personal need to provide clean, wholesome food for the founder's son. Over time, this evolved into a deeper mission: to craft handmade, customised nutrition rooted in ancestral Indian food wisdom. "We handcraft each product using our signature four-step process—sprouting, sundrying, slow roasting, and stone grinding—and tailor it to the individual’s age, health condition, and dietary needs. Nutreat promotes clean eating not just by avoiding processed ingredients, but by ensuring every spoonful is mindfully made and consciously consumed. In 2023, when our business was at its peak—with franchise opportunities, foreign collaborations, and incubation

Clean eating is no longer a fad but a necessity in the times we live in, and several startups are making sure this is a choice that is easy to make. As people take charge of their health and wellbeing, eating clean is one of the most important priorities. Bindu Gopal Rao features seven startups that are helping make this change, one plate at a time.

offers—we made a bold decision. We stepped back. We refused to bulk produce because it was creating false demand, pressuring both our team and consumers to buy more than they needed. That turning point reaffirmed our belief in #nooverbuying and #consciousconsumerism. Clean eating, we believe, must also be mindful—free of waste, hype, or excess. While the wellness industry grows, we often see food wastage even in the name of healthy eating. Our model of customisation ensures that we make only what’s needed, drastically reducing waste while offering personalised nutrition," says Jyothi Sri Pappu, Founder & CEO, Nutreat. Moving forward, their goal is to scale impact, not volume, by nurturing conscious consumers, supporting women artisans, and creating a food culture rooted in purpose.

Swasthya Ahaara primarily targets busy professionals, healthconscious individuals, parents, and corporate offices, making nutritious food accessible via simple WhatsApp or phone orders. It also fills key market gaps by offering balanced Indian thalis (with adequate protein and fibre),

Swa Artisanal Syrups

Swa was founded in 2019 in Bengaluru with a simple yet powerful mission–to create more natural, flavour-forward beverages using India’s own rich and diverse produce. At the time, the mixer and syrup space were crowded with imported or overly processed products, often packed with artificial additives and excessive sugar. “It raised an important question: why were we relying on synthetic, imported options when we had such an abundance of homegrown ingredients waiting
to be celebrated and crafted into something better? Swa began as a small-batch venture rooted in real ingredients, fruits, herbs, spices, and botanicals, all with zero artificial flavours, colours, or preservatives. Every fruit-based syrup contains a minimum of 40% fruit pulp, about 8x more than most commercial options, and is made with up to 65% less added sugar than conventional brands. “Swa” represents “our true self”—a name rooted in authenticity and purity. It embodies four key values at the
Crèmeitalia Foods Pvt. Ltd.
Crèmeitalia is redefining the way India experiences cheese. Founded in 2018 in Mumbai by Prateek Mittal and Rajas Dhote, the brand emerged from a simple yet bold idea to make fresh, high-quality Italian-style cheese locally for an audience ready to move beyond processed dairy. Today, it stands as one of India’s most exciting clean-label success stories in the modern dairy space. Tapping into a growing appetite for elevated yet accessible ingredients, Crèmeitalia’s portfolio includes Burrata, Bocconcini, Natural Cream Cheese, and a newly launched range of flavoured cream cheeses from Jalapeño and Korean Chilli to Garlic & Herb.

Wholsum Foods, parent company of Slurrp Farm and Mille

Delhi-based Wholsum Foods began in 2016 from a deeply personal place. “As mothers, both of us were constantly on the lookout for food we could say ‘yes’ to—something genuinely nutritious, easy to make, and, most importantly, delicious. When we couldn’t find it, we rolled up our sleeves and created it, starting with Slurrp Farm. Clean eating isn’t a trend for us; it’s how we feed our own children. Every product we make uses ingredients like millets, lentils, and oats—ingredients that have nourished generations but were slowly disappearing from our
Eat Clean with Eshanka
“If you control what you eat, you can control anything,” says Eshanka Wahi, a culinary nutritionist, wellness coach, entrepreneur, and founder of Eat Clean with Eshanka, Delhi & Dubai. She launched in 2020 with a deep personal commitment towards wellness, clean eating, and conscious living, and it was the time when the world was slowing down, and wellness took centre stage. “Amidst lockdowns and uncertainty, our virtual wellness and culinary nutrition classes became a lifeline for many. From immunityboosting recipes to plant-based detox workshops, clients engaged wholeheartedly, eager not just to learn but to transform the way they lived and ate. As a wellness coach and culinary nutritionist, I strongly believe that eating healthy is the strongest form of self-respect,” she says.
plates. We wanted to bring them back in formats that fit today’s busy lives,” say Meghana Narayan & Shauravi Malik, co-founders of Wholsum Foods, parent company of Slurrp Farm and Mille.
Over time, the duo realised that their products were resonating beyond young children with adults, families, and anyone trying to eat better without giving up on taste. That inspired the launch of Mille, their second brand under Wholsum Foods, built on the same milletforward philosophy but designed
for grown-up nutritional needs. Looking ahead, this year is all about deepening their presence and innovating with purpose. They are focused on Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, where awareness around food labels and healthier choices is growing rapidly. “We’re also expanding our portfolio to include more ready-to-cook and convenient snacking options for busy households, along with products that meet the evolving nutritional needs of toddlers and school-age children. And with digital channels scaling fast, we’re doubling down on quick commerce and e-commerce to make clean, nourishing, and yummy food more accessible than ever,” say the duo.

They have recently introduced various thoughtfully curated wellness products that are 100% organic and elevate everyday health. The lineup includes
anti-inflammatory tea, organic homegrown dates, date caramel paste, golden elixir, Kashmiri shilajit, dates balsamic vinegar, and organic moringa powder, each product rooted in nature and backed by holistic nutrition principles that promote digestion, improve gut health, support the immune system, and overall health.

FROM LAW TO WELLNESS:
From law to fitness and now nutrition— what inspired this pivot to launching The Func Lab?
Honestly, I’ve never seen it as a pivot. For me, it’s been an evolution. I started in law because it was the “safe” thing to do. But over time, I realized it didn’t light me up. Fitness came in as something that felt real and meaningful. When I started SOHFIT, it was never about six-packs—it was about helping people move better, feel stronger, and live fuller lives.
The Func Lab is just a continuation of that mission. I saw firsthand how many people were doing the training, showing up, but still not recovering well or getting results— because their nutrition was broken. There was a lot of confusion and even more compromise in the supplement space. I knew we could do better. So, we built it.
How did your experience building SOHFIT inform your approach to creating a product-based wellness brand?
SOHFIT taught me that people don’t want to be complicated. They want guidance they can trust, routines that work, and things that actually make them feel good. That mindset shaped everything about The Func Lab. Instead of chasing trends, we asked: “What does the average person actually need to support a sustainable fitness lifestyle?” The answer was clean, effective, no-jargon products that work for real life. It’s the same philosophy—just a different medium.

Sohrab Khushrushahi’s Journey to Building India’s Cleanest Nutrition Brand

Sohrab Khushrushahi (Right) Founder of SOHFIT and celebrity fitness coach.

A lot of supplements are built for margins, not for people. And you can tell. They’re filled with sugar, gums, artificial crap, or dosed so low they’re basically just marketing.
What gaps or frustrations in the current supplement industry motivated you to start The Func Lab?
The biggest frustration? Lack of transparency. I’d pick up a product and half the label would be things I didn’t understand—or worse, things that shouldn’t be there at all.
A lot of supplements are built for margins, not for people. And you can tell. They’re filled with sugar, gums, artificial crap, or dosed so low they’re basically just marketing. We wanted to flip that—build formulas with intention, label them honestly, and dose them in a way that makes a difference.
Tell us about your co-founders—how did you come together, and what strengths do each of you bring to the table?
The Func Lab wouldn’t exist without the three of us. I bring the fitness and real-world understanding of what people need from performance nutrition.
Sahil is our manufacturing and operations backbone—he knows the food space inside out and ensures that everything we do is world-class in quality and consistency.
Tashya is the brand and business mind. She knows how to craft messaging, build community, and make sure our voice cuts through the noise. We’re very different, but that’s what works. We each stay in our lane, but the mission is shared— and that alignment is everything.
What does “clean-label performance nutrition” mean to you—and how are you delivering on that promise?
To me, it means no BS. No fillers, no gums, no artificial flavouring, no fluff. Every single ingredient has to earn its place in the formula.
Clean-label also means clear communication— we’re not hiding behind “proprietary blends” or sneaky additives. You know exactly what you’re putting into your body.
And performance? That’s non-negotiable. We don’t just want it to taste good—we want it to support your training, recovery, energy, gut health—whatever the function is.
What sets The Func Lab apart from the flood of wellness and supplement brands in the Indian market?
We’re not here to sell you dreams. We’re here to solve problems.
Most brands start with, “What’s trending right now?” We started with, “What’s missing?”
Our Plant Protein has a real 86% protein-toscoop ratio—which is nearly unheard of. Our Electrolytes give you 1000mg sodium—because that’s what actually helps you recover.
And beyond products, we’re building trust. From the packaging to the customer service— we treat our audience with respect. That’s the differentiator.

You’ve trained celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Kiara Advani, and Mira Kapoor—how did those relationships begin?
They started like any other client relationship— word of mouth, someone reaching out, or being referred through a friend.
But what matters more than the “how” is the “why” they stayed. We connected on shared values—commitment, clarity, and honesty. I didn’t treat them like celebrities; I treated them like people trying to do the work. And that mutual respect built strong bonds over time.
Are there any memorable behind-thescenes stories or transformations you’re particularly proud of?
There are lots, but the ones I cherish most are often the smallest wins. Seeing someone get through a full-body push-up for the first time after weeks of work. Watching a client who came in underconfident walk out six months later owning their space.
With the public names, it’s not just about the transformations you see on screen. It’s the discipline off-camera, the grind when no one’s watching. That’s what I respect the most.
Has your approach to training or nutrition evolved after working with such diverse personalities—from actors to athletes?
Absolutely. It made me realize that no two bodies—or goals—are the same. The one-sizefits-all model doesn’t work.
It also taught me the importance of recovery, mental health, and lifestyle habits. For someone working 14-hour days on set, the training plan looks very different from that for an athlete in pre-season.
The core principles haven’t changed— consistency, intentionality, patience—but the execution always adapts to the person.
What does a typical day in your life look like now, balancing coaching, business-building, and your own wellness?
No two days are the same, but I try to anchor each day with a few non-negotiables—a solid workout, at least one deep work session, and some time to disconnect.
Mornings usually start early—some form of movement, then calls or meetings with the Func Lab team. Midday I try to carve out time for product reviews or strategy. Evenings are family time or a walk to decompress.
It’s a juggle, for sure. But the key is knowing when to go hard and when to slow down.
Quick Takes
One supplement trend you think is totally overrated.
Collagen gummies with fairy dust doses and no supporting nutrients. If it’s not backed by the right science—or enough of it—it’s just sugar in disguise.
Your go-to recovery snack after a hard workout?
A scoop of our Plant Protein in water + a banana. Simple. Effective. No frills.
Your go-to recovery snack after a hard workout?
A scoop of our Plant Protein in water + a banana. Simple. Effective. No frills.
If you had to describe The Func Lab in one sentence, what would you say?
Function-first nutrition with no fluff—built for those who want to feel and perform better.

As the festive season arrives, it’s easy to get swept up in the celebration—and sometimes, overdo it. Between rich sweets, back-to-back parties, and emotional highs (and lows), maintaining your health— both physical and emotional—can become challenging.
Sinduri Vuppala speaks to two experts—Dietician Vidhi Chawla, Founder of FISICO Diet & Aesthetic Clinic, and Rajvir Kohar, a seasoned Mental Health Clinician—to bring you a guide on how to eat mindfully and feel emotionally balanced this season.

While cultural celebrations and holidays offer opportunities for connections and joy, they also come with increased expectations and responsibilities. Research indicates that mental health symptoms such as stress, anxiety, disrupted sleep, and emotional eating often rise during the festive season. Many individuals experience heightened stress around the holidays, primarily due to factors such as financial strain, time pressures, and family dynamics.
Financial challenges can be particularly overwhelming, as people feel the burden of purchasing gifts, hosting gatherings, and keeping up with social expectations. For individuals already managing financial constraints, these demands can deepen feelings of inadequacy or guilt.
Additionally, the festive season can bring emotional pain for those grieving the loss of a loved one. Others may experience a profound sense of loneliness, especially if they lack close family or social networks, making the celebratory atmosphere feel isolating rather than inclusive.
Common mental health symptoms during this period include disturbed sleep, changes in appetite (either overeating or under-eating), increased irritability, fatigue, and social withdrawal. While these feelings are common, they often go unnoticed amidst societal expectations to “stay cheerful.”
Despite these challenges, it is possible to approach the festive season with mindfulness and care.
It’s okay not to feel festive. Honour your emotions
"

Rajvir Kohar, Mental Health Clinician
By adopting practical strategies, you can protect your mental health and still engage in meaningful celebrations.
One can plan and enjoy all the festivities by practising mindfulness techniques listed below: -
1. Planning your commitments in advance—whether it’s budgeting for expenses, organising your schedule, or preparing meals—can alleviate last-minute stress. Thoughtful preparation allows you to feel more in control, making it easier to enjoy events without feeling overwhelmed. If certain traditions or social engagements feel too demanding, consider simplifying them or asking for support.
2. Set Realistic Festive Goals/ Don’t go overboard with the celebrations–Social platforms often create unrealistic portrayals of perfect celebrations, setting people up for disappointment. Remind yourself that festivities don’t need to be grand or flawless to be meaningful. Setting realistic expectations allows you the room for flexibility and reduces the pressure to meet unattainable standards.
3. Prioritise Yourself–While it is equally important to connect with people, it is equally essential to respect your own limits. It’s okay to decline invitations or step back from events that make you feel emotionally drained. Communicating your boundaries ensures you preserve your emotional energy while still maintaining relationships.
4. Small Steps to feel less isolated-Feelings of isolation can be mitigated by reaching out to friends, neighbours, or community groups. Even brief interactions, such as a phone call or participating in a local event, can foster a sense of connection. If in-person gatherings aren’t feasible, virtual meet-ups or acts of kindness— like volunteering—can provide emotional support and purpose.
5. Stay Active- Staying active during the holidays not only benefits physical health but also improves mood and reduces stress. Simple activities like walking, stretching, dancing, or playing games with family can uplift your spirits. Exercise stimulates endorphins, which naturally enhance emotional wellbeing.
6. Practice mindful eating- Festive treats are a special part of celebrations, but mindful eating is key. Listen to your body’s cues, avoid emotional eating, and aim for balanced meals that include proteins, vegetables, and whole foods. Staying hydrated is equally important, as dehydration can lead to fatigue and irritability. Consider limiting alcohol intake, as excessive drinking can lower inhibitions and exacerbate feelings of sadness or anxiety. Choosing non-alcoholic alternatives or alternating alcoholic drinks with water can help you stay present and in control.
7. Seek Help from Therapist- Perhaps the most vital step is recognising when to seek support. If feelings of sadness, anxiety, or emotional exhaustion become overwhelming, reaching out to a mental health professional can provide necessary guidance and relief. Helplines, counselling services, and support groups are valuable resources, and seeking help is a sign of selfawareness and strength.

Remember, it’s perfectly okay for your way of celebrating to look different from others. What matters most is honouring your needs and moving through the season at a pace that feels right for you.

According to Vidhi Chawla, the festive season doesn’t have to mean bloating, fatigue, or post-party guilt. Her approach is all about balance, not restriction.
• Practice moderation: Enjoy sweets and rich dishes, but in small, satisfying portions.
• Hydrate wisely: A glass of water before meals can curb cravings and prevent overeating.

You don’t have to deprive yourself to stay healthy.
– Dietician Vidhi Chawla " "
• Snack smart: Don’t arrive hungry at a party. A fruit or handful of nuts beforehand helps.
• Choose nutrient-rich options: Fill half your plate with salads or proteins before sampling festive treats.
• Eat mindfully: Chew slowly, savour the flavours, and stop when you’re full.
• Stay active: Even light activity like walking after meals can support digestion and lift your mood.

Dr Vidhi , Founder of FISICO Diet & Aesthetic Clinic
Vidhi encourages mindful celebration: “You can absolutely enjoy laddoos or biryani. Just don’t forget to listen to your body.”

With over 35 million pet dogs and 5 million pet cats, India’s pet population is substantial and growing. The pet care market is projected to reach Rs 10,000 crore by 2025, from Rs 4,000 crore in 2020. These devices are particularly useful for working professionals and students who spend extended periods away from home.

The future of pet technology in India is promising, with several innovations on the horizon:
• AI-powered Health Monitoring: Wearable devices that track vital signs, activity levels, and behavioural patterns, enabling early detection of health issues.

• Mobile Apps: Platforms like Happypet that assist in tracking pet wellbeing, scheduling appointments, and managing health records.
These advancements aim to make pet care more efficient and personalised.

"I FEEL THIS IS THE BEST YEAR OF MY CAREER." - R Madhavan
R. Madhavan is back in the spotlight with Aap Jaisa Koi, a heartwarming family drama that explores love, loneliness, and rediscovery in life’s quieter chapters. As Shrirenu Tripathi—a quiet, 42-year-old man who unexpectedly rediscovers love and himself—Madhavan delivers one of his most layered performances yet. Directed by Vivek Soni and co-starring Fatima Sana Shaikh, the film explores emotional vulnerability, second chances, and the beauty of finding
In a candid chat with , Madhavan opens up about the film, love, ageing, and his evolving journey as an actor.
Excerpts-
What drew you to Aap Jaisa Koi, and what was it like playing Shrirenu?
Aap Jaisa Koi is unlike any love story I’ve done before; it's quiet, awkward, and deeply human. Shrirenu is one of the most complex characters I’ve played, someone who longs for companionship and closeness, but doesn’t quite know how to ask for it, yet he is rich with emotion underneath. This film isn’t loud or dramatic — it’s patient, gentle, and deeply affecting. I was drawn to how it speaks to all the people who’ve felt overlooked in life or love. The film is a reminder that it’s never too late to start living on your own terms. It’s a story about vulnerability, rediscovery, and the idea that it’s never too late to open your heart.

How has your view on romance changed over the years?
Back in our day, we didn’t have apps or access to this kind of dating culture. Whatever ways romance happened was considered just okay. [hamare zamane mein choice nahi tha jo sahi tha romance mein bhi sahi mana jata hai] We didn't have the mode to access dating apps. Therefore, if we wanted to meet a person in the city, it was difficult to meet as that culture didn't exist. However, it was appropriate in that zamana, where we would simply say main aapko pasand karta hoon. [I like you]. But now all those rules have changed drastically. Each generation is different, and I’ve learned a lot from observing that shift.
"Back in our day, we didn’t have apps or access to this kind of dating culture. Whatever ways romance happened was considered just okay."

Did you face any challenges portraying a character older than your usual roles?
Yes, while playing this character in Aap Jaisa Koi, also, age-wise, you should not look very old; your pairing needs to be matching to a certain level at least. So, I didn't want to keep in shape. I decided to keep a little bit of stubble and blacken it a little so he should look younger. But director Vivek refused my recommendations. Just after the song was released, I felt good, I followed my director’s suggestions on the looks of my character, as the song was loved by the audience.
There’s a tenderness in your performance. How did you get that physical and emotional nuance right?
Certain nuances, such as complete surrender, are always beneficial, as I noticed the body language also looked good. Yes, there are times when you feel weird bodily and mentally, as you try to hold your character both ways. However, I am ultimately pleased with the way my character has been portrayed by my director.
The film touches on age-gap relationships. What’s your take on that?
Yes, this is happening nowadays in society. Earlier, there would be a ten-year age gap between a couple, which has been reduced to three years or so in this generation. There are such couples with age differences, like you see in Aap Jaisa Koi
Tell us about your beginnings in the entertainment world.
I hail from Bihar. I started with TV just because I was getting a pay package of 3,000/ as my per-day salary. I never had a keen interest in becoming an actor. Those days, I noticed many actors had that eagerness to get more work on the acting front. However, for me, I did condition myself that way. I didn’t have that eagerness, any references. I just went with the flow. I had a different outlook altogether. Some people understood my intent while others didn’t.
You began films at 32. What helped you grow in the industry?
I entered the film industry when I was 30 years old. When I was playing my first role, I was only 32 years old. I realized very quickly that if I continue to do films, I'll have to learn acting nuances in this industry and other departments also. I soon got to work with all the bigwigs like Kamal Haasan, Director Mani Ratnam, and more. I realized I'm just dancing and singing songs. I didn’t understand how to move ahead. Thankfully, many directors liked my work and started giving me good roles. Now, who would like to give me the villain’s role in Shaitaan. Ajay Devgn, Kumar, and Vikas [Bahl] had that vision to cast me; they trusted me and gave that role to me. Also, I feel this is the best year of my career. I give a lot of credit to all my directors, as they gave me the space and have also seen my potential.
Despite this success, do you ever feel isolated in this journey?
I'm working hard, yet sometimes I wonder - What am I doing at this age, is it worth it? Shooting on the sets is my dream, and I feel happy. But when I go into my hotel room after shooting, since I can’t go out, I am like a loner. I miss being with my wife and son. There are days I wonder if I’m missing out on those precious family moments. So, at times I feel busy professionally and ponder if I am missing out on my prime time, as I am not getting enough time to spend with my family, doing things that I like. I am also lazy, but when I look at Ajay [Devgn] and Akshay [Kumar], I feel yaar yeh log toh abh bhi lage huve hai
