Lincoln Fire Company Fund Drive
The Lincoln Fire Company of Ephrata is having their annual Fund Drive until the end of the year. The 55 active volunteer fire fighters have set a fund drive goal of $100,000. Mailers were sent to the 3,600 addresses in the fire district the first week of October.
Chief Richard Gehman is reporting that as of Thursday, November 15, only 14% of the residences and businesses have contributed. “It is hoped that a large portion of our citizens will respond during the second half of the campaign,” stated Gehman. The Chief noted that the Fire Company has responded to over 310 calls this year to date. Over 5,200 volunteer manhours have been spent for training, fire prevention and administration. Gehman stated “Only 20% of the
calls are actual fires. The Lincoln Fire Company responds to vehicle accidents with injuries, cardiac arrests, chemical/oil spills, water rescues, false automatic fire alarms, medical assists and many more types of incidents.” He went on to state “we are now trained to be a responding agency for all types of incidents including Active Shootings and Chemical Terrorism. The fire company of today is expected to be prepared and respond to many different incidents regardless of the size and
make up of the community” To assure the members are prepared and trained, monies must be provided through the fund drive and not the expectation of fund raising activities. The Fire Company provides first due response to western Ephrata Borough and Ephrata Township, as well as eastern Clay Township as well as mutual aid throughout northern Lancaster County. Donations can be sent to the Fire Company address at 38 South Market Street in Ephrata.
