THURSDAY, AUGUST 13
Shopping News Photo by Donald Reese Families from across Lancaster County gathered recently at Groffdale Mennonite Church to welcome close to 30 visiting children participating in the Fresh Air program. The children from New York City leave behind city streets to run barefoot in the grass, see stars at night and experience all that living in the country has to offer. It was hard to tell who was more excited, the visitors or the hosts, as the children got off the bus in rural Lancaster County. Each year close to 4,000 children visit host families in 13 states and thanks to the Fresh Air program, many great memories will again be made this year. Shown clockwise, from top left, are a host family giving their guest a ride to the farm on a tractor and wagon, a visitor gets a warm embrace from her host, a young girl surprises her hosts with a selection of candy, a family holding a welcome sign and a family pulls the luggage for their guest as they head to their buggy.
