Deeds Recorded

Shopping News Photo by Donald Reese Shown in the photo is Randy Newcomer, print shop volunteer at the Historical Society of the Cocalico Valley, demonstrating the operation of their Ramage/Bronstrup Press. Adam Ramage was a Scottish cabinetmaker who immigrated to Philadelphia in about 1795. He is better known for his wooden presses, but in 1833 he designed an iron press, the Philadelphia, to compete with others that were being built. It had the distinctive wrought-iron frame with a triangular top that you see on our press, although ours was made after Ramage’s death in 1850 when his successor in business, Frederick Bronstrup, continued to make the Philadelphia, under the name of the Bronstrup. They were made until 1875.

Eagle Scout Project Aims To Make The World A Better Place Shopping News Photo by Donald Reese Seventeen-year-old Alex Mellinger, a member of Boy Scout Troop 60 in Reamstown, is putting the finishing touches on a project he has undertaken to attain his Eagle Scout badge. It has been a yearlong process of planning, obtaining permissions, doing fundraising, and of course, the construction itself. Alex and his family attend Swamp Christian Fellowship in Reinholds and Alex saw a need for those who meet or use the church for various activities. His project was the creation of an outside social gathering area that includes a fire pit with seating, picnic tables and a stone base, all edged with 4x4 lumber. The location was well-planned out and is situated under the shade of a nice big tree. Alex has been in scouting since first grade and he has become a role model and leader thanks to what he has learned in scouting. Only one percent of all scouts ever attain the rank Eagle Scout, and Alex can proudly

say he has become a member of this elite group. Alex is shown with a

portion of his project. Shown directly behind him on the right is another Eagle

Scout prayer garden project that was done by his older brother Grant several years

prior. With so much negative news around, it is a breath of fresh air to see that

there are still individuals reaching out to make the world a better place.
