Shopping News Photo by Donald Reese For the next few weeks, the Ephrata Public Library is hosting a traveling exhibition titled “What Does it Mean to be Human?” The exhibit and programs are visiting 19 communities throughout the country. The event explores the latest scientific research into human origins and asks the question - What does it mean to be human? During the next few weeks, numerous programs are planned to encourage reflection on our humanness. Shown is one library visitor placing her interpretation of what being human means on a wall, which will be archived by the Smithsonian. The lower photo shows several children looking at a mother and child sculpture that is part of the exhibit.

The Central PA Blood Bank is planning to hold a Community Blood Drive at Fairmount Homes Retirement Community in Ephrata on Thursday, August 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The blood drive will be held in the Farm Crest Community Room at 1100 Farm Crest Drive on the east side of the Fairmount campus. In summer, temperatures soar, but blood supplies drop, so please take this opportunity to donate blood. Your donation helps to save and enhance the lives of many people, as just one pint of your blood can save as many as four lives. You may schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-7710059, but walk-ins are also welcome until 6:00 p.m.
