Shopping News Photo by Donald Reese The Reinholds Station Trinity Chapel is once again holding their annual Summer Art Festival on Saturday, August 7. The event is scheduled to run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and is held rain or shine in the Reinholds Fire Company banquet hall along Route 897 in the village of Reinholds. There will be more than 15 arts and crafts exhibitors offering a wide variety of items. A bake sale, as well as delicious food will be available. Artist-donated pieces will be raffled off at 3:00 p.m.; you need not be present to win. For more information, you may call 7173366846. On March 1, Devon Eshleman began his thru hike of the Appalachian Trail at Amicalola Falls, Georgia. Devon, an 18-yearold 2020 Ephrata High School graduate from Akron, decided to attempt this 2,193.1 mile challenge. Devon had experienced several weekend backpacking trips. During the
pandemic, he began to enjoy trail running on the Appalachian Trail and met several thru hikers. These experiences influenced his desire to attempt the entire trail. The frameless pack that he used on the trail contained clothing, a sleeping bag, a tarp, usually three days of food, a GPS tracker, a cell
phone and battery pack, a water filter and some basic medical supplies. His pack, food and all, usually weighed about 20 pounds. On the trail, Devon mostly ate instant mashed potatoes, tuna, Pop-Tarts and candy, which he was easily able to resupply at towns along the trail. When he stayed in hostels, he eagerly looked

forward to pizza, ice cream, salad and soda. He estimates that he consumed 13½ gallons of ice cream while on this adventure! Devon averaged about 22 miles of hiking a day over the whole trip. Some of his longer days included: 42 miles in daylight, 69 miles
in 24 hours, and 79 miles in 30 hours without sleeping. There were days that Devon would decide to hike through the night. While hiking through Pennsylvania in April, he was able to join some extended family at a cabin for a weekend and (Continued On Page 5)
