Shopping News Photo by Donald Reese The Akron Lions Club is busy preparing for the upcoming Akron Day in the Park on Saturday, June 11. A day full of fun activities is scheduled along with a great car show sponsored by the Axle Snappers Car Club. The day begins with a breakfast by the Akron Fire Company from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and then the Day in the Park officially kicks off from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. There will be an inflated obstacle course, kiddie train ride, pony rides, Bingo from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m., a pie eating contest, a candy drop, Boy Scout tug of war, a dunk tank and tethered hot air balloon rides. Great food, fun and family entertainment will be available and music by Easily Amused. Shown with the cars are, from left to right, Paul Good (1967 Dodge Coronet), Jake Stief (1932 Ford Roadster Highboy) and Tim Kilhefner (1987 Buick Grand National). These cars will be among many on display in the park. The car show includes dash plaques for the first 100 entrants.

Eicher Arts Center Holds Annual Jigger Day Celebration

THURSDAY, JUNE 9 The Low Vision Support Group will meet at Garden Spot Village, 433 South Kinzer Avenue, New Holland, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the Garden South Conference Room. The program is free and open to the public. For more information, call Karen Horning at 717-355-6010.

The Eicher Arts Center’s annual Jigger Day festival of music, fun and jigger-style ice cream sundaes has been a big community event for decades. But this Sunday, June 12, Jigger Day will be bigger than ever. The non­profit Arts Center in Ephrata Borough’s Grater Park

will mark Ephrata’s 125 years as a borough with a greatly expanded roster of Jigger Day entertainment and special features. Capping the day will be The Nomads, a popular South Central Pennsylvania band that will be playing rock music oldies on the Grater Park band shell from 6:00
