Shopping News Photo by Donald Reese Have you ever been catching a little shut-eye, taking a siesta or perhaps enjoying 40 winks when some young whippersnapper comes along and jostles you out of your peaceful slumber? Perhaps you were soaking up the sun on a cool spring day dreaming about a trip to the barber when all of a sudden the new “kid” on the block decides your naptime is over! At first you think this must be some sort of innocent mistake, but you quickly realize this “kid” doesn’t play by the rules and has no respect for your barnyard status! He may be a half-pint little runt, but he has a will that is unyielding. He is headstrong, both literally and physically, and size means nothing to him. If needed he will call in reinforcements to further harass you and your family until a line is drawn in the sand and you have to call his bluff. Such was the case with this mother and her two baby lambs who had to put up with the tom-foolery of inquisitive goats! Repeated unsuccessful efforts to dislodge him from her back finally led to a showdown that saw each challenger put a hoof down daring the other to cross that line. The small fry delivered the first standing head butt, but was quickly vanquished by the old timer.

Shopping News Photo by Donald Reese Jerry and Grace Gerhart have been volunteers with Ephrata Area Social Services (E.A.S.S.) for over 15 years. On Saturday, April 9, they gathered with 110 friends and family at American Legion Post 429 in Ephrata to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. In lieu of gifts, they requested donations be made to E.A.S.S. Thanks to the contributions from family and friends, Jerry and Grace were able to present over $3,000 in donations to Casey Ellis, Executive Director at EASS. Donations will be used to support all programs offered at E.A.S.S. Shown in the photo, from left to right, are Grace, Jerry and Casey Ellis.
