This week, The Shopping News will begin an article series highlighting our local heritage and the creators of local, well­known antiques. Tom Horst of Horst Auctioneers will share his wealth of local history and antique knowledge with Shopping News readers.

The featured artisan this week is Joseph B. Lehn (b. 1798 ­ d. 1892) of Elizabeth Township, Lancaster County. Lehn lived on a farm outside of Clay (west of Ephrata) and his work is often called “Lehnware.” Shown in the top photo are five examples of Lehn’s
