Ralph & Carol Stoltzfus 1957 These days, Ralph and Carol Stoltzfus spend their time at their apartment at Fairmount. It’s a different lifestyle from the 34 years they spent operating a dairy farm, but they look back on that time fondly. “Farm life is a great life for raising children and we all spent many hours together,” they say. Ralph, now 90, and Carol, 85, met through church youth events. Ralph was originally from Elverson, Carol from New Holland. They went on to marry on December 28, 1957 at Zion Mennonite Church, and have spent the last 66 years side by side. After they got married, the Stoltzfuses moved to the aforementioned dairy farm, where they created many memories together, including weathering the snowstorm of 1958, during their first year of marriage. With no electricity, the couple lived in their cellar for a week, surviving on potatoes, milk and eggs. Then came the births of each of their five children: Larry, husband of Tammy, Simpsonville, South Carolina; Theresa, wife of Pete, Beaverdam, Virginia; Shelby, wife

of Randy, Hawley, Pennsylvania; Roger, husband of Dixie, Elverson, Pennsylvania; and Charles, husband of Ann, Boise, Idaho. Since those days on the farm, the family has grown to include 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Ralph and Carol eventually built a new home in woodland on the farm property, where they lived for another 23 years before moving to Fairmount. The couple has had many adventures throughout the years. They have visited all of the states except Hawaii, as well as many foreign countries. One particular trip that was special to them was riding cross-country snowmobile in Quebec and Ontario for thousands of miles together. They have supported each other when life brought changes and trials as well. After dropping out of nursing school before marriage, Carol returned 20 years later to get her LPN

COUPON SAVINGS

Joe and Trudy Trynosky will celebrate a big milestone this year – May 16th will be the couple’s 60th wedding anniversary. They were married in 1964 in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania after meeting at a Halloween dance in Frackville. Joe and Trudy were originally from that area of Schuylkill County, but later moved to Ephrata, where they raised their three children: Lisa, Lori and Joe. Their family has grown since then to include six grandchildren: Loran, Jeremy,

license, returning to work for 20 years. At the age of 48, Ralph survived a major heart attack, which the couple says was a miracle - “God was so good to us.” The Stoltzfuses have tackled life together with patience and a sense of humor, but also credit their faith. Their advice for other couples is that life is a journey, and to seek God’s direction. “It is what you make it,” they say. They also note that communication is key. Most of all, they are thankful to their parents for their great heritage and example to follow. Austin, Aaron, Aidan and Alayna; and two great-grandchildren: Aria and Avery. For the Trynoskys, their most special memories revolve around their family, whether traveling with the whole crew, or watching the kids’ school activities and sports. They spent many summers at their beach house in Lewes, Delaware. Joe, known as “Poppop,” enjoyed taking all six grandkids on golf cart rides to the “candy store.” Joe and Trudy also took a few road trips to Pensacola, Florida to visit family, and to celebrate Joe’s retirement, they took the whole family on a trip to Disney World. Most recently, they have fond memories of their granddaughter’s wedding in Essex, Maryland. In addition to their travels, the Trynoskys were also known to spend time polka dancing at Sunnybrook in their younger years. Joe and Trudy attribute the success of their marriage to their love and understanding of each other. Their advice to young couples is to always love and respect each other.
