Poetry Out Loud Competition

Shopping News Photo By Donald Reese Freshman Peyton Flexer, daughter of Sarah and Shaun Mains of Stevens, will represent Cocalico High School at the Poetry Out Loud competition on Saturday, January 25 at the Ware Center in Lancaster. As runnerup in the school contest, Peyton stepped in after a scheduling conflict prevented the winner from attending. Peyton’s performance of “An Invitation to Love” by Paul Laurence Dunbar earned her high scores for voice and articulation, physical presence, dramatic appropriateness, evidence of understanding and overall performance. For the next competition, she will memorize two more poems — “Acquainted with the Night” by Robert Frost, and “A Birthday” by Christina Rossetti.
