Lower School Prize Day Awards

2023–2024

“Loving God, unseen Companion of our life, give us faith and eager expectancy as we begin this fresh stage of our journey. Take from us all fear of the unknown and teach us to wrest treasures from darkness and difficulties. As the days come and go, may we find that each one is laden with happy opportunities and enriching experience; and when this year reaches its completion, may our best hopes be more than ever fulfilled.”

The above logo of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, currently used by the Society of the Sacred Heart and Sacred Heart Schools across the globe, was originally designed by Oonah Ryan, rscj, for a general chapter meeting of the Religious of the Sacred Heart in 1982. The logo, expressive of the Society’s spirituality, was embraced by the delegates and has been used and adapted ever since by Sacred Heart schools and communities of the Society.

The ribbon heart represents our hearts, the Society of the Sacred Heart, and the Heart of Jesus. At the opening of the heart is the cross, which calls us to be as open, vulnerable, and welcoming as Jesus. It reminds us to embrace and treasure one another with the same love Jesus has for us. This year, in celebration of our 175th anniversary, we’ve added the number 175 to commemorate this special milestone.

In choosing to use this symbol as our logo, we affirm our commitment to act as One Body, uniting our hearts with those of the Religious of Society of the Sacred Heart, ever inspired by the Sacred Heart of Jesus to be the heart of God in the world. Our common mission calls us to live as a responsive community that welcomes and embraces humanity and all of creation, transforming attitudes and practices when oppression limits the fullness of life, and being bearers of hope in our world.

“We will never fulfill the plans of the Heart of Jesus, never unite ourselves to Him to the degree that He desires, if we don’t have the love, the attraction, and the practice of humility profoundly in our hearts. I would like to see it engraved in fire on your hearts.”
