ONE ROAR ONE ROAR

MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS When we gathered on August 18 to kick off preseason, the fall season was full of promise, challenge, and opportunity. Three months later, we are proud to celebrate a season that not only exceeded expectations but also reminded us why athletics is such a powerful part of our Sacred Heart Greenwich community and student experience. Across both the Upper School and Middle School, our student-athletes showed us every day what it means to Lead With Heart, Act With Purpose, and play for something bigger than themselves. This fall, our Upper School teams earned an outstanding 89 wins; 20 more than last year. Field Hockey led the program with 37 victories, followed by Soccer with 21, demonstrating exceptional depth and competitiveness across all levels. These accomplishments reflect the leadership of our senior studentathletes and the collective commitment, camaraderie, and pride every athlete brought to the Sacred Heart Greenwich uniform. Several teams delivered standout performances this fall: JV A Field Hockey, JV Soccer, and JV A Volleyball completed near-perfect seasons, displaying remarkable skill, unity, and consistency. This includes JV Soccer capturing the FAA JV Tournament title! Varsity Field Hockey reached both the NEPSAC Class A semifinals and the FAA Championship game, finishing with 16 wins despite being a young team. Varsity Soccer advanced to the FAA Championship game, playing with exceptional discipline, trust, and a truly team-centered spirit all season long. Meanwhile, the energy and spirit of our Middle School student-athletes made this fall equally memorable. Our Middle School teams demonstrated tremendous growth and competed with joy and purpose, culminating in an impressive 56–22–3 overall record. Leading the way with undefeated seasons were 7/8 B Field Hockey, 7/8 A Field Hockey, and 5/6 White Soccer.

Thank you to our 33 coaches who guided our teams this fall. Their intentional care, passion, and steady leadership shape the student-athlete experience at Sacred Heart Greenwich. They mentor, motivate, challenge, and cheer for our girls and, above all, create positive experiences and memories that will last a lifetime. As we close the chapter on this remarkable fall season, we do so with full hearts and deep gratitude. The success we witnessed on the scoreboard, in moments of resilience, and in the bonds built along the way reflects the very best of Sacred Heart Greenwich. We look forward to carrying this momentum into the winter season and to continuing to honor what makes our community so special.

Beyond the records, what stood out most was how our Middle School athletes learned, improved, and supported one another. They approached each practice with enthusiasm and Honor, Heart, and Hustle every single day.

One Roar

FROM THE EDITOR Dear Sacred Heart Greenwich Community, As we closed out the fall season and turn the page to winter, this issue of One Roar celebrates something far bigger than scores, standings, or stat lines. It celebrates a community of student-athletes who showed up for their teams, for themselves, and for Sacred Heart Greenwich with grit, gratitude, and grace. Every single team across every single sport is represented in these pages. Together, their stories paint an unforgettable portrait of what it means to compete for Sacred Heart Greenwich. From dramatic finishes on the turf to breakout moments on the courts, from seasoned captains leading with poise to first-time student-athletes discovering their voice, our fall programs embodied our school theme: Lead with Heart. Act with Purpose.

Our girls lifted one another through tough losses, celebrated the small wins that no box score captures, and learned that the real magic happens when a group of individuals believes in something bigger than themselves. Whether it was a Middle School student-athlete discovering a newfound confidence in sports, a varsity team grinding through a demanding schedule, or a coach redefining leadership for the next generation, this season reminded us that growth is the true victory. And that growth happens everywhere, on the bus rides, in the huddles, during the quiet moments before a big race, and in the triumphant ones after. As you read through each recap, I hope you feel the same energy I felt building this issue: pride, joy, and a renewed appreciation for the young women who wear Sacred Heart Greenwich across their jerseys. Their passion fuels our programs, strengthens our community, and inspires all of us to continue elevating what it means to be a part of Sacred Heart Greenwich Athletics. Coaches, family, faculty, and friends, thank you for your support, your spirit, and your belief in our studentathletes. Here’s to a season well played and to the next chapter, where our roar only gets louder. With gratitude and pride,

Mrs. Ayo Hart P’24, P’24 Head Basketball Coach; Assistant Track Coach Co-Advisor, Class of 2028

CROSS COUNTRY

Aidan K. ‘26 - Captain

“No half-times, no time-outs, no substitutions, no excuses. Run!”

Season Recap Cross country is an individual race on paper, and provides an opportunity to practice discipline and resilience. With only a handful of runners on both the Upper School and Middle School teams, each athlete stepped into a season that demanded not just physical endurance but a strong sense of purpose and commitment. In a sport where no scores or standings can truly capture the effort behind every race, our runners found meaning in the daily grind on the trails, on the hills, and in the quiet moments when showing up mattered most. For the Upper School team, the small roster created a tight-knit environment where every athlete played a critical role. They learned to embrace the solitude of long runs while still leaning on one another for motivation and accountability. The Middle School runners brought the same heart, discovering their strength in a sport that rewards patience and persistence. Their growth both as runners and as young athletes, learning to push past comfort, was unmistakable. Together, our teams embodied what cross country teaches best: consistency, grit, and the belief that progress is measured not only by times on the clock, but by the confidence earned with every mile.

UNDEFEATED FALL 2025 SEASON

UNDEFEATED AND UNSTOPPABLE Inside the remarkable run of the 7/8 A Tigers The 7/8 A Field Hockey team brought energy, joy, and leadership to every practice this fall. One of the team’s defining traditions was rotating captains with two new leaders each day, giving every player a chance to guide warm-ups and step confidently into a leadership role. “They were excited to take it on,” Coach Clough shared. Their enthusiasm translated directly into growth on the field. With the mantra, “The way you do anything is the way you do everything” echoing through drills, the team learned to channel their natural competitiveness into focused skill development. By the end of the season, the team showed remarkable teamwork, heart, and hustle. Coach Clough left the season proud and excited. “I hope we continue to have groups like this: dedicated, excited about field hockey, and committed to competing together.”

Season Recap from Coach Clough “Every individual player had an important role on this team. The high energy and positive attitude was amazing. We had outstanding leadership from players like Ellie C. demonstrating her heart and hustle in competition, Violet D. - creating offensive opportunities, Brooke B. - with tremendous dedication and passion to growing in the game, and Lucy J. with her strong communication and athletic growth. Aurelia G. also exhibited speed and improvement in her skills at center forward, going hard for every 50/50 possession no matter where it was on the field! We had an outstanding line of defensive play with Ines F. leading the team unit at Center Back. Off the field, Sophie S. and Ellie J. are two players who kept everyone upbeat and positive. They are wonderful teammates.”

“The most exciting game was our last game against Eagle Hill. We had a rough start to the game. It was close and competitive until we ran away with it at the end. The team’s desire to finish the season undefeated led them to make the appropriate adjustments and work better as teammates, improving their spacing and connections up the field.” ~ Coach Clough

“One of the best moments of our season was when Mary B. volunteered to play goalie. She said she just wanted to make one save. Everyone was so excited for Mary. We dominated possession but struggled with our finishing. It was close and competitive. Mary had one shot and one save. The joy her teammates felt for her was really special. There was lots of celebrating during and after the game!” ~ Coach Clough

With early mornings, long practices, and ever-changing conditions, rowers learn quickly that improvement comes from consistency and attention to detail. Every student-athlete plays a vital role in the boat, and the team’s growth this season reflected an understanding of what it means to move as one. JV SOCCER The JV Soccer team put together an exceptional season, finishing 7–1–2, scoring more than 50 goals, and beating crosstown rival GA three times including their shutout run through the FAA Tournament. Led by captains Lexi P. and Haley B., the team combined competitive fire with a joyful spirit, whether dominating possession, celebrating big wins, or blasting their favorite Ice Spice songs during warmups. One defining moment came in a 4–0 victory over GFA, a result that solidified their place at the top of the league. Another arrived in the FAA final, when a referee mistook the Shanley sisters for the same player during PKs. The girls’ response? Bury the game-winning kick and reclaim a longelusive championship trophy.

INSIDE THE SEASON Coach Lopez is most proud of the environment the team built: a space where everyone improved, mistakes were recognized as growth moments, and chemistry became an “army of players ready to battle for each other.” He looks ahead with excitement, confident that this season’s lessons will shape an even stronger future for Sacred Heart Greenwich soccer.

7/8 A VOLLEYBALL

A Season of Growth in Energy and Teamwork

The 7/8 A Volleyball team authored one of the most memorable seasons in recent Sacred Heart history. It was not simply a season defined by wins and losses, but by growth, grit, and a genuine transformation into one unified squad. Their defining moment came in a showdown with an undefeated GCDS. Nerves were high, but the Tigers rose to the challenge, pushing the top team to a thrilling 2–1 match. Even in defeat, they walked away taller when the GCDS coach told them they were the best team his squad had faced all year.

This season also marked the rise of seventh grader Mia P. As the only 7th grader, she stepped into an older group with composure and confidence. She not only kept up, she thrived, emerging as a key contributor and future leader. Coach Firla noted that early in the season, the girls allowed their frustrations to impede their teamwork, but by the end, the girls had learned to lift one another up. Their signature “knock on wood” huddle became the symbol of their humility and hunger. Most of all, they grew into ONE team and helped fuel the incredible momentum of volleyball at Sacred Heart.

FROM COACH FIRLA “I'm proud of my girls for becoming ONE TEAM, when at moments in the beginning it felt like little teams of 3 or 4 playing together. They really grew as one.” “Volleyball has really grown in my few years at Sacred Heart. I am excited about the interest that has been shown by students, and the idea that the sport is becoming so widely loved! “ At the start of the season, the team faced moments of tension as they navigated challenges. By the end of the season, the girls had grown tremendously, learning to support one another and offer constructive advice, lifting each other up both on and off the field.
