On behalf of all of the staff in our Parks and Recreation Department, I welcome you to participate in our winter and spring recreational opportunities!
As a department, our goal is to provide the community with a very diverse list of quality recreational opportunities while making you feel welcome each and every time you visit our programs and facilities. As we close out the winter months and head into spring, we want to encourage you to take the time to visit one of our parks or take a walk on our 13 miles of trails.
Construction for Pickleball Courts and a Basketball Court has begun at Fairview Park. We anticipate both of these projects to be complete by summer. Replacement of an old restroom at ML King Park has also begun. Expect to see ballfield and trail lighting and shading being installed this summer at Pecan Grove Athletic Complex.
If it is still a little too cold for you, we also have indoor activities like pickleball and volleyball at our Taylor Street gym located across from Fairview Park. There is also Jazzercise, Yoga, Karate, and Tai Chi for participants to join at the Glennie O. Ham Center on Music Street. The Sherman Senior Center has all kinds of free activities designed to get seniors out and about.
Are you looking for something for the kids to do over Spring Break? We are offering the most sports camps that we ever have. There is literally something for everyone. Everything from Basketball to Lacrosse to Tennis. No more hearing, “I’m bored”.
We are looking forward to our most popular annual events on April 1. Eggstravaganza is a fun event where children up to age 12. can visit with the Easter Bunny and search for over 10,000 eggs hidden at Fairview Park. Also in April, registration for our summer Learn to Swim program will begin for Sherman residents.
I hope that you will find something in this Activity Guide that perks your interest. If not, give us a call or send us an email on your suggestion for a new program or activity. Have a great spring!
