Splish! Splash! It’s a summer bash!

Join us as we kickoff the 2023 summer with music, games, and a chance to win a season pass! Bring a friend or two and enjoy a day of fun in the sun!

Sewing 101

Have you ever wanted to learn how to sew, but thought that it might be too complicated, or you would like some formal instruction? Our class will walk all participants through the basics of sewing on your own sewing machine. After this class you will feel more comfortable using your own equipment. The best part, all participants will get to take home a pillowcase that they made in class!

If you need a little variety this summer, we have educational and entertaining shows for kids. New programs each week will have them excited about music, science, or math. Concessions will be available.

Father Son Campout

Dads, it is time for the annual Father Son Campout! It’s the perfect opportunity to reconnect with your sons and with nature. This event will be complete with hiking, laser tag, hot dogs, s’mores, and camping! We have expanded the offerings of activities to include canoing or archery. Friday night dinner along with breakfast and lunch on Saturday will be provided for all participants. If you do not own your own tent, please talk with Parks and Recreation to help ensure you do not miss this opportunity, supplies are limited.

Movies in the Park

Enjoy a free movie after sunset outdoors in the Park. We will be showing “The Bad Guys” animated movie on the big screen. Lawn chairs or a blanket are encouraged. We will have candy, popcorn, and drinks for sale during the movie.

Youth Art Show

Do you have an artist in the family? The Youth Art show presented during Artsfest, is a perfect time to show off these brilliant masterpieces. The contest is open to all kids under the age of 19. Artwork will be on display for the entire community to view and awards will be given to the top three finishers in each grade.

Karate

Karate is focused on the development of defensive and counterattacking body movements. Students will progress through belts under the instruction of Debra Sullivan, a 6th Degree Black belt. Students will work both mentally and physically to overcome challenges faced in the class.

Jazzercise

Burn up to 600 calories in one fun and powerfully effective 60 minute total body workout. Every Jazzercize group dance fitness class combines dance-based cardio with strength training and stretching to sculpt, tone, and lengthen muscles for a maximum burn. Choreographed to today’s hottest music, Jazzercize is a fusion of jazz, dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, and kick-boxing.

Belly Dancing

Whether you are looking for a new and unique way to work out, or you just want to hang out with new friends, our Belly Dancing class has you covered. Students will use both slow movements and fast steps in this low-impact weight bearing form of exercise. Students should wear yoga pants and a comfortable T-Shirt.

Tai Chi for Health

Tai Chi is a non-combative form of martial arts focused on relaxation, balance, and strength. Transitioning slowly between movements makes this ideal for those that struggle with traditional forms of exercise. Class is taught by Debra Sullivan, a 6th degree black belt, who has 30+ years of experience teaching martial arts. Participants will leave feeling relaxed and with a better sense of balance.

Chair Yoga

Chair yoga is one of the gentlest forms of yoga available. This class is accessible for every body type, no previous yoga experience is necessary. Many benefits include; increased balance, strength, flexibility, range of motion, and stress reduction.

Gentle Vinyasa Flow Yoga

Vinyasa flow yoga emphasizes the sequential movement between postures, coordinated with and guided by deliberate breathing. This class moves from pose to pose with each held for no more than 5-8 breaths. Expect a fully balanced class of forward bending, twists, and backbends. All levels are welcome to join this vigorous practice in finding one’s state of flow.

Volleyball Open Gym

Open gym volleyball is available for those of any skill level to come play pick-up style games. Two courts will be set up allowing 20+ people to play at one time. This is a great way to get exercise and meet new people with like-minded interests.

Pickleball Open Gym

Pickleball is a combination of tennis, table tennis, and badminton on a court. Using a wiffle ball and paddles, opponents compete in pairs. These pickup games help introduce new players to the game, while giving seasoned players opportunity to practice their skills.

Beginner Pickleball Clinic

Come learn about the fastest growing sport in America! Played on a court. Pickleball is a cross between tennis and ping pong that is played as singles or doubles. New players are always welcome to learn the rules of the game and fundamental skills. This clinic is also a good way for players with experience to refresh and practice their fundamentals.

Intermediate Pickleball Clinic

Baby shark, doo doo doo doo doo doo Baby shark! Come spend the afternoon hunting sharks. Our staff will be hiding sharks throughout the facility (2 per hour), find one and you will win a sharktastic prize! Life Savin’ Superheroes

Calling all Superheroes! Swing on by and enjoy a fun and safe day in the sun. While you’re there, thank a lifeguard for keeping you safe while swimming at the pool. Throughout the day the Splash lifeguards will be demonstrating different skills and techniques of lifeguarding. We also want to thank our first responders for keeping our community safe. All first responders will receive free admission into The Splash.

Soggy Doggy Pool Pawty

The best dog event of the year is back! Make plans for our annual pool pawty where your furry friends can cool off, socialize, and chase balls with their canine friends. Handlers are only allowed in knee deep water, pups must be at least 6 months of age, and a certificate of rabies shot is required. A rabies tag cannot be used as proof of vaccination for this event. Dogs must be on a leash when entering and leaving the facility and don’t forget to clean up after your pup before you leave!

Silver Splash

Senior swim is back, and pool staff are ready to see you! Exercising in the water is physically easier for those who are older and helps release tension and stress simply by enjoying the tranquility of the water. Seniors may pick up their free pass in the Senior Center Office beginning May 1.

Come celebrate summer with our FREE concert series- the 29th Annual Hot Summer Nights! Shows take place on Thursday evenings in June & July (with the exception of July 6th and July 27th) on the Sherman Municipal Grounds and feature some big-name acts from a variety of genres. Our favorite local acts will open up the show each week, with headliners to follow. Then head to Old Iron Post following the concert to enjoy the After Party, featuring each week’s opening act! Grab your friends, family, and lawn chairs and get ready to enjoy some awesome Hot Summer Nights concerts in downtown Sherman! Pack a picnic, or just show up and enjoy the amazing food trucks that are ready to serve you all of your favorite treats!

This is The City of Sherman’s 14th Annual Independence Day Celebration, LIGHTS ON THE LAKE at Pecan Grove West Park! We are so excited to bring you another amazing FREE concert from Cheap Trick (yes, the REAL Cheap Trick) for a rockin’ 90 minute show! Get ready for The City of Sherman’s 42nd Annual Arts Festival, RAIN or SHINE! How it works:

- Catch a Pokemon at the library and complete the day’s activity to receive a different badge each day (Mon-Sat).

-On Saturday, show us at least 5 of the 6 badges by 4pm to be entered in the drawing for the PRIZE BASKET filled with Pokemon loot! The drawing will be at 4:30pm.

And don’t miss the special trading event on Saturday from 2-4pm -- trade your Pokemon on the app to try to get a SHINY or bring your Pokemon cards to trade!

Senior swim is back, and pool staff are ready to see you! Exercising in the water is physically easier for those who are older and helps release tension and stress simply by enjoying the tranquility of the water. Seniors may pick up their free pass in the Senior Center Office beginning May 1.

Early Bird Splash Fitness

A low impact workout for people aged 50+. Join Deena twice a week in the pool for low impact workouts including cardio, muscle strengthening, and balance exercises. This class is great for those beginning water exercise.

Father’s Day Pool Tournament

This tournament is held to honor all Dads for Father’s Day. The tournament is free and open to men age 50+. Everyone else come join us and cheer on the players. Light refreshments provided.

Portraits with Pets

Have you ever wanted to get a great picture of you and your pet? Well, now is your chance! Please schedule your appointment in the Center office. We will be taking the pictures by appointment only on the patio. Please come to the patio with your pets (no pets in the center) and have your pet on a leash or in a carrier. Current vaccinations are required.

Summer Open House Night

Join us for our summer open house night! You will receive a tour of our Rec Center along with information and a gift bag for new members. We will provide snacks and drinks along with fun games. If you are a busy bee who has always wanted to see what we are all about, this is your night.

July is National Ice Cream Month so let’s celebrate with an Ice Cream Sundae Social with delicious ice cream and toppings. This will be an intergenerational activity, so bring your grandkids or great grandkids! There will also be fun music and door prizes.

Calling all plant loving friends! Invite your family and friends to the Center’s Community Plant Swap! Each person will bring a healthy/pest-free plant to swap with another one! Come join us for our 2nd Annual Watermelon Crawl this August. Enjoy some delicious watermelon. We will have a contest for: Biggest Watermelon Bite, Seed Spitting Contest, Melon Guessing Game, Watermelon Roll. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place winners.

Country Dance with Jason Tally Band

Everyone 50+ is invited to join us as we dance along to live country music performed by the Jason Tally Band. You do not have to be a member of the Center to join in the fun, so bring your friends! We will provide snacks and drinks during this event. Mark your calendar!
