Executive Director's Message As we approach 2024, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the past year and express how much it means to the staff here at the Park District for the role we play in the community. This last year has been a journey filled with challenges, growth, and incredible moments, and as we step into the new year, I am filled with hope and excitement for what lies ahead. By the time you receive the brochure we have a wide variety of programming opportunities and events for the family to come out and be part of the Warrenville community already in the works. On December 1st come over to the Park District as the Mayor and Santa welcome in the Holiday Season at Holly Days or attend one of our other popular holiday events such as Breakfast with Santa, Pizza and PJ’s with Santa, or our NEW Hometown Holidays Drive-Thru and Food Drive. Make sure to mark on your calendar for our NEW Mother/Son Olympic Challenge on January 12th, or the Daddy/Daughter Dance on February 2nd. These events will be extremely popular so don’t miss out! Also, don’t let the cold and winter get you down, stop by the Recreation Center and try out FitnessNOW. We have very affordable membership rates along with some great group exercise classes, and knowledgeable personal trainers. If nothing else, it is a great place to get out of the cold and walk around the track to make sure you are getting in your required number of steps. Make sure to keep up with your New Year’s resolution this year at the Warrenville Park District. As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions on how the Park District can better serve you, please feel free to contact me directly. VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT – MEGAN: I have volunteered for three seasons with soccer and one for basketball. I volunteer so that I could gain a deeper connection with my community. I enjoy being able to make a positive impact by sharing my love of soccer and sports in general. I enjoy feeling rewarded and proud when seeing my players grow as individuals and as a team. There is nothing better than a seeing a player fall in love with a sport and be excited to show up each week for practice and games.

Scholarships Warrenville Park District is committed to providing affordable recreation and fitness services to all residents wanting to participate in our programs. The Warrenville Park District Scholarship Fund was created to provide assistance with reduced fees for residents who otherwise would not be able to participate in these programs due to financial challenges. Eligibility is limited to residents within the City of Warrenville that meet the scholarship guidelines, provide supporting documentation and complete the application process. Applicants must be able to provide proof of residency, income and guardianship as defined on the scholarship application. Residents who qualify are eligible to receive up to $400 maximum per person per calendar year based on need and availability of funds.

new Feeling Frozen in Life? Hints From Frosty the

Snowman Kids Life Coaching Lab Ages 5-13

With the culmination of the holidays, along with general life stressors, kids will get to relax and “defrost” as they learn up to 125 ways to manage worries. Much like when Frosty realized the sun was getting hot and he had to strategize, we will learn to hear our personal warnings “sirens” too. It is always best to thumpity-thump away before our stressors go from onset to peak. This workshop will include a celebration of our new skills by making a batch of homemade science insta-snow that kids can keep and do experiments with at home too. We will also enjoy designing a Frosty the Snowman treat with marshmallows. This is a drop your child off class. Ice Cream Kids Life Coaching Lab Ages 5-13

Making and eating ice cream is a fun way to introduce early chemistry teachings to children and helps build self-esteem. Kids can become experts in this billion-dollar industry as they make a batch of homemade ice cream with mix ins for spring. Think marshmallow Peeps, shamrock golden nuggets, cotton candy, and rainbow sprinkles. Did you know ice cream began with the concept of the Icee? We will sample one! We will also explore the science, history and franchise history of the beloved amusement park treat, Dippin’ Dots. Did you know the founder is from Illinois? Sometimes entrepreneurship happens by accident! The waffle cone and the first novelty vanilla ice cream bar have a great story behind them! Maker’s Club by Nexplore Ages 6-9 Nexplore Makers Club is an engineering program designed to inspire kids to pursue futures in science & technology. Students interact with fun Maker Kits that enhance mechanical, artistic, and engineering skills, while encouraging them to act as inventors in their own right. Participants design their own remote controlled hydraulic arms, learn to harness energy to power race cars, and experiment with structural design. Learn to Code Ages 8-14

Lego Robotics Academy Ages 6-14 The LEGO Robotics Academy is a comprehensive program where children learn to design, build and program projects based on LEGO Education robotics. Using a creative educational approach that supports science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), this class uses teacher-led instruction followed by fun, engaging, and dynamic activities. Students are introduced to basic robotics and mechanical engineering concepts by building and coding a different project each week. Creative challenges are given to students as they progress through levels. The Robotics Academy is a repeatable program where children are placed based on skill and experience. Students move up a level each time they take the class in order to take on more advanced concepts and activities. Students learn programming essentials using MIT’s Scratch coding language using a simple visual interface. A multilevel curriculum starts with children learning the basics of programming. Students program interactive media projects, such as stories, games, and animations. The activities encourage exploration of key computational thinking concepts (sequence, loops, parallelism, events, conditionals, operators, data) and key computational thinking practices (experimenting and iterating, testing and debugging, reusing and remixing, abstracting and modularizing). Minecraft Engineering Ages 7-14 Does your child enjoy Minecraft? Imagine if children learn Civil Engineering and City Planning principles while they are in a Minecraft world. Students work as civil engineers and city planners to design and create a structured city that includes roads, bridges, city zones, housing, stores, schools and more. Ages 8-14

Microbit is a pocket-sized micro-computer board that introduces you to how software and hardware work together. micro:bit has an LED light display, buttons, speaker, microphone, sensors and many input/output features that, when programmed, let it interact with you and your world. In this class, students will learn about the hardware features, how to program the micro:bit, and create projects such as an alarm system, thermometer, compass, sound machine, and more. Our program is specifically designed to work on the physical and mental skills necessary to support a happy, successful, healthy life. Kids Beginner Tae Kwon Do Ages 7-13 Getting your child started on the path to health and happiness is all about starting early. The earlier they receive these skills, the more accessible and more impactful the benefits will be in their life. Martial arts classes for kids aged 7-13 years offering a beginner level experience in “”Tae Kwon Do”” specifically focused on building 3 major life skills: build confidence - we set up systematic obstacles that our students must overcome to build a deep, instinctual understanding that they can overcome anything, building true confidence. Most places just TELL kids to be confident. We BUILD confidence. Build discipline - discipline is a core tenet of martial arts. We help our students develop the tools to always accomplish anything they want and capitalize on whatever passions and goals they have. Bitty Basketball League Grades 1-2 This league has been designed to introduce boys and girls to fundamental skill development through organized practices and games. Yoga is a mind-body practice that combines physical poses, controlled breathing, and meditation or relaxation. Nora Schroedter Nora has been coaching at the high school and college level for 30+ years and is a founding coach of the Maverick Swim Club. Fitness, coaching and teaching have always been her passion. Nora is currently on a weight loss and fitness journey and along the way has obtained her NASM Personal Training Certification. She understands the daily effort it takes to achieve fitness and weight loss goals. Nora’s focus is to pass on her excitement for fitness and help each client reach their individual goals with the proper knowledge, discipline and encouragement based around a personalized program.

Ashhad Sharif Ashhad was born and raised in the northwest suburbs with a huge passion for all Chicago sports. He has been involved in the fitness industry for 8+ years and recently graduated from University of St. Augustine Health Science located in St. Augustine, FL with a degree Doctor of Physical Therapy. Ashhad has continued to develop his skills to help individuals return to the highest level of mobility/ functionality. He hopes to help individuals regain a love for maintaining a healthy balanced lifestyle. He strives to educate clients on the science of biomechanics involving the movements of the human body and to be a personal guide to transform and surpass his client’s expectations.

Janet Tauer Janet is currently on staff as a Personal Trainer and a Fitness Instructor for the Warrenville Park District and has been employed almost two years. The classes she teaches are Boot Camp, Guns and Abs, and Strictly Strength. Prior to joining the Warrenville Park District, she was employed for 20+ years in the insurance industry in the workers’ compensation arena. Janet received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in Physical Education. She enjoys learning and continues to take ongoing classes. She has 5 grandchildren, grew up in the western suburbs, loves to bike, walk, and has run a few marathons and long-distance races over the years. But her favorite job of all time is being a fitness instructor and personal trainer. Janet loves helping people to continue moving and seeking fitness.

Katie Vitucci Katie has had a passion for health and fitness her entire life. She started playing soccer as a kid and developed a love for weight training through the sport. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science at North Central College and is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer. She also holds ACE specialties in Behavior Change and Fitness Nutrition. Her goal is to share her love for fitness with her clients in a safe and fun environment to create sustainable and healthy change.

Tracey Zegiel Tracey has a love of distance running and through her running has discovered a passion for fitness and a healthy lifestyle. Group Fitness Class Descriptions ANYTHING GOES

Challenge yourself and take it to the next level with a class that lets you experience something new each week. The instructor will get the heart pumping with exciting routines that may include strength training, cardio and a variety of equipment.

BARRE

The ballet barre is your best friend during this class full of micro and isometric strength movements. Using light weights and lots of reps this class will target muscles you forgot you had!

GENTLE CARDIO DANCE

This low impact cardio class mixes a variety of dance movements. This class involves the following: cardio, dance, strength, coordination, core, and balance.

GUNS & ABS

Join us for upper-body sculpting and toning along with core strengthening. We keep things fresh by utilizing techniques including circuits, mat work, and free weights set to an invigorating soundtrack.

HATHA YOGA

The only thing we can promise about Boot Camp is that it will get you sweating! Be ready for different styles of cardio and strength training intended to work your entire body.

CYCLING

HIIT

Love the calorie burning benefits of cardio but don’t have a lot of time? Come take a ride during this 50-minute class sure to get you sweating while working the legs and core.

FABUCORE

This class is designed to strengthen ab and back muscles. The class is fun, educational, and full of practical advice on maintaining a strong core and posture throughout the day. A variety of ab, posture, and yoga work will be included.

FITCYCLE

Jump on in and experience the ride of your life! This cycling class combines intensity and focus as one experiences the burn as well as benefits from various stretching movements. Take your cycling to a higher level and join on in for a unique approach to your fitness.

This class introduces the new and experienced students who want to connect to the key elements of Yoga practice. Introducing the fundamentals of Yoga with a focus on breathing and alignment. One will be guided through Yoga postures to build strength, stamina and flexibility.

HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training is the BEST way to lose fat and get fit . . . fast! It’s a well-known “secret” with fitness trainers that short bursts of higher intensity exercise WORKS to get RESULTS. The HIIT class combines cardio, strength, core and functional training.

POWER HOUR CARDIO

Workout your frustrations in this high-intensity class! You will burn fat and relieve stress while gaining a great sense of self-confidence.

STRICTLY STRENGTH

Do you want to shape your body and develop strength, endurance and lean muscle? Discover the benefits of strength training. Not only does it have the potential to increase lean muscle and metabolism, it may help improve balance, flexibility, mobility and stability.

TOTAL BODY CONDITIONING

This class combines low impact aerobics with strength training and resistance exercises using hand weighs, Xertubing, and stability balls. Work all the major muscle groups targeting the cardiovascular and muscular systems. Top it off with a cool down incorporating flexibility.

WEIGHTED INTERVAL TRAINING

Use light to moderate weights allowing you to work your full body in a short period of time. The combination of using weights with multiple repetitions can burn fat and calories both during and after your workout. WIT improves muscle tone, strength and overall health.

YOGA

Come to Yoga class and learn how to stretch, tone and strengthen your body by doing specific poses and using the Hatha Breathing Method. Beginners to advanced students are welcome as you will work at your own pace to help improve balance and flexibility, increase strength and reduce stress.

By applying to participate in these recreation programs, each resident/non-resident realizes the inherent risks involved in the program and appreciates the nature of these risks. Non-Resident Fee Policy The Warrenville Park District resident via property taxes contributes to the operation of the park district. A copy of a map showing the park district boundaries is available for review at the Park District Recreation Center. Non-residents of the Warrenville Park District will be required to pay an additional fee per program. This is a flat rate per program and will be added onto the regular program fee at time of registration. Programs offered on Community Unit School District #200 property are available to residents of the respective school district at resident rates.

Program Refund Policy

A refund will be considered for the following reasons: 1. All refund requests must be received at least two business days prior to the program start date unless otherwise specified. You will receive your choice of a refund or household credit if the program is cancelled by the Warrenville Park District. 2. All refunds applied for are subject to a 10% or $5 minimum service charge, and if applicable, program fees.. 3. No refunds will be given after class begins without a doctor’s certificate. Fees will be prorated starting with the day the Refund Application is received in the Park District Guest Services Desk. The amount of the refund will be credited to your household balance and may be used to register for other programs. 4. Check refunds are approved at the Warrenville Park District board meetings held on the third Thursday of each month, unless otherwise designated. Deadline for submission is the 30th of each month.

Trip Refund Policy

Behavior Management/Code of Conduct All participants, parents, siblings, volunteers, and affiliate groups are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times. The following guidelines have been developed to help make all of our programs, events, and affiliate programs safe and enjoyable for all participants. Additional rules may be developed for specific programs as deemed necessary by staff. Warrenville Park District insists that all participants, parents, siblings, volunteers, and affiliate groups comply with a basic behavior code. All participants, parents, siblings, volunteers, and affiliate groups shall: 1. Show respect to all participants, staff, and volunteers. 2. Follow all program/event rules and take direction from staff. 3. Refrain from using abusive or foul language. 4. Refrain from threatening or causing bodily harm to self, other participants, or staff.

Applicants need to complete a Trip Refund Form at least two business days prior to the trip. Applicants may only receive a refund if they find a replacement person to occupy their place on a trip or if the Warrenville Park District has not paid trip expenses. Service charges will apply. In cases of sickness or emergency, participants will need to leave a message at 630.393.7279 x307, prior to trip departure with their name, telephone number, trip name, and reason for canceling.

Errors and Adjustments While we at the Warrenville Park District try to be accurate in the information presented in our brochure, some unavoidable errors or changes to the programs, fees, schedules, and other information may occur. The Park District apologizes for any inconvenience resulting from these necessary adjustments.

Park District Risk Management Association In 1993, the Warrenville Park District became a member of the Park District Risk Management Agency (PDRMA). As a loss prevention measure, that group has asked its members to require program participants to execute a release form. The Waiver, Release and Hold Harmless Agreement is part of the registration form. Please read the form carefully, sign it and submit it when you register for any particular program. At the time of registration or at the first program session, you may be presented with a sheet describing some of the particular risk involved in that particular activity for which you have registered. If so, that additional material will become a part of the Waiver. Release and Hold Harmless Agreement. We want the registrants in our programs to be aware in advance that, when they participate in certain activities, there is a natural element of risk of injury which each participant must assume. We do not carry medical or accident insurance for program participants. The costs of that type of personal health insurance would make program fees prohibitive. Please review your own personal health insurance plan to be certain that you and your family have the proper coverage. The use of this form is one of our answers to the national liability insurance crisis, allowing us to continue to offer quality programs to the public at a reasonable cost. The Warrenville Park District expects all individuals to conduct themselves in a manner in keeping with their levels of development, maturity, and demonstrated capabilities with a proper regard for rights and welfare of other individuals, staff, volunteers, and district officials.

Discipline A positive approach will be used regarding discipline. Staff will periodically review rules with participants during the program session. If inappropriate behavior occurs, a prompt resolutions will be sought specific to each individual’s situation. Warrenville Park District reserves the right to dismiss a participant, parent or sibling, or affiliate whose behavior endangers his or her own safety or the safety of others.

Inclusion Services Inclusion services are designed to provide the least restrictive environment while providing the maximum opportunity to participate in regular park district programs. There is no charge for Western DuPage Special Recreation Association’s (WDSRA) support. To register for services, simply indicate that special accommodations are needed on the park district registration form. Twoweek advance notice is requested for inclusion support.

Ride DuPage Paratransit Program

The WAA is a not-for-profit organization comprised of up to a 12-member all-volunteer board and is an affiliate of the Warrenville Park District. The WAA’s mission is to provide high quality youth baseball programs to Warrenville and surrounding communities. Emphasis at all levels is placed on sportsmanship, team spirit, and baseball fundamentals. It is the belief of the WAA that baseball programs serve our community by creating a place for our children to have fun, become more physically fit, learn good sportsmanship, and learn basic concepts of teamwork -- including tolerance of others -- and recognition of different skill levels. Some of our major activities throughout the year include the season opener and league banquet, All-Star games and the annual 4th of July Cerny Series. We also fund travel team tournaments, capital improvements, and general field maintenance via our procurement and management of Hotel Funds from the City of Warrenville. The league is open to boys and girls between the ages of 5-14. Practices usually begin around April 1 with games starting April 30. Games are played throughout the week and continue until June. Playoffs for Pinto, Mustang, Bronco, and Pony leagues end the first week of July. In addition to the spring season, we also offer a "Fall Ball" season. We will be sending out more information on registration for fall ball in the near future.

Warrenville subsidizes the Ride DuPage program for senior (over 60) and disabled residents of Warrenville. The program is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, including holidays and weekends and provides transportation services throughout DuPage County. The charge per trip one way is $2.00 plus $1.00 per mile. Warrenville residents may register for the program by contacting City Hall at 630-8363050. Once you register with the City, please allow up to a week before you can begin using the program. Feedback should be directed to PACE Quality Assurance representatives at 800-606-1282. Rides are by appointment only (curb-to-curb service); 24-hour advanced reservation required; call 1-800-713-7445 (TTY: 1-800-713-7415). Rider restrictions include Warrenville residents age 16 and older with an RTA card or anyone 60 and older. Ride DuPage is a cash-only service and the cost per ride oneway is $2.00 plus $1.00 per mile (rounded to the nearest half mile). The service is available twentyfour hours per day, seven days per week, including weekends and holidays.

You can volunteer your time for special events that support our program; please contact the WAA at volunteer@waasports.com. Leagues fill up fast so get in early to ensure your spot.

Riders can travel anywhere throughout DuPage County, for any reason, including personal visits, shopping trips, medical appointments, or just getting to and from work.
