Executive Director's Message
As we transition into the vibrant season of fall, we’re thrilled to share an exciting update on the progress at Cerny Park as part of Phase 1 of the OSLAD (Open Space Land Acquisition and Development) grant project. Thanks to your input and continued support, this phase is nearly complete and will bring a range of new amenities to enhance recreation and accessibility for all.
Among the most anticipated additions are two brand-new pickleball courts, offering a fun and fast-growing sport option for all ages. Our existing shelter has been fully renovated, now featuring a new roof, gutters, improved drainage, and new concrete surfacing around the entire structure—making it more functional and inviting for gatherings year-round.
The basketball court has been resurfaced and color coated, ensuring a refreshed look and a better playing experience. But perhaps the most exciting part of this transformation is the brand-new, fully accessible playground. Selected by you—our community—through a series of neighborhood meetings and public forums last year, this playground will include a rubberized safety surface and a wide variety of engaging play features to inspire imagination and active play for children of all ages and abilities.
And the excitement doesn’t stop there—next year, Phase 2 of the project will begin, bringing a brand-new splash pad to Cerny Park! This exciting addition will provide a fun, family-friendly way to stay cool during the summer and create even more opportunities for outdoor enjoyment.
We are incredibly proud of the collaborative effort that went into making this vision a reality. Your voices shaped this project, and we can’t wait for you to enjoy the improvements this fall. We’re just as excited about what’s to come and look forward to unveiling even more fun, inclusive, and engaging play features at Cerny Park in the near future.
As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, on how the Park District can better serve you, please feel free to contact me directly. I wish you a fun and healthy Fall with friends, families and the Warrenville Park District.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT - SHANNON DRULEY: Shannon’s first coaching experience with the Warrenville Park District was in Fall of 2019. She loves sharing her love of the sport, knowledge and enjoyment of basketball. When teaching and sharing with the players, the smiles and confidence you see and feel knowing their understanding and learning of the game brings great joy. Whether coaching 6 year olds or high schoolers, helping them learn, develop and grow is a gift just as much to me as it is to the players.

Community Engagement
Hey Teens! Let’s create a space where teens can thrive together.
The Teen Advisory Group is a leadership team that gives middle and high school students the opportunity to develop leadership skills and brainstorm imaginative programs and event ideas. TAG members will meet monthly and engage through team building and planning. These youth will also be involved in managing a program budget and learning how to allocate funds for instructors and supplies. The goal of the program is to provide a safe welcoming space for teens to have recreational opportunities as well as social and emotional support.
Together we CAN make a difference!
The Community Advisory Network will be focused on engaging the community to gain feedback and listen to community suggestions with collaborative participation. The goal is to build strong and diverse relationships within the community and creating mutually beneficial dialogue. Lego Robotics Academy Ages 6-14
The LEGO Robotics Academy is a comprehensive program where children learn to design, build and program projects based on LEGO Education robotics. Using a creative educational approach that supports science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), this class uses teacher-led instruction followed by fun, engaging, and dynamic activities. Students are introduced to basic robotics and mechanical engineering concepts by building and coding a different project each week. Creative challenges are given to students as they progress through levels. The Robotics Academy is a repeatable program where children are placed based on skill and experience. Students move up a level each time they take the class in order to take on more advanced concepts and activities. RB Class will not meet on: 11/24

Learn to Code Ages 8-14
Students learn programming essentials using MIT’s Scratch coding language using a simple visual interface. A multilevel curriculum starts with children learning the basics of programming. Students program interactive media projects, such as stories, games, and animations. The activities encourage exploration of key computational thinking concepts (sequence, loops, parallelism, events, conditionals, operators, data) and key computational thinking practices (experimenting and iterating, testing and debugging, reusing and remixing, abstracting and modularizing). Come From Away Ages 21+
9/11/2001… 38 airplanes, 6,579 stranded passengers from 100 countries, 1 small town in Newfoundland. Before they have a clue what’s happening, thousands of passengers are diverted to the town of Gander, doubling its population and putting the townsfolk to the test. Based on astonishing true events and hundreds of hours of interviews with the townspeople and the “come from aways” (aka stranded passengers) who were welcomed with open arms, you’ll experience the spirit of small-town generosity that helped the healing begin. Full of songs that celebrate kinship and grit, Come From Away’s message is simple and significant. In this day and age, it’s more important than ever for kindness to reach across the borders. Trip includes transportation and main floor Orchestra seats. Lunch is on your own at a local restaurant. RB

Our Commitment to Quality and Service

We strive to provide you with high quality recreation programming, and we take pride in making your experience with the Warrenville Park District an enjoyable one. If you are not completely satisfied with your recreation experience or any service that the park district provides, please contact us to share your concerns and suggestions for improvement. We would also like to hear what you especially like about our programs and services. Please call 630.393.7279 to receive our Customer Feedback Form.
Errors and Adjustments
While we at the Warrenville Park District try to be accurate in the information presented in our brochure, some unavoidable errors or changes to the programs, fees, schedules, and other information may occur. The Park District apologizes for any inconvenience resulting from these necessary adjustments.
Park District Risk Management Association
In 1993, the Warrenville Park District became a member of the Park District Risk Management Agency (PDRMA). As a loss prevention measure, that group has asked its members to require program participants to execute a release form. The Waiver, Release and Hold Harmless Agreement is part of the registration form. Please read the form carefully, sign it and submit it when you register for any particular program. At the time of registration or at the first program session, you may be presented with a sheet describing some of the particular risk involved in that particular activity for which you have registered. If so, that additional material will become a part of the Waiver. Release and Hold Harmless Agreement. We want the registrants in our programs to be aware in advance that, when they participate in certain activities, there is a natural element of risk of injury which each participant must assume. We do not carry medical or accident insurance for program participants. The costs of that type of personal health insurance would make program fees prohibitive. Please review your own personal health insurance plan to be certain that you and your family have the proper coverage. The use of this form is one of our answers to the national liability insurance crisis, allowing us to continue to offer quality programs to the public at a reasonable cost. If you have any questions, please call 630.393.7279.
Behavior Management/Code of Conduct
All participants, parents, siblings, volunteers, and affiliate groups are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times. The following guidelines have been developed to help make all of our programs, events, and affiliate programs safe and enjoyable for all participants. Additional rules may be developed for specific programs as deemed necessary by staff.
Warrenville Park District insists that all participants, parents, siblings, volunteers, and affiliate groups comply with a basic behavior code. All participants, parents, siblings, volunteers, and affiliate groups shall:
1. Show respect to all participants, staff, and volunteers.
2. Follow all program/event rules and take direction from staff.
3. Refrain from using abusive or foul language.
4. Refrain from threatening or causing bodily harm to self, other participants, or staff.
5. Refrain from harassment of any kind to other participants or staff.
6. Refrain from any type of bullying.
7. Refrain from any type of aggressive and violent behavior during park district or affiliate sponsored programs.
8. Show respect for equipment, supplies, and facilities.
9. Not possess any weapons.
The Warrenville Park District expects all individuals to conduct themselves in a manner in keeping with their levels of development, maturity, and demonstrated capabilities with a proper regard for rights and welfare of other individuals, staff, volunteers, and district officials.
Discipline
A positive approach will be used regarding discipline. Staff will periodically review rules with participants during the program session. If inappropriate behavior occurs, a prompt resolutions will be sought specific to each individual’s situation. Warrenville Park District reserves the right to dismiss a participant, parent or sibling, or affiliate whose behavior endangers his or her own safety or the safety of others.
Inclusion Services
Inclusion services are designed to provide the least restrictive environment while providing the maximum opportunity to participate in regular park district programs. There is no charge for Western DuPage Special Recreation Association’s (WDSRA) support. To register for services, simply indicate that special accommodations are needed on the park district registration form. Twoweek advance notice is requested for inclusion support.
Pitch to the Pros!
Is there a particular class you have been looking for? Is there something new your kids or you would like to participate in? The staff will consider all submission, however, pitching an idea does not guarantee the program will be created. Send your ideas to Matt Odom, Superintendent of Recreation, at matto@warrenvilleparks.org.
