Leading co-educational independent day and boarding school for children aged 3 months to 18 years

Welcome

Sherfield School is a leading independent co-educational day and boarding school located in a beautiful part of Hampshire, just outside of Basingstoke. We provide an all through education for children from the age of 3 months to 18 years.

Surrounded by 76 acres of exquisite park and woodland, the grade II listed Sherfield Manor is the home of Sherfield School. A building steeped in history and tradition. Sherfield blends modernity with the historic.

At Sherfield, we are more than just an educational institution; we are a vibrant and inclusive community where each child is valued and nurtured. Our commitment to holistic education ensures that every student is empowered to thrive academically, athletically, and creatively, while also developing the resilience, confidence, and kindness needed to succeed in life.

Teachers know students very well, and visitors often comment on the laughter, good humour, and warmth that mark relationships between students and staff.

The wellbeing of every child is at the heart of the school’s philosophy, for while we want them to develop a genuine love of learning, we also want them to be resilient, confident, and kind people who know how to form and sustain good relationships and make a positive contribution to society.

We take pride in the strong partnership we build with parents, working together to support each child’s unique journey.

As the first UK school in the Education in Motion (EiM) family, we benefit from their wealth of experience and dedication to excellence, which enriches our own ethos of putting students first.

I invite you to explore this prospectus and our website to discover what makes Sherfield School a special place for your child’s growth and learning.

The Sherfield Experience

At Sherfield, we provide an environment where children flourish and develop their talents throughout their individual learning journeys. We create strong partnerships with parents to ensure every child is supported, inspired and challenged to reach their true potential. At the very heart of the Sherfield School experience are our core values:

CONFIDENCE

Pupils are ready for the challenges and opportunities life presents them. They grow strong, self-assured and motivated by each Sherfield experience. Through academic rigour and a supportive environment, our pupils become resilient and creative problem-solvers who believe they can and will achieve what they set out to do.

CREATIVITY

Together our Sherfield community build a powerful culture of creativity that is without boundaries. We are critical thinkers who challenge ideas, pave new paths and encourage inventiveness whenever possible.

CONNECTION

As a close-knit community, we know and care for each other. We foster an environment where pupils and staff feel supported while building strong and ambitious futures.

Be strong and sure of who you are and what you can do

Learn without limits and wonder without walls

Early Years Centre

3 MONTHS TO 4 YEARS

It is here where the Sherfield experience begins, in the crucial Early Years of a child’s education.

Our children will acquire the skills of learning that will not only stay with them for the rest of their time at Sherfield School but most importantly, for the rest of their lives.

From the moment a child joins the Sherfield Early Years Centre from the age of 3 months, their needs and happiness is at the very heart of everything that we do. We place real emphasis on supporting and nurturing each and every child to develop their learning, physical and social skills in preparation for entry into school.

Junior Prep

4 TO 9 YEARS

The strong foundations that have been so carefully laid during the Early Years of the Sherfield experience now come into play as the pupils progress through the school in preparation for the transition from Junior Prep to Senior Prep.

Our Junior Prep learning environment ensures pupils have opportunities to develop and excel wherever their strengths may lie. We take pride in offering one of the UK’s most outstanding all-round learning experiences for our children. Our Junior Prep phase provides an environment where small class sizes and meticulous attention to detail ensure every child thrives.

Engaged and caring teachers, amazing staff across the board and very well-led. Feels like an extended family, with the right balance of teaching and developing children into well balanced and thoughtful young adults
Be healthy, confident and eager to succeed

Senior Prep

9 TO 13 YEARS

Whether moving up from our Junior Prep or joining from elsewhere, the principle aim is to develop all pupils to the best of their ability across the wide range of subjects on offer.

From Year 5, Sherfield School’s Senior Prep students embark on a journey towards academic excellence, artistic achievement, and sporting success in a progressively structured environment.

We regard our pupils as individuals with equal rights but differing strengths and interests, that are developed and enhanced throughout the Sherfield experience.

Our key entry point in our Senior Prep phase is Year 7 where our classes go from two per year group to four.

Sherfield’s Senior Prep School has close links with the Senior School, focusing on secure and structured transitions which is key for experiencing what Sherfield has to offer.

Senior and Sixth Form

13 TO 18 YEARS

Pupils join the Senior School from Year 9 and naturally progress into the Sixth Form; seamlessly continuing to build on and carry forward their learning and experiences.

The curriculum is used as a minimum framework which we extend in many different ways, providing a variety of courses and qualifications.

In addition to our own pupils who have excelled in the journey from Early Years to Prep to Senior, we also welcome pupils who have completed their preparatory education at other schools and would like to complete their GCSE and A Levels at Sherfield. We also welcome a number of overseas pupils into our Senior School, allowing our Senior students and Sixth Formers to benefit from cultural learning experiences.

A number of different curriculum pathways are offered in the Senior School and Sixth Form, which ensures that pupils are studying courses suited to their individual aptitudes and abilities.

The Sixth Form Centre helps to prepare pupils for university life, with newly refurbished quiet study areas, a common room in which to relax and socialise as well as dedicated kitchen. Personalised careers advice and support with preparing university applications are embedded into the Sixth Form programme of study, with additional support offered to pupils who wish to apply for Oxbridge or medical courses at university.

Be fierce in your path, wherever it takes you
Be the most authentic version of you

Beyond the Classroom

CULTURE, CREATIVITY AND SPORTS

We actively encourage our pupils to go beyond the classroom to enhance their learning at all levels throughout the school to support social interactions, gain confidence and independence, practice language skills and have fun.

Whether it is a nature walk and bug-hunting in our grounds, a first stay away from home, trips to museums and galleries or traveling further afield, there is a full programme of trips arranged as part of the curriculum throughout the school journey.

Taking part in sport is a vital part of any education and participation at Sherfield is high. PE starts in the Early Years and all pupils in the Prep School swim weekly throughout the school year.

The school competes in regular team fixtures against other regional independent schools in Rugby, Football, Netball, Cricket, Rounders, Swimming, Tennis, Athletics and Cross Country.

Pupils regularly compete at County, National and International Level in a wide variety of sports including Horse Riding, Tennis, Athletics and Ice Skating.

For pupils passionate about tennis and golf, Sherfield School offers specialised academies led by experienced coaches. These academies provide a structured training program that combines skill development with competitive opportunities, allowing students to progress and achieve their potential in these sports.

Enrichment Opportunities

DEVELOP AND LEARN NEW SKILLS

Developing a thriving enrichment programme is essential for our young people of today. We believe these extracurricular skills promote employability, academic attainment and teaches students the skills they need to make good, informed choices.

Our timetabled pathway programme, develops those “soft skills” that employers and universities look for, while also giving students the opportunity to find out more about their interests and passions.

From the creative and performing arts to subject extensions and sports, our clubs and activities are designed to build our pupils’ aspirations, give them valuable, transferable skills and, most importantly, help them make new friends and have fun.

Here’s just a taste of some of the activities pupils can enjoy at Sherfield:

• Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

• Orchestra

• Photography

• Lego Club

• Choir

• Laser Run

• Maths Club

• Swimming

• Gardening Club

• Fencing

Pupils of all ages learn to be compassionate and accepting of others. They know to allow for differences, describing the school as a very caring and enriching diverse community.

Boarding

FLEXI, WEEKLY AND FULL BOARDING

At Sherfield, we offer full, weekly and flexi boarding options within our purpose-built boarding house, Archers Lodge.

The ‘home-from-home’ rooms are available for national and international boarders from Year 5 onwards,. Each room is designed with comfort and functionality in mind, featuring internet access, a study area, a comfortable bed, bedside cabinet, chest of drawers, wardrobe, and a spacious en-suite bathroom.

Generously sized common rooms with living, dining and kitchen facilities are available on each floor with comfortable seating, video and digital TV, board games and books.

The moment the sun is out, the terrace is well used with shaded tables and seating. We encourage a ‘home-from-home’ atmosphere so boarders mix and feel part of a family. In the evenings and at weekends, there is a varied and fun schedule of trips and activities organised so boarders can make the most of school facilities and the location – set in the stunning, rural countryside, close to London and the coast.

Boarders at Archer’s Lodge are cared for by a resident House Master, House Parents, and several live-in tutors. Additional boarding tutors live on the school site, providing comprehensive support. The House Master is responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of the boarders, working closely with the boarding staff team during weekends and evenings.

Boarders feel well known and supported and get to know school routines and expectations quickly through the comprehensive induction they receive on joining the community

International

AN INCLUSIVE SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Our international pupils are highly valued members of the Sherfield community, and we are delighted to welcome pupils from all around the world and places such as Brazil, Mexico, Germany, Poland, Spain, Ukraine, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Italy and Iran.

With brilliant boarding facilities, our international pupils can experience their time at Sherfield as a ‘home-from-home’. International pupils who join will also be assigned a ‘buddy’, who will help them settle in to their new life in the peaceful rural Hampshire setting.

I am confident that my child is in a safe environment where she is being taught well and able to reach her full potential.
