Before School Provision
Sherfield Breakfast Club for Year 7 to Year 13
When: Daily from 7:30 am to 8:25 am
What: They have a choice of breakfast from within the kitchen or from the main dining hall. The cooked breakfast will be available from 7:30 to 8:00am.
Drop-off Location: Parents will drop off at the door around the back of the dining hall next to the fire escape The members of staff on duty will help the children access their breakfast
Booking: Please book at least a week in advance as spaces are limited to ensure staff ratios are adhered to This will be available as a product on Parentmail Ad-hoc sessions may be available but are not guaranteed
Sherfield Drop Off for Year 4 to Year 13
When: Available from 8:00 am
What: Parents are responsible for ensuring their child enters the dining hall and for reminding them to sign in on the register Staff will supervise children who are signed in until the start of the day
Note: This service does not require a booking; breakfast is not available at this time

The main entrance for pupils in Years 7 and 8 is the door to the left of the main reception entrance to Buckfield House
All doors are accessible by a code, and the tutor will give pupils the code to the doors.
When going to and from the sports hall, pupils should always go round the back of Buckfield House rather than the front or via the car park areas, unless instructed to do so by a member of staff on specific occasions.
After School Provision
At the end of the day, children in Year 7 and Year 8 should be collected at either 4:15pm or 5:45pm from the front of the Buckfield building or the parent car park
If a pupil is not collected at 4:15pm and they are expecting to be, they should go to homework club until their parents arrive to collect them from the Main Reception We monitor children who are regularly collected later than 5;45pm and may request that your child use the occasional boarding option to support you and your family This is chargeable to parents

Behaviour Policy
We expect parents to support us in maintaining our standards, which are based upon courtesy, consideration and common sense. We reward positive behaviour and effort with house points, nominations for awards throughout the year and, most significantly, at Speech Day at the end of the year Teachers will take the opportunity informally to pass on positive feedback throughout the year
Anti-Bullying Policy
We have a strong culture of tackling bullying in school, which is enhanced by our Positive Behaviour and No Bullying policy. Children are encouraged to tell their teacher or another trusted member of staff if someone is making them unhappy or worried. If absence is known in advance, parents/guardians/carers should request absence promptly by sending one email to the Head of Year 7 and 8, copying in the Form Tutor and absence@sherfieldschoolcouk
On the day of absence
Should a student be ill or there be an emergency that means they cannot attend school, please either:

If possible, email is the preferred method of absence reporting, as it allows all stakeholders to be aware of a pupil’s absence in the most efficient manner

Observing Common Courtesies
Move around the school with dignity and respect for others.
Open doors for all adults (staff and visitors) and let them go through first
Avoid offensive language, even if there is no teacher present
Behave in a caring manner, especially to those younger than yourself

Line up quietly outside a classroom if the classroom is being used or the teacher is not yet present

Academic excellence and honesty
Avoid copying or any other form of plagiarism as it subverts the assessment process, is a breach of academic integrity and undermines the standards and reputation of the school. This includes the use of AI in school work without prior permission being granted by your class teacher.
Travelling to and from school
While travelling in public places, pay particular attention to your conduct and appearance Show courtesy and consideration to members of the public Behaviour that may offend or intimidate members of the public or damage the reputation of the school is regarded as a serious breach of discipline
Mobile Devices
Mobile phones are not permitted in school Should you need your phone at school they will need to be placed in a Yondr pouch:
Phones are placed in a Yondr pouch at the start of the day (students keep it with them).
Pouches remain locked during lessons and social time to support focus and connection
Pouches are unlocked at the end of the day (and at agreed times for boarders)
If you need to reach your child during the day, contact Reception/boarding staff who will support
Reasonable exceptions and adjustments can be agreed where needed (eg medical)

Chewing gum
Gum is not allowed in school, including at the end of the school day and during after-school activities. Anyone found with chewing gum will receive a lunchtime detention with the head of phase.
Aerosols, cigarettes, vapes, drugs and dangerous items
Pupils must not use any type of aerosol spray; roll–on deodorants may be used
Drugs, vapes, cigarettes, dangerous, distracting or anti-social items must not be brought onto the premises under any circumstances There is a firm disciplinary framework in place for dealing with pupils who do not adhere to these rules.
Any medicines must be given to the school nurse Inhalers and other approved medicines may be carried by named pupils

Start the ‘Do Now’ task as soon as they enter the classroom
Have all the standard equipment with them for every lesson
Complete their homework to the best of their abilities and hand it in on time
Actively listen when anyone else is addressing the class
Try their best in every lesson; ask questions and show an appropriate level of independence
Treat their work, resources, and the classroom, with respect.
Respond to verbal and written feedback from the teacher, and from peers. It's your responsibility to have some agency and take control of your own learning It is not a passive process
