BEHIND THE SCENES

It has certainly been a busy and rewarding first year in the Secondary School as all staff and pupils became acquainted and developed their learning relationships. After interruptions to face to face learning, it was a pleasure for the teachers to interact with the girls and witness significant developments in the cohort, upon their return to school in February. Filling the building with the sound of laughter and learning was a landmark and the start of an incredible upwards trajectory as they worked to re-establish their social skills.

Forming a community takes the time and efforts of all members of that community to succeed. The array of events which have taken place this year, since the restrictions started to lift, have been welcomed and embraced by all. We have seen various themed dress days, and several new events which will form the basis of annual and termly traditions in our community as it grows. These included the spectacular STEM fair and the fun-filled Literacy Week, the Performing Arts Showcase and the cake filled Jubilee Celebrations, all of which have been supported fully by our parents and many have raised considerable funds for varied charities.

A focus in our first year of operations as a Senior school has been on developing open and trusting relationships between the staff and pupils, where learning is seen as a journey embarked upon collaboratively in a safe and consistent learning environment. An extended PSHE programme and integrating pupils into the development process via the Student Council and the Year 9 Peer Mentors has enabled us to ensure that all our girls have someone to consult with when they face throughout their school life.

STEM is an integral part of the curriculum, and the pupils are embarking on inquiry projects to explore creative and innovative ways to interpret their learning. During the final week of school, a school wide exploration of technology past and present led to many interesting conversations and creations.

We look forward to opening our doors to a rapidly growing cohort in August and continuing to watch our pupils grow and thrive.
