The House System is an integral part of life at all of the Sherborne schools so at SFG we kicked things off with a bang…literally! Just before we welcomed the girls back in August 2021, the SFG staff took part in a ‘gender reveal’ style, balloon popping activity which was a fun and fair way to find out which Houses they would be pledging their allegiance to. The weeks that followed were filled with excitement as the pupils found out which Houses they would belong to during their time at SFG and the young ladies in Year 10 underwent the application process to become Heads and Deputy Heads of our six Houses. The chosen twelve worked hard all year contributing to House days, Interhouse competitions and being positive role models for the rest of the school.

On October 14th, the classrooms and corridors were a sea of bright colours as we launched the House System in school! It was wonderful to see all of the girls dressed in their House colours designing zentangle patterned circles and making origami butterflies to create our beautiful ‘House Tree’ display behind the Primary reception.

We had a number of engaging Interhouse competitions that the girls got stuck in to and impressed us all with their effort and creativity. Some of the highlights were producing an artistic design using yummy healthy food and showcasing their STEM skills in our architecture activity where the girls were tasked with recreating a famous landmark using a medium of their choice.

The end of the year, saw us celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee! The school was filled with streams of Union Jack bunting, the girls dressed up in their most regal outfits and in the afternoon we were able to welcome the parents in for a traditional afternoon tea party complete with a ‘Great British Bake-Off’ style cake competition!

Although we could not implement all of the fantastic plans and ideas we had due to certain restrictions that were still in place, this year we laid a solid foundation and look forward to bigger and better House Days, Interhouse activities and competitions to take the House System to the next level in the upcoming academic year!
