ICT and Computing, as well as Business is an integral part of our world as we live in a age of information, IT has become a huge part of our daily lives. From year 7 to year 10, pupils have been exploring a number of theoretical and practical topics which have been engaging and interesting.

Year 7 have explored a variety of computing and IT topics. In term one, they learned all about e-Safety and how to use technology responsibly and safely. The pupils in year 7 produced some wonderful comic strips using an online application called Pixton to inform pupils of how they can stay safe online and how to deal with cyberbullying issues. Year 7 also learned how to use spreadsheets to perform calculations and learned about programming digital graphics in JavaScript. Year 8 were thrown into the world of binary mathematics and learned about how computers use binary values. They thoroughly enjoyed performing calculations and converting from binary to denary and vice versa. Year 8 also became code-breakers, learning about data encryption and secret messages using different ciphers. In this unit, year 8 also explored asymmetric and symmetric encryption which is used in modern websites. Year 8 have also started programming in Python.
Year 9 became app developers and developed mobile apps on various topics such as food ordering, mental and physical health and tourism. They also looked at the origins of money and have started programming in Python.
Year 10 have been learning a variety of topics as part of their GCSE’s in ICT. They have explored different types of hardware and software, operating systems, input and output devices, emerging technologies, safety and security as well as the effects of IT in the world.
The businesswomen of year 10 have also enjoyed learning about how businesses operate, exploring and sharing ideas on business activity, specialisation, added value, aims and objectives, motivating employees, recruitment and selection and marketing. STEM has been incorporated into business as we have looked at case studies from the top businesses which are technology based such as Apple and Facebook as well as using a range of classroom technology applications such as Plickers, Teams, Padlet, Kahoot and the VR room technology.
