Rockies Hockey Our Columbia Valley Rockies did not gain a lot of ground this past weekend. Both Kimberley and Nelson put the run to them here in Invermere. Fortunately, Golden did not fare much better and still trails by 3 points for third place. The Rockies host the Kimberley Dynamiters this Friday, February 8. Kimberley is one of the top teams in the league and always great to watch. The Rockies can take them down anytime. After this game the Rockies are on the road until February 23. Wish them well on the road trip.

Riddliculous Solve the riddles by unscrambling the capitalized words. 1) What some think ELVIS still does. 2) How you might feel after a RESCUE. 3) What mishandling ROSES might lead to. 4) Easy thing to do while being SILENT. See page 9.

Wednesday Night Trivia Woohoo. My team was short a couple players so we paired up with two very smart ladies and we actually won. It has been a long time. I didn’t realize how much I enjoy winning. It is always lots of fun even when we don’t win. The Station Pub is pretty busy on Wednesday nights with the trivia starting at 7 pm. Your $3 entry gives you a shot at unlimited glory.

So I am at a huge milestone in my kidney health. So far the peritoneal dialysis is not effective so I am travelling to Cranbrook twice weekly for hemodialysis. That adds a lot of risk with night time driving. I am setting up to try home hemodialysis, which is basically my last resort to remain here in Invermere. If it does not work out, then I have to consider my next option, which is full time dialysis in a hospital with a renal centre. That is not here. Trying home hemo is a bit risky with very serious possible consequences if something goes really wrong. There is really no one else around to deal with anything while it is happening. But what is life without risk? Pretty boring I guess. I am in a situation where mortality is staring me in the face every day. But life as it is happening is not all that great so it is well worth the risk to change my life for the better. What risks are in front of you right now? Are they worth taking? Many of us miss out on a lot of opportunities because we are afraid to take a chance here and there. What do you have to lose versus the potential gain? Anyways, take a risk once in a while. Go for it in those moments of doubt. Find more and more joy.

Watson’s Waddle Wow it is chilly out there today. That means walks are few and far between as there are a few risks in the cold. My feet get uncomfortable below about minus 12 degrees Celsius. It is bootie time. We have these little bootie things that are like balloons. They keep the moisture, ice, dirt and salt off my feet but still let me feel the ground below. They feel kind of funny at first but I get used to them quickly. When Rob first gets them on me, I run around the house because I love the sound they make on the floor. A bit like a suction cup I guess. I feel a good breeze on my butt as my tail gets wagging uncontrollably. I guess it is because I know there is a good walk coming. Why put on the booties for just a short walk? I love the way they feel in the ice and snow. I have great traction plus warmth and dryness in really cold, tough conditions. I also love the smiles and chuckles from the humans when they see me running around out there. ”That’s a different Watson!” I heard one say. Life is good. Please take extra care of your pets in this cold weather. China joined the United Nations, the Nasdaq Stock Exchange opened, the United Kingdon and Ireland decimalized, Greenpeace officially formed and Federal Express began operations. ‘All in the Family’ debuted, the Ed Sullivan Show aired its final episode, cigarette television ads were banned in the U.S. and Walt World opened in Florida. Kidney Failure

WILMER BINGO WEDNESDAY, FEB 13 7 PM

Just some general thoughts about kidney failure. They say that if you must have an organ fail, the kidney is a good way to go. For several reasons, one being the Kidney Foundation covers the cost of nearly everything. Between them and the B.C. Renal Agency, I get lots of support. Another thing about kidney failure is you can actually continue to live for quite some time with the technology of dialysis. It may not be the same life you had, but you can make it work. An important part of kidney failure is the hope. The hope for a kidney transplant. Nearly every single person has an extra one to give without ever having the thought of giving one away. Myself included before all of this. What a life changing gift. Anyways, take care of your body. Eat healthy, get out and walk and drink a lot of water. Those three things will change your overall health and extend the life of all of your organs.

The Rockies are going on the road for the next 4 games after this one. Good Luck Guys.

So I have been writing about my upcoming oncologist meeting last week. Apparently I had it wrong. I have been sent for the bloodwork and the results have been trickling in but the actual meeting is a ways away yet. The results that I have been able to check are showing not much change in things so far. The ‘monoclonal protein strands’ which are produced by the cancer cells do not seem to be highly present in my blood which would indicate the cancer is still somewhat under control. There are more definitive tests that only the doctor sees. Those are the ones that tell you that you need to go a maintenance chemo or whatever. I am on day 45 of my 60 days of consuming one gram of cannabis oil daily. They say that cures a lot of cancers. Who knows?

Positively “To improve your life you have to quit using words like ‘can’t‘ and ‘not’,” said the psychiatrist. “Do you think you can handle that?” “I can’t see why not,” answered the patient.

So I am in the process of trying to get my urea down to a normal level. It is one of the causes of my itchiness as well as my difficulty sleeping, leg cramps and some confusion. Hemodialysis clears it better than peritoneal so I am currently doing a hybrid system of some of each type of dialysis. Unfortunately this means lots of trips to Cranbrook. I have been blessed with great drivers so far. We are hoping that the home hemodialysis will get my blood where it should be. It will be time consuming but hopefully can learn to do it overnight. I am having no problems nodding off to the computer so that might work out well

Sometimes I find the water in our area a bit questionable. It has a very distinct flavour, which I do not enjoy. With my current kidney issues, I am supposed to drink a lot of water. I want good water. Kootenay Water is a great option. You can fill your containers 24 hours from their dispenser. It is located on the wall of the building that houses Kootenay Coffee Works (Bavin Glass was there also). The water is very good quality, purified and tasty (or tasteless?) Everyone should drink lots of water.

The District of Invermere would like to remind everyone to take extra care while travelling during the winter season. Residential and commercial driveway entrances and sidewalks are the responsibility of the owner to be cleared of windrowed snow and ice to the degree that the mobility of vehicular and pedestrian traffic shall not be compromised.

I am finding it is hard to make a comeback when I really haven’t been anywhere.

Here’s how you can help...

Facebook Pages for Business

Be a good neighbour. Do not park on the street during a snowstorm or while snow clearing operations are underway. Pile snow on the right side of your driveway (when facing the road) if possible when shoveling. Remove snow from around fire hydrants on or near your property to enable quick access by emergency personnel if the need arises.

Facebook can be a mighty tool for small businesses and entrepreneurs, who can use special pages, groups and ads to get known and connect with customers. The Tuesday, February 12 lunch and learn at the Mountain Hub will focus on using Facebook for your business to help you make the most of this free tool. The cost is $20 (or free for Mountain Hub members) for the noon to 1 pm session. Bring your lunch

Dream Job The other day a friend of mine asked me what I thought my dream job would be. Who has a job in their dreams?

Putting on the Ritz As we travel through our lives in this world we see a lot of people doing a lot of different things. We develop thoughts and opinions about most of them. We compare ourselves to nearly everyone. Please remember this: everyone has issues. Lots of them. We all try to put on a good show. Some folks actually think that I have it together. Believe me, I don’t. No one does.

Learning is Growing So I have these booties that I put on Watson’s feet during really cold weather. They are like balloons that I have to stretch over his paws. He actually really likes them, probably because they associate with a walk. Anyways, his feet are huge and the nails grow quickly sot the booties can be difficult to put on. But a gentleman suggested stretching them over the mouth of a jar and then just putting the foot into the jar. It worked brilliantly. College of the Rockies is always offering a great selection of courses to help us keep learning. Check it out.

Single Valentine’s Day I am single. That adds a bit of a twist to Valentine’s Day for sure. You are supposed to treat your loved one to something on Valentine’s Day. What will I treat myself to? There are a lot of us out there. Do not be ashamed or depressed about being single. Be confident and proud of who you are and celebrate that. If you are worried about Valentine’s Day, plan a dinner with a friend or treat yourself to an amazing dinner.

early (5:30 am) or quite late (11 pm return). I also have been going to Calgary for some medical and dental work, often very early there too. Anyways, thanks to the folks who have been giving me rides, I find myself nodding off quite easily when I drive much of a distance. I have to stop lots. I have been very blessed so far with friends helping me out.

Sleep Patterns There are a lot of things about me that I do not like. My current sleep pattern is one of them. With all the stress and depression happening from my health issues, solid sleep just never comes. I have these crazy little panic attacks that affect my breathing. Add that to the itchiness from kidney failure and sleep is tough. The worst part is the number of times I will be nodding off today as I try to get all of this written. The brain is a tricky thing to understand.

Happy Husband I have the best wife in British Columbia. The other one lives in Manitoba.

Transport Support A huge thank you to my transport support team. I am travelling to Cranbrook and back a couple times a week, often very
