With all the attention usually on quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers, linemen are the unsung heroes on football teams. But the Plano Reapers were among those in the front lines who got some significant notice as well as an exercise in team-building at West Aurora High School’s annual “Big Butts” competition. West Nile virus found in Plano, Oswego areas SHAW MEDIA Kendall County Health Department has issued a warning that mosquito batches collected earlier this month in both Oswego and Plano have tested positive for West Nile virus. Positive mosquito batches have also been found in several other surrounding counties in-
cluding DuPage, Kane and Will, in addition to counties in central and southern Illinois. The Kendall County Health Department would like to remind citizens that the risk of West Nile virus infection is greatest from July through the first hard frost in the fall. During this time, please take appropriate actions in order to protect yourself and
your loved ones. To date, no human cases of West Nile virus have been identified. However, the positive batch results indicate that the virus has emerged and is in our backyards. Residents should take necessary precautions to protect themselves from mosquitoes. The best way to prevent West Nile or any other mosquito-borne

Plano School Board members have good ideas that the public might be interested in, Superintendent Dr. Hector Garcia said at this week’s school board meeting. He said a recent statistic claimed that 60 percent of Americans get their news from either Facebook or Twitter. “I don’t agree with that, but it’s not up to me to say what Americans should or should not be reading. I just know that if this is the current reality, I think we need to get our administrative com- Inside munication out,” he said. Just Q Plano imagine; what if School they all tweeted just three times a Board has week. Could par- candidates ents get some crit- for assistant ical information principal. they did not know Page 3 about?” he asked. He noted that there is rarely any member of the public in attendance at school board meetings. “Maybe they didn’t attend the winter musical with the entire gym packed with parents and a record number of musicians performing. How would you know what’s going on? How would you know that the board supports every student who wants to play an instrument? They simply say ‘I want to play,’ and we take care of all the expenses,” he said. This is the type of information he wants the administrators to tweet so residents who use Twitter can find out what’s going on in the district.
