Growing up in Pennsylvania, Wade Myers was around cattle, and it instilled a love of animals and 4-H in him. Myers was involved in 4-H and took an avid interest in beef and heifer projects. “I guess it taught me a lot working in 4-H,” he said. “You know, just having a project, having that project to work on and build, grow the calves.” Myers said when it came to his various animal proj-
ects, there were a few that could be stubborn or challenging. As for showing, Myers added it takes a lot of “patience” and “dedication.” “I always enjoyed that,” he said. Coming to Iowa In 2007, the Myers family moved to Iowa from Pennsylvania. Myers’ wife Kelly, whose family was also originally from Pennsylvania, as well, had moved to Iowa some years ago, which is one of the reasons he and his wife also moved to the Midwest. “It’s just more opportunity for us out here than in
Pennsylvania. Land was so expensive back there and farms aren’t that plentiful,” Myers said. “So, it was a big part of both us wanting to come here … get our own place.” Myers grain farms a couple acres of land and makes a lot of square-baled hay and straw. The family bought a couple of calves a few years ago, and have slowly, but steadily, worked on the small herd. Myers works at Osceola Foods and his wife works in local school districts.
