Park district to see savings Bond refinancing expected to reduce interest costs by $334,000 proved bond refinancing. The park district board voted unanimously last week to proceed with the bond refinancing as recommended by their bond consultant, Eric Anderson of PiperJaffra.

According to information presented to the board, the agency should now save on bonds previously issued to purchase the Fox Bend Golf Course almost 10 years ago, as well as bonds issued more recently for the total renovation and enlargement of the Winrock swimming pool in the Boulder Hill subdivision. Anderson said they said they will save nearly $334,000 in future interest costs by refinanc-
ing. The interest rate on the new bonds will be 2.10 percent or an all-inclusive rate with expenses of 2.38 percent. This will result in generating $1,334,010 for capital projects at closing, plus an estimated additional $21,300 in interest earnings from the escrow of the 2012 debt certificates that may also be used for capital projects.

Majority of rebates won’t be claimed Only about a third of eligible residents applied to village By JOHN ETHEREDGE jetheredge@shawmedia.com

Needy children in the School District 308 community will receive Christmas gifts this year thanks to the efforts of the Oswego Fire Protection District, District 308 junior high schools, the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program, local businesses and the Oswego Optimist Club. Over the past several weeks, thousands of new toys were donated at the school district’s five junior high schools by students, staff members and community residents. Fire District Capt. John Cornish reported
that 5,176 toys were collected for this year’s drive, far surpassing the 4,300 collected last year. This past Thursday, 10 students from each of the schools helped firefighters transport the toys from their schools to fire station No. 1 on Woolley Road in Oswego. Firefighters then treated the students, their families and friends to breakfast at the station. Members of the Optimist Club are now distributing the toys to local children in need.
Many village of Montgomery residents have taken a pass on the village’s offer of a $45 check in the mail. To help secure passage of a sales tax hike referendum in November of 2014, the village board pledged to rebate a portion of the additional revenues the tax increase is now generating directly to the village’s residential property owners. The deadline for village residents to file an application form with the village to receive the rebate was Dec. 15. But, according to information provided by the village only about 2,000 of an estimated 6,000 eligible residential property owners filed applications. The village will mail rebate checks to those residents who completed the forms next spring. This fall the village included information about the rebates in water bills sent to residents, mentioned it on the village’s Facebook page and also posted a rebate application form on the village’s website. Information concerning the Dec. 15 rebate application deadline was also featured in the village’s newsletter. Village President Matt Brolley said he spoke to several village residents who told him they did not want to claim their rebate. “They said, “Keep the $45, just fix my road,” he said. “I understand both sides of it,” Brolley continued, “So there are probably a percentage of people
