W
hat had been a balmy and mild November quickly changed last Friday and Saturday as a cold front and then a snowstorm struck northeastern Illinois. Snowfall totals for Kendall County ranged between three and seven inches while, according to the National Weather Service, a record 11.2 inches of snow fell on Chicago. The heavy, wet snow kept plow crews busy Friday night and throughout the day on Saturday. Much of the snow was expected to melt today, Thursday, as temperatures were predicted to reach into the low 50s.
Oswego board caps number of licenses at nine By NATALIE STEVENS news@kendallcountynow.com
Businesses seeking to obtain a video gaming license in the village of Oswego in the future will need to receive Village Board approval following a unanimous 6-0 vote to amend the gaming ordinance this past week. The topic of the video gaming licenses was approached at an earlier November board meeting when an establishment that would offer primarily video gaming and not food and beverages applied to the village for a license. Previously, the village has had a cap of 10 video gaming licenses, which is the number of businesses that had expressed interest when gaming was first permitted, said Village Clerk Tina Touchette at an earlier meeting. The village clerk was the one who issued video gaming licenses under the earlier ordinance, but Touchette said village staff wanted to address that for future licenses. Under the amended ordinance, trustees would need to approve any and all video gaming licenses instead of the village clerk. The amendment also now caps the total number of licenses at nine, which is the current number of businesses with those licenses. Video gaming licenses can only be issued to establishments that have a valid liquor license.
