Krista Jocke of Montgomery recently tied a blue ribbon on a tree in front of her home to show support to police officers locally and across country. She also provided blue ribbons for more than 50 of her neighbors to display on their homes.

Montgomery residents display ribbons in honor of police By JOHN ETHEREDGE jetheredge@shawmedia.com What started out as one Montgomery resident’s effort to show support for police officers everywhere has spread rapidly to other homes in the village’s Foxmoor and Fairfield Way subdivisions. Moved by the recent deaths of a Fox Lake police officer and others across the country, Krista Jocke of Montgomery told the village board this past week she decided to hang homemade blue ribbons outside her home. Noticing that she had some

leftover material, Jocke said she posted a notice on her subdivision’s Facebook page offering blue ribbons to her neighbors and others in her subdivision. Jocke said she quickly received over 50 requests from residents in the two subdivisions on the village’s far west side. As the daughter of a retired Naperville police officer, Jocke said she was thrilled by the large number of residents who asked her for ribbons to display. Referring to herself and her neighbors, Jocke said, “We

just want everybody to know that we support our police and we want our ‘blue’ [police] families to stick together. Once you are in a blue family, you are always in a blue family.” Turning to Montgomery Police Chief Dan Meyers and Deputy Chief Armando Sanders, who were in attendance at the board meeting, Jocke said, “This is just to show our support and we are with you in everything you do.” Meyers thanked Jocke on behalf of the police department. Village President Matt

Brolley said village officials appreciate the show of support for police by Jocke and her neighbors. “Especially in these times, it’s a pretty emotional thing to stand up and put something in front of your house that shows you support our police officers and those across the nation,” Brolley said, adding, “It’s pretty amazing.” Jocke said she still has some material left over for blue ribbons and invited residents who would like to display ribbons at their homes to send her a private message on Facebook.

An Oswego man arrested in connection with a shooting incident in the village’s Cedar Glen subdivision fired a rifle at two village police officers, according to information released by police Sept. 18. Police took Taylor J. Cano, 24, of the 100 block of Ashlawn Avenue in Oswego into custody Thursday after he was released from an area hospital, where he was being treated after being shot by police during the Taylor J. incident. Cano Cano has been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felony in connection with the Aug. 29 incident. Judge John McAdams set bond for Cano at $1 million during a hearing at the Kendall County Courthouse in Yorkville. Cano’s next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28. Police said Cano had been staying at the Ashlawn Avenue residence a block east of Ill. Route 25 off and on since the middle of August. Police said Cano allegedly obtained the rifle at the residence. According to police, Cano called 911 in the early morning
