The old Oswego Village Hall is finally coming down. The village board voted unanimously Tuesday evening to award a contract totaling $34,900 to Signature Demolition of Bridgeview to tear down the old building located at 113 Main St. in the village’s downtown. Signature Demolition submitted the lowest bid for the contract, said Building and Zoning Manager Jay Hoover, and they “met all the qualifications as well.” The bid was the lowest by a significant amount, as village documents show that the next lowest was $49,100. The highest bid totaled $110,000. The entire project was estimated at a cost of $50,000, Hoover said. Between the cost of the demolition and the cost of the asbestos removal and air monitoring, which is not to exceed $5,725, the entire cost for the demolition is under the staff estimate, according to Hoover. Also under terms of the contract, Signature Demolition will fill in the cleared site and seed it with grass. A requirement for the demolition crew was that the building needed to be taken down before the village’s annual Christmas Walk. Hoover said the asbestos removal will take place next week. The pending demolition of the building has been a cause for concern for some village residents and officials.
