Oswego police opened their station on U.S. Route 34 to the public for guided tours Saturday morning. Police Chief Jeff Burgner said police offered the tours in an effort to help show the public why police and the village board are now planning the construction of a new, larger station. Burgner reported 47 adults participated in the tours. The current police station was built in 1991 and was intended to last 20 years and hold up to 50 employees. Currently, the police department has 69 employees and the site has no room for expansion of either the building or parking lot.

Part of the former Oswego Village Hall will be saved during its demolition this fall. During their next meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 6, the Oswego Village Board is expected to award a contact totaling $34,900 to Signature Demolition of Bridgeview to tear down the old municipal building at 113 Main St. Signature Demolition submitted the low bid for the contract. According to village officials, the contract will include a stipulation that 200 bricks be saved from the building’s facade. Also under terms of the contract, Signature Demolition will fill in the cleared site and seed it with grass. The project should wrap up by the end of November, according to Jay Hoover the village’s building and zoning manager. As far as what happens to the preserved bricks, Hoover said that is still a discussion the board and community will have to have. Village President Gail Johnson said there has been interest from people who want one of the bricks, including former village employees. “The calls have been coming in,” she said. Johnson said there has been talk about using the bricks for a walkway or a perhaps a memorial but nothing has been decided.
