The Lorentzen family of Plano was one of 10 families that won the Miniland Chicago Family Photo Contest. The families were recreated as Lego minifigures and were permanently added to the Miniland Chicago exhibit at Legoland Discovery Center Chicago. There are bins of the plastic brick toys in their living room, completed projects, including cars and a karate dojo, around the house, and Lego boxes and directions scattered here and there. When not playing with Legos, they play Lego video games, watch “The Lego Movie” or play the Lego board game. When Gavin, 9, and his brother Tyler, 7, come home from school, they rush to play with their Legos, and before long, their parents, Chris and Nicole, join them on the floor to play and build together. The family works on both small and large Lego projects together, and Nicole used Legos to teach her sons fractions. “Nicole and I both played with Legos growing up, and getting on the floor or helping our kids build

“I was on my lunch break when Nicole sent me a picture of the minifigures, asking me to guess who they were. I said, ‘Oh my God, that’s us.’ ” Chris Lorentzen a design kit brings back memories from childhood,” Chris Lorentzen said. “Legos are great for all families, it brings everyone together to create and have fun.” Although the family loves Legos, they never imagined that one day, there would be Lego minifigures created in their likeness.
