United Sugars Corporation’s massive dome-shaped sugar facility in Montgomery. Officials are expecting the facility will begin operations by the end of this year.
Montgomery sees opening of massive sugar storage dome By TONY SCOTT tscott@kendallcountynow.com Even Homer J. Simpson couldn’t dream of a sugar pile this huge. Montgomery officials and sugar industry VIPs attended an invitation-only ribbon-cutting and grand opening ceremony last Wednesday for the massive United Sugars Corporation facility on Aucutt Road on the village’s near west side. Officials broke ground on the facility in November of 2015, and
company officials said they expect the facility to be operational by the end of the year. The 134-foot-tall dome-shaped storage building on the 20-acre property can hold up to 130 million pounds of sugar, according to United Sugars officials. The facility will handle up to 24 railcars full of sugar per day, and more than 75 trucks a day destined for sugar customers, Robert Green, chairman of United Sugars, told the crowd.
