Obituaries Merrill Underwood

ISP apprehends Arkansas murder fugitive

PRINCETON — Merrill T. Underwood, 83, of Princeton passed away at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Born March 26, 1932, in Marshall County to Ellis and Lissie (Elmore) Underwood, he married Virginia Giensenhagen Dec. 31, 1951, in Dixon. She preceded him in death on April 12, 1998. He had farmed, did construction work and was a truck driver during the course of his working career. He is survived by two sons, Thomas (DeAnn) Underwood of Princeton and Richard (Sandy) Underwood of South Park, Pa.; one brother, Eunice (Betty) Underwood of Decatur; three grandchildren, Beau (Casey) Underwood of Jefferson City, Mo., Jenna (Erik) Rolfs of Simpsonville, S.C., and Nicole Underwood of South Park, Pa.; and his special friend, Barbara Bass. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, in the Fiocchi-Jensen Funeral Home, Princeton, with the Rev. Beau Underwood officiating. Interment will follow in Elm Lawn Memorial Park in Princeton. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, in the funeral home.

Gladys Rombout

MANLIUS — Gladys Rombout, 97, of the rural Manlius area died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, at Country Comfort Retirement Home in Princeton. Gladys was born April 10, 1918, in Ashton, the daughter of George Clarence and Mary Martha (Kepple) Hadley. She was united in marriage to August Rombout on March 15, 1938, in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 2005. Gladys Gladys was superintendent of the Sheffield Rombout United Methodist Church Sunday School program. She was instrumental in developing the Senior Citizens Society in Manlius and enjoyed organizing the trips. She was a member of Sheffield United Methodist Church for many years and lately a member of the Walnut Community Bible Church. She was a loving mom and grandma. She is survived by one son, Larry George (Sandie) Rombout of Florid; two daughters, Deanna Marie (Ronald) Nelson of Freeport and Linette (Ray) Bolin of Wyanet; five grandchildren, Larry Douglas Rombout, Dennis Alan Rombout, Melissa (Jim) Mennie, Elizabeth (Jerad) Klingenberg and Jason (Kendyl) Bolin; 10 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one great-greatgreat-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, David John; and two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday Aug. 31, at the Walnut Community Bible Church with the Rev. Eldon Cook, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Manlius Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. A memorial has been established to the Sheffield United Methodist Church, the Walnut Community Bible Church and the Manlius Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.garlandfuneralhome.com. LASALLE — Illinois State Police officials were notified by the U.S. Marshals Office of a subject wanted on a conditional release violation for previous weapons and first degree murder charges in Arkansas. According to the U.S. Marshals Office, Issac Joles, 41, was believed to be traveling through Illinois.

Princeton Police

Law enforcement officials utilized pings from the suspect’s cell phone to hone in on his approximate location. ISP officers observed the suspect in Marseilles and conducted a traffic stop, taking him into custody without incident. Joles is being held at the LaSalle County Jail for processing and extradition to Arkansas.

Joseph R. Knowles, 34, of Princeton was charged with battery in the 400 block of South Gosse Boulevard at 2:11 p.m. Aug. 26.

Illinois State Police Warrant arrest

Edward L. Baker, 61, of Fairview Heights was picked up on East 2575th Road near North 2879th Road in LaSalle County at 3:51 p.m. Aug. 26 on a traffic warrant.

DUI

Erica Y. Kirichkow 34, of Beloit, Wis., was charged with driving under the influence, speeding, improper lane usage, illegal transportation of alcohol and driver’s license not on person on Interstate 39 northbound near Milemarker 71 in LaSalle County at 8:46 a.m. Aug. 27.

Spring Valley Police Accidents

A vehicle driven by George Roach, 51, of Normal struck a parked vehicle owned by Michele A. Richardson, 53, of Spring Valley in the 800 block of Bernal Court at 7:47 a.m. Aug. 24. An accident between Matthew J. Burkhart, 55, of Spring Valley and Josephine M. Magana, 85, of Spring Valley occurred on Route 6 near Dakota Street at 12:09 p.m. Aug. 26.

A vehicle driven by Miguel A. Bueno, 38, of Spring Valley struck a vehicle owned by Florivel Castanedo, 23, of Spring Valley on Devlin Street near Spalding Street at 5:14 a.m. Aug. 27. Bueno was charged with failure to report accident to police.

Bureau County Sheriff Arrest

Michael L. Birkey, 34, of Princeton was charged with trespass to railroad property, criminal damage to property, illegal transportation of alcohol liquor, reckless driving and leaving the scene of a property-damage accident on 2050 North Avenue near 2800 East Street in Berlin Township at 5:45 a.m. Aug. 23.

Entwhistle, 72, of Princeton struck a deer on Route 29 near 1185 North Avenue in Selby Township at 5:48 a.m. Aug. 21. Ryan W.
