Princeton hires city manager Bureau County native Rachel Skaggs set to start before year’s end By Terri Simon tsimon@bcrnews.com

PRINCETON — A Bureau County native has accepted the job of city manager for the city of Princeton. The city of Princeton has announced Rachel (Lange) Skaggs of Hampshire, Ill., has accepted the position of city manager. Her start date is slated to be no later than Nov. 2.

Skaggs comes to Princeton with a track record of public administration, having worked in Montgomery, and most recently as a management analyst for the village of Schaumburg. According to the city’s press release, she has managed substantial capital and general budgets, developed utility policies, improved economic development initiatives and worked with multi-

ple collective bargaining units. Princeton Mayor Joel Quiram said Skaggs’ direct communicative style and her demonstrated abilities were major factors the city council used to determine Skaggs would be the right fit for Princeton. Quiram said he is excited about Skaggs joining the team. “She has a very easy going and friendly

demeanor, and I think people will really warm up to her,” Quiram said Friday morning, adding Skaggs’ experience with economic development, including bringing in new businesses and helping other businesses to expand, will benefit the city. Quiram also said he believes Skaggs will be very visible in the community and has plans to meet with business owners to help move

the city forward. He called Skaggs “approachable, a relationship-builder and a consensus-builder.” A native of Walnut and a graduate of Bureau Valley High School, Skaggs has a master’s degree in public administration with an emphasis on local government management from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. “I’m looking forward to it, definitely,” Skaggs said
