FINANCIAL & LEGAL

Opening up the law AFTER A SERIOUS SPINAL OR BRAIN INJURY A life changing injury is something we all hope we will never experience, but if the worst should happen its important to know what support is available to help with the road to recovery.

A

t Simpson Millar, we understand the devastating impact that an injury can have, not only on you, but also on your family.

It can affect you physically, mentally and financially. It can prevent you from going to work, or caring for your children or loved ones. Our expert lawyers know that the road to recovery is more than just a claim for compensation. That’s why we have a Major Trauma Unit who work with our clients to help them understand the law and how it can support and protect them after their injury. Rehab can feel like a daily challenge and requires much determination and motivation. But with the right support and understanding from loved ones, progress is possible.

A TAILORED APPROACH TO YOUR RECOVERY Your injury can impact on every area of your life. We know you will need rehabilitation and support and have immediate concerns about the impact of your injury on your finances, work, family and children, or if it’s a child that’s affected, their education needs. Longer term there will be your future care needs and financial planning. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. The aim of our Major Trauma Unit is to connect the dots for you after a catastrophic injury and take the burden away from you allowing you to focus on recovery. Our solicitors specialising in serious brain and spinal injury claims, employment law, the court of protection, family and children law, wills, trusts and education form one service opening up the law, supporting and protecting you after a major trauma.

HOW THIS HAS HELPED OUR CLIENTS Our Personal Injury team secured £18 million for a 17-year-old who suffered a traumatic brain injury after being hit by a car. He was left with a profound level of disability, is unable to walk and requiring lifelong care. Our Court of Protection team continues to work closely with the family to put in place the long term care the client will need for the rest of their life. This involved putting in place and managing a care team. They are also purchasing and adapting a property suitable to the client’s needs and have appointed a financial advisor to invest the remaining

compensation, working with the family to create a future budget to make sure the award will last for the rest of their life. In another case, our Employment Lawyers were able to help with negotiating a better financial package for a client who had issues at work following a spinal cord injury. The client was off work due to sickness as a result of their accident, but wanted to return to work. Their employer would not facilitate much needed adjustments to the client’s role and instead wanted to end their employment and pay compensation for ending the employment. WHATEVER YOU MAY BE FACING, OUR MAJOR TRAUMA UNIT ARE THERE TO GUIDE AND SUPPORT YOU EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.
