THE FUTURE QUALIFIED PATHWAY AT SETON

CAREER DEVELOPMENT The objective of the Future Qualified Pathway is to ensure our students are ‘Set for Life’ and the pathway aims to bridge the gap between the education system and the world beyond high school making sure our students can meet the needs of industry. The Future Qualified Pathway enables local industries to play an active role in the learning pathways assisting students in their transition from the College to the future workforce.

The Catholic Education Western Australia Vision for Learning aims to develop “active learners who understand the values, knowledge and skills important for learning in the 21st century and

beyond”. The Future Qualified pathway is designed to do exactly that. Seton Catholic College has developed numerous effective school–industry partnerships, Seton students will gain a far better understanding of how the courses they study in lower school will translate beyond Year 12 into the workplace, and what skills are required for their desired pathway.

The hands-on nature of the Future Qualified Pathway and the interactions with industry experts, will assist students to see the relevance of the subjects they study at the College as practical careers.

CAREER JOURNEY MAPPING Seton Catholic College students studying on the Future Qualified Pathway are exposed to numerous future work opportunities. As an example, the flowchart shows a flexible pathway, meaning that once students have graduated from Year 12, they can choose the next step that best suits their needs.

While some students may gain employment via an apprenticeship, potentially with one of the Future Qualified Industry Partners, or gain direct employment in one of the related industries, students are also encouraged to consider further study through a State Training Provider or University to advance their learning. No matter how a student might map their career journey, being on the Future Qualified Pathway while at Seton Catholic College provides students with many ways to a successful career.

PARTNERSHIPS EDUCATION & INDUSTRY COLLABORATION There are seven industry partners involved in developing and implementing the Future Qualified Pathway at Seton Catholic College: Civmec, BAE Systems, Defence West, Skill Hire, All Spec Engineering, Murdoch University and South Metropolitan TAFE (Technical and Further Education).

Murdoch University and South Metropolitan TAFE are the tertiary education partners involved in supporting pathways to post-school qualifications.

Collaboration between education and industry aligns student learning with skills that local employers need. In addition, students develop relationships with industry, which improves their employment prospects.

Aligned with the job growth in the local area, the Future Qualified pathway available at Seton Catholic College allows students to develop specific skills and knowledge that will equip them for a career in their chosen industry. All Future Qualified pathways also explore and develop all important ‘soft’ skills that enable students to adapt to an ever-changing work environment.
