“The good thing about our cattle... at any given time they have good forage. Once they go through a 15-acre field, we move them on to the next one,” said owner Del Ferguson.

The patriarch of the family, Del’s endearing charm, ever-present cowboy hat and Southern hospitality have made him the face of Hunter Cattle Co. Behind the scenes, everyone from his wife to his children and grandchildren work to provide each cow the very best life. “Because they’re not in feed lots... we don’t have to give them antibiotics to keep them healthy. They are all treated humanely, and the better we treat them the more we get in return.” And, what they get in return is a delicious cut of beef with a complex flavor profile and dazzling marbling that have earned Hunter Cattle Co. accolades from Flavor of Georgia as well as a passionate fan base of local restaurateurs. One of those restaurants is Nectar Farm Kitchen, built on the same dedication to local sourcing that led Ferguson to launch Hunter Cattle Co. 20 years ago. S aid Ferguson, “People want to eat locally-raised and produced food, and I think that’s borne out with the success of Nectar.”
