SHRRP: Roof Repair & Replacement
Mike Villalpando is an active 61-yearold who can still do many things for himself, but he is grateful for SHRRP and the services they provide.
“Over the years, they’ve weatherized my home and converted my hot water heater to electric,” he said. “They also replaced my windows. That was important because they did not open and would not allow us to escape if there was a fire.”
Mike’s roof was one of many in the community that was damaged in the massive story in July.
“Though they could not get to my roof right away, they did come out and make some repairs to make sure nothing got worse or leaked,” said Mike.
When SHRRP receives a roofing call, a technician inspects the roof for soft spots, leaks and damage. Shingles are also tested for asbestos.
“Many people don’t know that shingles are designed to pop up so you know when they are beginning to fail,” said Albert Vera, residential construction coordinator. “Once we assess the amount of damage, we put in a work request whether for repair or full roof replacement.”
Replacing a roof includes all shingles, underlayment, fascia and if needed, plywood sheeting.
“Because we do not need an architectural design or permit like we do for ramps or renovations, roofs are completed in just 1-5 days depending on the size and condition,” said Albert.
“Due to the big storm in July and supply chain issues, we have had a bit of a backup, but are working as fast as we can.”
Having repaired more severely damaged roofs in the community, SHRRP was able to replace Mike’s roof in January.
“Once the work started, it was very quick. Now I have a new roof that should last for years,” said Mike. “I recommend SHRRP for all seniors. Their service is excellent and it’s free. The guys are friendly and they do what you need.”
In addition to weatherizing homes, SHRRP provides a variety of other services to qualified community residents.
These can include complex renovations and retrofitting of interiors to meet health or safety need such as, but not limited to:
• Kitchen Cabinets
• Flooring
• Handicap Bathrooms
• Ramps
• Exterior Door Covers
• Roofing
SHRRP also provides services that seniors and those with adaptive and medical needs may find challenging such as changing air filters or programming thermostats.
Qualified individuals must be members of the community, age 55+ or qualify with medical disability, and have a home condition that detrimentally affects their health, welfare or safety.
If you think you or someone you know may qualify, call the SHRRP helpline Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm at 480.362.7800.
If you are an existing SHRRP client with an afterhours/weekend HVAC or plumbing emergency, you can call community dispatch to reach an on-call technician or plumber at 480.850.9230.
