Team Spotlight: Homecare Services
Senior Services has a caring team of professionals who provide three levels of in-home care to homebound community seniors and adults with adaptive needs. Our goal is to allow our clients to safely remain in their homes.
After an assessment, our home care assistants create a personalized service plan based on the unique needs of each client.
“We have a service plan that is tailored to the client, not only addressing what they need physically, but also what they are interested in, such as activities where they get out of the home and go to the movies, play bingo or participate in tailored exercise programs,” said Erin Manuel, HCA Manager. “But it is all about the client and their comfort level. Some are still nervous to come out post-pandemic, so we con - tinue to meet with them virtually and create crafts and activities that can be taken with our caregivers into the home to do with them. We want to make sure that there’s that interaction, that there is that companionship taking place.”
Home Care provides three levels of assistance:
Level I – Basic housekeeping, mopping, sweeping, laundry, companionship and nutrition.
Level II – Level I and personal care assistance with bathing, dressing and walking.
Level III – Light housekeeping and more extensive personal care assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, transferring and toileting.
“We want people to understandthat housekeeping is for the safety and wellbeing of those we serve and is often limited to where our clients spend most of their time, not the whole house—for example their room if they live with other family members,” said Erin. “This is because we want to empower family members to assist in the care of their loved one. We want our clients to be healthy and happy.”
In addition to providing home care assistance, HCA also provides Enhance Fitness, a fun fitness program for all community seniors 55+ and adults with adaptive needs, not just those served by HCA.
“It is vital to help our seniors and our clients to get moving to maintain and improve their balance, range of motion, strength and stamina,” said Erin. “We move at the pace of our clients and seniors. Even those in wheelchairs can participate. Anyone can participate and everyone does what they can.”
