PREPARING THE WORKFORCE FOR FLORIDA’S FUTURE AEROSPACE AND DEFENSE

YOUR LEARNING PARTNER FOR CAREER SUCCESS

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity estimates the number of openings for aerospace workers including engineers, technicians and mechanics will grow by 7-8% by 2032 and Deloitte’s 2025 Aerospace and Defense Industry Outlook1 identified “attracting and retaining a quality workforce as a primary business challenge.” To address this challenge, many aerospace and defense industry employers are targeting artificial intelligence, machine learning and generative AI to enhance talent strategies2 Construction management and skilled trades are also in demand to provide state-of-the-art facilities for future expansion.

Located between major airports and Florida’s Space Coast, Seminole State and its university partners are primed to fill this need, delivering high quality graduates from bachelor’s and associate degree and certificate programs.

DEGREES AND PROGRAMS THAT LEAD TO CAREERS

B.S. Engineering Technology prepares graduates with scientific and engineering knowledge including engineering graphics, computer programming, 3D solid modeling, applied thermodynamics and computer-aided design. Bachelor’s degree graduates have the technical and durable skills to become mechatronics, robotics and design engineering technologists, project managers, industrial, manufacturing, operations or maintenance managers.

B.S. Information Systems Technology (including programming and cybersecurity tracks) prepares graduates for jobs including software developers, analysts, administrators, IT managers, IT directors and consultants working with computer systems, databases, information security, client/server and network computing environments.

B.S. Construction prepares graduates for jobs as licensed contractors and construction managers. With real-world experience, graduates manage construction of public, residential, commercial and industrial structures from conception to completion.

Associate in Science (A.S.) Construction, Engineering Technology, Information Systems Technology, STEM and Industrial Technology Management prepares graduates for middle skills jobs in construction management; information technology; science, technology, engineering and math; electrical, industrial and mechanical engineering; and supervisory roles in industry.

A.A. Pathways: Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and other STEM pathways prepare graduates transferring to university or staying at Seminole State. As part of these pathways, students take college-level math, chemistry and physics plus engineering concepts and methods prior to pursuing their bachelor’s degree.

Certificates in artificial intelligence, automation, computer aided design, computer programming, construction trades, cyber security, engineering technology, information technology, mechatronics, networking, STEM/engineering all support roles in aerospace and defense.
